What temp is your house? (worried too cold for baby!)

Interested to know what sort of temp you keep your house / living room?

My baby is 10 months now, so not little-little but our house is cold. Its rented so the front door is knackered and drafty and for some reason someone thought it was a good idea to have single glazed french doors in the living room. I'd say at the moment the temp in here is about 17degrees, its 19degrees in his bedroom.

I have the heating on for 3 hours a day, between 6.30-8am and then again 5.30-7pm and it gets a fair bit warmer then but inbetween I'm trying not to heat the whole house unless I need to, just worry about him being cold!

Heating is on 6-10am and 5-10pm with thermostat at 19ish. If I get cold during the day I will boost it

24 all year in the house at all times unless we are away

Babies are supposed to sleep in 16-20 degrees. Sounds perfect to me.

My heating is on full blast 24 hours at the minute. It's about 21 upstairs as I turn the radiators down up there and it's like the tropics downstairs

He’d let you know if he was cold! Put an extra layer on if he seems uncomfortable.

Oh and we keep ours at about 18/19 degrees. The occasional burst if someone is cold.

Mine is usually between 24-27.

I only have the heating on during the night though, it's just a warm house.

Same here with the French doors in the living room! I keep the heating on all day at 18 and have thermal curtains over the French doors. Keeps it just about warm.

God I would boil at 24-27! I don’t think that sounds too bad OP, can you ask landlord for money off rent in order to get a thick curtain made for the draughty door and general draft excluders? Just dress baby appropriately and he will be fine.

He will be fine. Our house is freezing. DDs room temperature often shows up at 9 degrees during the winter . I just checked and its currently 14 degrees.

Just make sure feet are covered with socks if you use a duvet (DD was a sleeping bag refuser at 9 months ). I put a little electric heater on in dds room just before bedtime for a short while to heat the room up while she is getting into PJs.

Slippers and layers are the secret.

Ours is always cold, about 9 degrees at the moment, we always wear hats and dressing gowns indoors in winter and you get used to a cold house, we have a big draughty Victorian house and rarely turn the heating on.

Our house is set at 20 all day. DS will only sleep if his room is a sauna so we have it on all night

I bought one of those gro egg thermometers for our baby..you will be surprised at what temp is ideal for a baby..I was always freezing, when the room was perfect temp according to the gro egg!

18c is ideally for a baby to sleep in usually with living rooms slightly warmer.

Sounds fine to me, our bedroom is about 14 degrees and she sleeps in a 3.5 tog sleeping bag.

As PP have said 16-20 is good for baby, you dont want to overheat them. We find DS sleeps best at 19 and he only has a vest and Pjs on (not even any blankets, he just kicks them off!)

9 degrees? Why don’t you turn your heating on? That sounds like torture to me!
I don’t ever turn my heating off, it is set to different temperatures for different times. 16 overnight, 21 for the evenings and mornings and 18 the rest of the time. I don’t think it has clicked on overnight yet as the house hasn’t cooled down that much overnight. I read that it was cheaper to keep your house constantly wArm rather than letting it cool down and then heating it up again. I don’t know if this is true though!

3WildOnes yeah I read that too which is why we have a constant 19 now (maybe up to 21 if I am feeling extra chilly)

I also heard that it is more economical to have heating at lower temperature all day.
Our thermostat is set to 19 degrees which I feel is peefect
If I am up and about round the house then a long sleeved top is fine. If I sit down then I just put a jumper on

Between 16-20C depending on the room and how recently the heat has been on. Between 16-18C is perfectly fine for babies.

Ours is set to 20degrees, sometimes 21. In the day the thermostat is in our living room then up to DS bedroom at night to ensure his room is kept warm.

Thermostat is at 18c, and all the windows open slightly for fresh air. DS sleeps best when his room is under 20c. In the day we keep a duvet on the sofa in case we feel a bit chilly. Too cold is safer than too hot for babies

That's definitely a healthy temp! IMO anything above 20.5 is hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you need the heating on a lot more than that with a baby, I leave my thermostat on 20 over night with my baby and I'm still cold! Temperate is going to drop dramatically over next couple of days as well
