hi everybody,
I am not sure if this is right category for my topic so I do apologose if it isn't. I have 5yo daughter who I bring to school by car. After that I go to work which is 3 miles away in the Business Park so I do need a car. Although the school has the allocated small parking, they keep gates closed and do nt allow people park on it due to the safety. Outside of the school are very narrow streets nd double yellow line everywhere. The school head teacher keep sending letters to parents not to park on the double yellow line in front of the school gates, but honestly I do not know what else to do. Once I alsmot got a ticket for leaving my car outsude the school area on double yellow. Only by luck the parking guy let me off. Any advice? I see that couple of parents have keys as I presume they have a blue badge, but they do walk and I did not see anyone having any mobility problems.

Drive 5 mins past the school towards work. Park. Walk to school. Walk back to car. Drive to work.

Why the need to mention about other people's disabilities , not all disabilities are visual

I’d go have a look around the area and scout out where there’s legal places to park e.g. no yellow lines. They might be a bit further from the school though.

Has the school got a breakfast club you could use?

Holidayshopping · 01/02/2019 17:06

Holidayshopping, I did until I almost got a ticket.

Are you saying you were parking illegally?! Clearly that would be stupid! Just park further away and walk. Or find a childminder or a breakfast club. You are not the only person with a child and a job!!

pikosan · 01/02/2019 17:08

I already said that I had no intention to offend anyone, so can we focus on constructive advice and not discussing horrible me not respecting rights of disabled people please?

Really? Thank you for such an observation, Holidayashopper. 😑

JumpOrBePushed, that's my plan got this weekend

Is there a breakfast club? Or you could pay for a childminder to take her to school so you can get to work on time.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 01/02/2019 17:13

I'd ask if this post was for real but sadly I see many entitled people such as yourself park outside the school gates with no regard for the hundreds of small children crossing the road or just walking on the pavement. Many a parent has mounted the kerb.
Here is a Biscuit to go with your self importance.
I hope you do get lots of parking tickets.

pikosan · 01/02/2019 17:14

Darkbaptism, yes I will consider that, thanks for the advice. Don't have breakfast club.

Go speak to the head and explain, see what they can suggest

pikosan · 01/02/2019 17:16

Stayawayfromitsmouth, i hope you will think next time before you say something stupid. I am here for some advice, which I get and very thankful. I don't care what you think so.. have a good day.

The time to sort this OP was before your child started at the school. Not after you have presumably spent weeks and weeks parking illegally and pissing off all the local residents.

Sirzy · 01/02/2019 17:18

This is a problem at schools up and down the country .... parents who believe that the school run makes them excempt from the laws of the road

jollygoose · 01/02/2019 17:19

Is there anyone with an empty driveway you could approach? Perhaps if you offered a small weekly payment you could use the drive for a short time morning and afternoon.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2019 17:22

KitKat1985, did not mean to offend anyone, no need to be defensive.

I think the word you were looking for was "sorry"

I park on nearby little street away from traffic, I dont block any driveways or busses.

Well, the double yellow lines are there for a reason so you are blocking something or causing a problem by parking there. They aren't there for fun.

Scout round the streets on Street View to get an indication of where you might park and, in the mean time, stop parking illegally.

NerrSnerr · 01/02/2019 17:24

Everyone who parks illegally outside schools up and down the county think they have a good reason whether it's because they work (unlike the rest of us of course), or poor little jimmy can't get rain on him, or they're too self important to think about the safety of others.

Parking illegally shouldn't be an option, you need to factor in parking further away and walking into your day.

3out · 01/02/2019 17:24

I think about 75% of parents will be in exactly the same boat as you.
Dropping at a childminder is a good idea, or arriving before the school opens so that you can drop off as soon as the doors are open and then sprint back to your car ten minutes away.
Or, car share with a neighbour (once you move) and take it in turns to be late for work.

pikosan · 01/02/2019 17:25

Ok guys thanks for advice, those who think I had to sort it before - all situations are different. Again, I needed some advice I got it.
Just a reminder to those who uses this forum as an opportunity to offend and pass some "clever comments". Be nice. People are different. You don't have to be a d*ck just because it's a forum and you can't be seen.

Stillmuddlingthrough · 01/02/2019 17:26

Do you realise that parking near school makes it dangerous for other children?? The double yellow are there for safety - if you can't drop your children off at school without compromising safety or the law then unfortunately your job isn't compatible and it is your responsibility to make changes to make it work - it isn't the schools responsibility.

JumpOrBePushed · 01/02/2019 17:28

Do any nurseries near you offer out of school care?

The nursery my DC used to go to did this for children at the local primary school, essentially like a breakfast club and after school club with drop offs and pick ups at the nursery.

Yabbers · 01/02/2019 17:32

So I would appreciate if people stop judging without knowing any facts really.
You park on yellow lines. They are there for a reason. Park further away, adjust your hours at work, find a childminder, the same as the rest of us do.

You don't have to be a dck just because it's a forum and you can't be seen.*

Equally, you don’t have to park like a d*ck just because you haven’t properly managed a situation.

EyesUnderARock · 01/02/2019 17:33

You were expecting sympathy for choosing to park illegally?
Ask other parents how they manage.
The school nearest to me has double yellow lines everywhere, it’s near a commuter rail station and the residents got fed up of CF parking from commuters and parents dropping off. It’s a response to a bad situation.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2019 17:38

You don't have to be a dck just because it's a forum and you can't be seen.*

Maybe take your own advice.

Also, you don't have to park like a dick just because you are a parent.
