Baby boys clothes

We are expecting our twin boys in the summer and I recently started looking for cute little outfits.
Am I the only one thinking that baby boys clothes out there are so boring and so cliche? All stripes, blue, drawn on ties and bow ties and waistcoats Confused, brown. I love bright colours and I think it's fun for kids no matter their gender to enjoy fun colourful outfits (including nursery decor, bed sheets) and live in a bright coloured world. Also most boys clothes are like miniatures of grown ups clothes (which To be honest not even my DH would ever wear!!). Also I notice more and more all adverts for baby stuff have girls on them (from milk to slings to pretty much everything) really bizarre to only think baby girls are cute. Any good shops u recommend? Or tips to make this more of a pleasant experience? I am considering to make my own clothes for them!!

For your own sanity and babies comfort buy baby grows that button down the front and not outfits. DD had reflux and would go through 12 outfits on a average day, sometimes more.

HaveACupOfCoffee · 19/03/2019 08:30

I can’t get worked up about this. Clothes are clothes - what does it matter? Buy them from the ‘girls’ selection if it bothers you that much. It’s only the shops that have defined them as that - you don’t have to make your choices based on what they say.

abcriskringle · 19/03/2019 08:30

Yes I agree OP, boys' clothes are often boring and dull - I am sick to the back teeth of blue, grey and black! First of all, nothing to stop you buying in the girls' section - I bought lots of lovely brightly coloured vests and baby grows for DS that were supposedly for girls. Not one person mistook him for a girl (and I wouldn't have cared if they had) since they were mainly orange, yellow and white with animal patterns - not sure why that's 'girly'. Also, Next, Jojo's and Gap do some really nice colourful stuff for boys and I believe John Lewis does some good gender neutral stuff although I don't shop there personally. Keep an eye on supermarket stuff - often they are the worst for blue = boys, pink = girls but sometimes they do have better variety, especially Sainsbury's. Congratulations on the twins!

Agreed, so boring. M&S has a pretty good range - much more colourful and less dinosaur = boy, flower = girl

EgremontRusset · 19/03/2019 08:37

Little Bird (mothercare) and mini club (boots) are also good for colourful high street clothes. H&M too I think.

Wallsbangers · 19/03/2019 09:30

My boy was just in sleepsuits and rompers (when it was hot) to start with. Loads of those in cute colours and patterns. He's only worn "an outfit" about twice in his life so far, normally just in joggers or leggings with bright t-shirts or jumpers. We like next, M&S and Sainsbury's.

There's lots of Scandinavian brands that do unisex bright outfits, if you look on Babipur there's lots there

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 19/03/2019 09:34

Frugi, maxomorra, kite
Lots of shops have loads of colourful clothes, but I would agree, its harder to find the"boys" stuff

Waggily · 19/03/2019 09:41

Boots baby clothes are lovely and colourful. I’m having the same issue with my little girl, everything is pink! There are so many colours in the world and yet babies are expected just to wear pink or blue.

mrsk28 · 19/03/2019 09:48

I'm expecting a boy next month and have mostly gender neutral babygrows for him - white/cream/grey in small sizes. Hoping to reuse for future babies 😁 Next online is good for outfits and I've actually seen a few bits on amazon.com (not UK) that are nice and more unusual.

Just bought a couple cardigans from the girls section in M&S in teal and green! Really hard to get cardigans for boys that aren't really heavy.

niclw · 19/03/2019 10:42

I agree that a lot of places out there have really boring boys clothes. My friend recommended Matalan to me for boys clothes. I popped in for a look they other day and there are some really lively things in there. I've found some other likely stuff in places like JoJo but as it's so expensive I'm tying to avoid it. I agree with a PP though - definitely sleepsuits and lots of them. My 6 month old is usually in them at home day and night and only wears other things occasionally.

TillyTheTiger · 19/03/2019 10:57

Next, M&S and H&M have some stuff in other colours, if you have a bit more cash then frugi is good. DS lived in babygrows for the first 4 months as they were so much easier, I only used to put proper outfits on if we were visiting someone.

NuffSaidSam · 19/03/2019 11:20

'Or tips to make this more of a pleasant experience'

Stop thinking in terms of boys things and girls things. Just buy the clothes you like. Don't worry whether the label says girls or the catalogue shows a girl wearing it!

