Hello,

Im sorry I didnt know where to post this, I hope it can be moved if its in the wrong section :)

I really hope someone can help me with my question am grateful for any input :)

My 1yo had a mark on hes leg that looked like a cigarette burn we didn't know what it was or how it happened we put cream on it no one smokes etc so knew it wasnt a burn, it was at the back of hes leg, hes not near anything hot like fires or boiling water etc. After putting cream on it another one appeared on hes other leg and then a few more we took him to the docs and after being given creams they just didn't do anything it seemed like it got worse. We went back and was told its dermatitis and given a 2 week steroid cream and after that told to use normal creams for dry skin etc on him, the redness went down for 2 weeks but the marks kept appearing and spreading just less red. We carried on for 2 weeks and then used the other cream to keep it moist the redness came back and they kept spreading.
We went back to docs and mentioned we dont know if its ringworm so we was given clotrimazole cream which is an antifungal cream for things like ringworm, been using this now for about a week and half but nothing seems to be improving the marks look horrific and I feel like crying each time as I feel they must be painful or at least uncomfortable for him. We keep going back to the docs and the marks keep spreading no matter what we try, really hope someone can help

Discoid eczema?

sprouts21 · 10/04/2019 11:07

Uticaria pigmentosa?

ConceredM · 10/04/2019 11:29

It started off in little circles, so I assumed ringworm or an allergy to hes clothes, threw the clothes, ran the washing machine on hot with it empty.. bought new clothes, washed new clothes with new washing powder (different brand) lol didnt help

Just googling "discoid eczema" :)

Ok, looked up discoid eczema
Symptoms
Star The patches oozing a lot of fluid
Star a yellow crust developing over the patches
Star the skin around the patches becoming red, hot, swollen, and tender or painful
Starfeeling sick
Starchills
Starfeeling unwell

Theres no fluid, no yellow crust, doesnt appear to be painful, not sick or unwell.
Treatment also seems to be to use emollients, to prevent drying and if bad antibiotics. Hes had various creams since and it doesn't seem dry (no antibiotics yet)

I dont think its Urticaria pigmentosa

You have listed the side effects of it if it is infected:
Patches of discoid eczema can sometimes become infected. Signs of an infection can include (the sentence before the above list you gave)

Do you not have this under the dialogue box?

Ringworm or dermatitis or something else?
ConceredM · 10/04/2019 12:00

No I just have preview message and post message and the smilies and links thing :)

dementedpixie · 10/04/2019 12:01

I don't think it looks like ringworm as that normally has a clear bit of skin within the ring

ConceredM · 10/04/2019 12:05

Hes had lots of different types of dry skin creams now cos it started a few months ago and hes had quite a few visits to the docs as well with new creams, so any type of eczema wouldn't that be cleared up by now with one or all of those? None of hes skin seems dry and all this seems to just be on hes legs I think im going to faint if it appears anywhere else :( I just dont know what to do or try

OMG I think I know this!!!

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-rosea/

It starts with a herald mark. Have a look at the link!!

Often difficult to diagnose but totally harmless.

SummerHouse · 10/04/2019 12:11

Also clears up and no lasting effects.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/04/2019 12:12

Doesn't look like any ringworm I've seen before.

SummerHouse · 10/04/2019 12:12

The widespread rash picture on the link looks nothing like my son's rash. His was just like in your picture.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/04/2019 12:13

What do you put in his bath? Do you use anything like Johnson's?

ConceredM · 10/04/2019 12:15

Thank you SummerHouse, hes had it for a while now and hes been prescribed a few ezcema creams and a steroid cream it seems to just be getting worse though :( he doesnt seem to itch it but when hes legs are bare he does seem to point to them, if its allergy related we havent had any antihistamine creams.

OP posts:
ConceredM · 10/04/2019 12:19

We did use Johnsons baby bath so we stopped using that months ago we got something else which was supposed to be designed to be gentle and not have any perfume or anything else, we even changed the baby bath itself.

Summerhouse do you know how long it took for yours to get better please? As the original thing I think was over 2 months ago...

OP posts:
SummerHouse · 10/04/2019 12:26

I can't really remember. I would guess 6 weeks. But reading up it can last months. I remember that the herald mark was a very specific indicator but I would say my son's was bigger than a cigarette burn. More like an inch.

ConceredM · 10/04/2019 12:38

Hes was like a burn probably a cm or maybe a bit bigger in size looked like a burn had a ring around it and white in the middle that mark is still there couldn't take a picture of the original as he likes to wave hes legs around, we thought it was actually getting better then it just multiplied on the other leg and the rest of the first leg all below hes nappy...

He does sweat a lot but usually the top half not hes legs, he did get a rash on hes face and chin when he was getting hes front teeth and wouldnt stop dripping in drool, hes own drool gave him a rash/spots which cleared up once the drool stopped

My son had Skin Scalding syndrome which is a staphylococcus infection. Needed IV antibiotics. It looked like he had been flicked with boiling water or burnt with a cigarette.
He was fine but it can be serious
I would get to a doc ASAP
