Saw this term mentioned on a thread recently.

Never heard of it before.

Have done a little online googling, could be helpful in relating to dd1.

Any thoughts on it?

Don't scare me about the look please! DS's eyes looked like those of a perfectly awake and cheeky 5 year old at 3 months old.

j20baby · 15/07/2007 00:44

is this the book www.hsperson.com/?

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 15/07/2007 00:45

author is Elaine N Aron, here

...people have often said that about her, pan.
Also she used to have sleep disturbances every night until very recently.

..talking of sleep....best go to bed

thanks to all for responses

Same author, title though is "Highly Sensitive Child". This was the first book, and the 'person' book came afterwards.

TnOgu · 15/07/2007 00:51

I shall try and track that book down.

I need to understand ds a lot more.

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 15/07/2007 00:51

I have posted a link to the book below (sold by Amazon). The other link that talks about Elaine Aron has a link to the questionaire you were talking about.

It happens DS is highly sensitive, and apparently... me too!

TnOgu · 15/07/2007 00:53

Yes, Isabel, I think it may help in understanding myself better too.

LordPan · 15/07/2007 00:58

as I recall, the parent/child connection was significant. Not seen the Adult book, so I could still be a massive pig, or, a HSA!!

TnOgu · 15/07/2007 01:00

lol

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 10:50

My dad has commented that dd always 'mothers' me.....also she tends to know when trouble is brewing between dh and i...and intervenes....

OP posts:
j20baby · 15/07/2007 10:59

my dd seems very sensitive atm, she has recurring panic attacks that i am going to die, have seen the gp about it and he is referring her to a clinic, but i think i will have to get this book too.

LordPan · 15/07/2007 11:09

this is a recent thread

and in there is a link to my first thead on MN from last year....from "Panman"(?)

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 11:23

j20baby....tis quite scary isn't it? my dd told her teacher that she 'wanted to die' when she was six....i was called in to talk to the teacher. I hope the book is helpful to you, will get it too.

Pan, thanks for links...it's difficult to know, when it's your fisrt child, how to nurture ...and not crush...iykwim?!

Always saw dd1 as being very 'whingey'
She visited her new school recently....and her teacher told me that dd couoldn't cope with the noise there.
DD has mentioned many, many times since that she won't be attending in september!

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 11:26

Gonna get a copy of the book...was concerned a first that i may be labelling her and creating problems, not so, methinks......if it helps to understand and nurture her then it is well worth it.

OP posts:
LordPan · 15/07/2007 11:31

yes...words to avoid, IME, are : condition, abnormal, something wrong, shy, etc.

her end of year school report, that I wished to share with jaberwocky, sort of vindicated all of the discussion around HSC on here.

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 12:25

phew!
have just read September 06 thread.
Thank you pan.

j20baby · 15/07/2007 12:46

TALcYo, yes it is a little scary, but tbh i feel quite relieved too, people have quite often remarked on dd being somewhat different and i always worried that she was a product of her enviroment and it reflected on me as her parent.

i too, am wary of labelling her, but to be honest, i sometimes feel at the end of my tether with her, and hopefully reading this book will help me understand her more.

i also took the questionnaire, and it says that i am HS as well, and there's me thinking i'm just weird

LordPan · 15/07/2007 12:54

T - just re-read it myself. Seems like yesterday!!

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 13:54

Weird? ..you and me both j20baby!

Your DD'S school teachers been helpful then Lordpan?
DD has excellent teacher at the moment....she is very aware of using gentle constructive criticism withh dd [dd takes all criticism to heart...for ages]

fryalot · 15/07/2007 14:26

had a read of this thread and the other one... did the test for dd2 and she scored 23!

I have a highly sensitive child. I have bought the book.

Thanks for this, talcy, I thought she was just shy, scared of everything and very, very fussy.

TaLcYo · 15/07/2007 14:35

squonk, it does seem to help you see the child from a different perspective, doesn't it.

OP posts:
fryalot · 15/07/2007 14:44

and also, when she goes to school, what she is has a name, so her teachers can look it up for themselves, instead of me saying "oh she won't like that..." or whatever.

j20baby · 15/07/2007 16:42

ooo squonk, i will allow you to lend me the book if you so wish