And moving forward buy shoes that are comfortable and practical. Buy toys that they like to play with. Take them to activities that they enjoy.

Don't limit them because they can only pick from the 'boys' list of clothes/toys/activities.

I agree with you there is little bird which has different things for boys eh rainbows on tops and joji mamma bebe. I find it very hard having a little boy and no bright colours or pretty design we have diansour l, cars and today I actually seen some boys clothes with cats on in Asda yes cats ..boys can love then to I thought and my ds adores cats 😃

sunshinebaby2018 · 19/03/2019 21:51

Thanks all Good suggestions there. We are planning to get the kids chose what they like and until then I am going to be all about patterns and birds and cats and whatever is out there. I was just shocked to see how gender based is kids fashion out there- and how the "cute girl that never grows up" and the "little boy that dresses like a grown up pop singer" stereotype is out there it was shocking! I am also dreading the presents coming - plus as we have twins I can imagine the amount of "buy one get one free" slogan nautical theme baby grows we will get - can I burn them all?!

I got all my baby grows from bond's they are gorgeous and really colourful and fun, super soft material. I stay in the UK so they are a little expensive as they are from Australia they have them in john Lewis and such shops but not a big selection
Deffo worth a look

wheresmarybloodypoppins · 19/03/2019 22:43

Frugi, maxomarra and duns! Bright and just gorgeous. Personal favourite is frugis new collection of tractors and rainbows.
Check our babipur as they stock all of the above plus other brand which are also just bright and funky

Wallsbangers · 19/03/2019 23:04

OP, when you're scrubbing yet another poo covered vest and doing your 56th wash of the week, you might find you're grateful for those gifted outfits! Grin

TheLastPharl · 20/03/2019 06:57

Haha @Wallsbangers

I agree with you through op. I have boy/girl twins and the gender stereotyping for both boys AND girls is shocking. The supermarkets are all frilly florals and pinks for girls and dark blue and grey for boys.

As others have said, just buy what appeals to you. The Scandinavian brands like Frugi, Maxamorra etc. do the most adorable stuff but it is a expensive. I buy most of my twins stuff second hand on EBay. I’m also currently addicted to leggings for Blade and Rose.

But honestly, don’t even think about outfits for them they are little. Mine lived in sleep suits for the first four months and even now are usually in tops and leggings for comfort. Outfits on my I have babies look really tacky anyway.

CongratulationsFlowers twins are so amazingSmile

TheLastPharl · 20/03/2019 06:58

Well that post made sense. You can tell I have a baby that wakes to feed every two hours at night can’t you?Grin

iamsuchatit · 20/03/2019 07:26

I actually preferred the boys stuff to the girls clothes!

Girls are treated like little dollies who must be dressed up and look pretty. Plus the slogans on girls stuff are pretty stupid as well.

I got DD a mix of boys and girls stuff, whatever was colourful. Would recommend H&M or Barnyard Kids

Sirzy · 20/03/2019 07:30

I have really never got this issue. Ds is 9 now and I have never had any issue finding a whole host of bright clothes in high street shops.

sunshinebaby2018 · 20/03/2019 07:34

Thanks all - keep ideas coming.

It's just unreal the gender based fashion for little ones still in 2019! I guess just start experiencing it all so wanted to share!

And yes babygrows is my best bet forever it looks like it! So far

H&M
Zara kids

are both amazing fun patterns and def buying what looks fun and jolly rather which section of the shop they come from.

Hope the quality lasts the 500 wash cycles per week GrinConfused

Super excited for the little ones!

I have a boy and girl and found boy outfits far nicer! Although probably spent more. Look at a lot of the scandi or independents. Lots of nice stuff. Instagram people to follow like susiejverrill

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 20/03/2019 07:36

Actually there is lovely stuff for baby boys, but just wait until he turns 1. From then on it's downhill into a morass of blue, grey and brown.

I believe the amount spent on boys clothes is much less than for girls clothes, but this is hardly surprising when there's so little worth buying.

ChipsAreLife · 20/03/2019 07:36

Another vote for bonds wondersuits. Best patterns and the zips are a life changer! John Lewis have some but online there is loads.

M&S also has great range.

I really struggled with my two as we didn't find out the sex and there is hardly anything neutral out there!
