What's the worst thing a random stranger has said about your DCs?

My DD 3 months is a small person weighed 5lb 4 at birth and steadfastly growing along 0.4th centile since. We have a lot of conversations with interfering old biddies on buses like this:

IOB: Ahh what a tiny baby how old is she?
me: 3 months
IOB: Gosh really she's very small
me Uh huh

but yesterday someone went one further

IOB: Did you smoke in your pregnancy?
me: speechless at the rudeness.

How I wish I had said not unless you count the crack!

Please would you control your daughter?

Was when for some reason she thought it would be funny to sit on a table with a friend for lunch instead of joining the rest of us at ours. DH allowed it so I couldn't gainsay. She then proceeded to take a large wooden spoon and poke the occupants of the next table with it.

Awful horrible unspeakable devil child.

babblington · 13/07/2007 22:17

not about dds, but dd2 has a large strawberry mark on her neck, and one particularly stupid neighbour continually implies that I did something during pregnancy to cause it. Ignorant stupid little man.

iamapieceofcheesecake · 13/07/2007 22:22

People ask me if my mum smoked when she was pregnant with me as I am only 4ft 11!
They also make comments about ds being 'so small' (He is 3 but still wears 12 to 18 month clothes)

Where you been?

mummytosteven · 13/07/2007 22:30

Waitress (after commenting it was a shame I brought him to the restaurant and couldn't palm him off on someone)

"How old is S?"

2 months

"He's very small, in my country a baby that age who was so small would still be in hospital" [!!!}

With S's speech problems, I suspect I am in for some more lovely comments...

electra · 13/07/2007 22:40

"She's the strangest child I've ever seen"...about dd1 who has ASD.

iamapieceofcheesecake · 13/07/2007 22:53

Hey PFNM!! I've been having my beautiful dd and getting over 3 infections from my c-section. (Have got one at the mo)
How are you, seems like it's been ages!

iamapieceofcheesecake · 13/07/2007 22:53

Ooh, my dp also commented that my mum must have bound my feet, as they are only a size 2. Gotta love im

MaPickleLovesDinosaurs · 13/07/2007 23:05

Npower sales man comes to the door.

"ooh what a lovely baby, how old is he?"

"6 months"

"6 months? Hasn't he got a small head"

Errr ..... needless to say I'm still with British Gas.

DS's head is beautifully in proportion with his body, the man was an arse.

MoosMa · 13/07/2007 23:07

When I brought both DDs to a HV clinic (DD2 a few weeks old, 17.5 month age gap between the 2) I said I was tired, the HV said "well I'm not surprised with such a small gap, it must have seemed like a good idea at the time!"

WTF??? I still think it is a good idea!

mylastrolo · 13/07/2007 23:09

i think it is a good idea to have them close together . it is tiring but so worth it in the end.

madamenoir · 13/07/2007 23:10

we were on the bus this week and 10 month DS was having a meltdown, kicking and pulling my hair. I was just holding him as I knew he was having real problems with some huge molars coming through and he was dog tired. Two old ladies got on and sat beside us (we were on the aisle facing seats) eventually one lent across and went really loudly "shhhhhhhhhhh" in his face. I was about to get off so only gave her a filthy look...whatever she was trying to achieve it didn't work...what makes some old ladies like this?

mylastrolo · 13/07/2007 23:12

will we start a book of things never to do as an old lady ? or a new thread perhaps.

Tommy · 13/07/2007 23:17

My DS is big (tall) but was quite a "bonny" baby and the bloke in the corner shop said "He's a big boy - he'll be a bully when he's older"

iamapieceofcheesecake · 13/07/2007 23:34

When my ds was first born and I was in hospital with him, my nans sister came to see us and the baby in the oppposite bed was crying, to which my nans sister did a very loud "ssshhhh". I was mortified!

Conversation between me and teaching assistant at my sons school, as I was trying to get DS2 (2) off the staircase, him clutching the bannister by eagle grip and loudly objecting to me tearing him away:

TA: That is little brother?
me: yes. He is the spirited one.
TA: you mean he is WORSE than your oldest? Oh my god what are we in for....

aloha · 13/07/2007 23:47

Boy or girl?
Girl!
She doesn't look like a girl.
