4 month regression.... is it a guarantee???

Anyone avoid the 4 month regression? Is it a guarantee? I'd love to hear that some babies don't become nightmares at 4 months! I have quite a good night sleeper at the moment.....

My daughter is due to turn 5 months on the 16th of October.. I thought we had gotten away with the sleep regression but this week it started 😭😭😭 I'm devastated!!

Currently sat in bed feeding her after she just woke up.. Normally she would have slept through from 7/8pm till 4/5am for a quick feed and then slept again till about 8. But all this week she's been waking up regularly and even crying at times which isn't like her! She cries in the day but never usually at night.

I was telling myself maybe she was teething as I was convinced we'd escaped the sleep regression. But no 😭

Cosmoa · 05/10/2018 23:36

But to answer your question.. Apparently it isn't a guarantee. I asked the same thing a few weeks ago.

MysteriousQuinn · 06/10/2018 08:56

DD definitely went through the 4 month regression but we seem to have dodged it with DS. He is 6 months so no guarantee he won't have some sort of sleep regression at some point though.

It started at 14 weeks. She's now 5 months and still up every hour. its looking like it may run in with the 6 month regression 😴. I hope you're one of the lucky ones!

Karenoid · 06/10/2018 09:10

Mine is four and a half months now and have had two nights this week where he woke a couple of times. (Normally sleeps through 9ish to 7ish)Napping slightly shorter but back to normal last night. So I'm crossing everything hoping we've dodged it!

Fatted · 06/10/2018 09:16

I don't particularly remember either of mine turning into nightmare sleepers at 4 months. They both kind of settled into sleeping through around 3 months. That being said there was usually one night a week they would be restless, want fed in the night, wake up every half an hour for the dummy, be grumpy and teething etc.

CaptainCorrigan · 06/10/2018 09:24

Mines 5 months and still sleeping through despite everyone telling me about 'regression'. He's slept through since 8 weeks. I think people forget that with teething and development leaps etc they will have some restless nights. He has struggled with sleep in the day though, but he's teething. I think he had one or two restless nights at about 4 months but nothing like what people describe, although asbo had got used to sleeping through it was a bit of a shock!

Mumof1andacat · 06/10/2018 09:29

Nothing is guaranteed. My now 5 yr old has slept through the night since 6 weeks old. He has never had regressions or been effected by 'wonder week' leaps. Every baby is different. I did question why mine was not effect once.

LutherRalph1 · 06/10/2018 09:37

Ive dodged it with my DS so far ( 6 months) but you never know when their sleep can change

scottishma · 06/10/2018 09:43

I was lucky that my (nearly 6 months) DS o KT had a few nights of it- but it also coincided with immunisations so could have been a mixture!

Praising the sleep gods that he is a good wee snoozer! 🙌

MrsMcW · 06/10/2018 09:48

DS is 6 months and (touchwood) we seemed to have escaped it. His naps became pretty erratic but no additional night wakings. Might be coincidence but in my NCT group the breastfed babies all regressed whereas FF ones missed it... Not entirely surprising as formula keeps babies fuller for longer at night I suppose?

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 06/10/2018 10:10

It's definitely not a guarantee. However I would warn those that feel smug about dodging it, that the 8-10 month regression can be an utter killer!

Lazypuppy · 06/10/2018 10:28

Nope not guaranteed, my LO hasn't been through any sleep regression as of yet (9months)

Counter27 · 06/10/2018 10:38

My DD was a horrendous sleeper from day 1 until 4 months. She couldn't get any worse, there was nothing to regress to 😂 at exactly 4 months old (to the day) she started sleeping 10 hours at night and hasn't looked back since.

Although a lot of babies do have a 4 month regression it is by no means a guarantee and anything can happen clearly!

Littlelamb73 · 06/10/2018 20:30

Little man is 5.5 months and so far so good 👍

Narya · 06/10/2018 20:34

9 mo DS didn't have a regression at 4 months. Teething and colds disturb his sleep quite badly but that's it.

mistermagpie · 06/10/2018 20:49

No. I had one DS who was ruined by it, but another who wasn't affected at all. The one who was ruined is 18 months and has been a shit sleeper since the 4 month regression, the one who was fine is a brilliant sleeper and always has been (he's three). It's just luck I'm afraid.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 06/10/2018 20:52

Didn’t happen to DD. If anything her sleep got better. It’s a fact that their sleep patterns change at around 4 months, but in my experience it doesn’t automatically mean they’ll change for the worse.

BananaRumpus · 06/10/2018 20:57

No 4 month sleep regression for my little one. She's 2 now and always been a good sleeper x

Rainshowers · 06/10/2018 20:57

Neither of my DD’s has it. DD1 has always been a great sleeper (although I rarely admit it in public but now she’s 4 I feel I’m safe) and DD2 is 8 months, and so far so good!

Shixtyshixpershent · 06/10/2018 21:03

I nearly posted this very question when DD was 4 months. She’s now nearly 5 months and we’ve had a fortnight of awful sleep and now have two teeth cropping up as well. I’m beginning to wish I wasn’t so complacent about my lovely nights with just one quick wake up 😂

DrWhy · 06/10/2018 21:18

We were hit by it at about 18 weeks and he took well over a year to sleep more than 3 hours in a row again, at 2 he now sleeps about as well as he did at 3 months. I’m 7 months pregnant and really glad to read stories of people who escaped it!

Ontopofthesunset · 06/10/2018 21:21

My children are late teenagers now and it may reassure you to know that no one had invented the idea of sleep regressions when they were little. There was never any suggestion that they would have a 'regression' at 4 months. My older son was a terrible sleeper so frankly had nothing to regress to and my younger son was a fantastic sleeper and only jetlag from flying to the other side of the world disturbed his sleep. Of course babies do have periods when they don't sleep well because they're ill or excited or developing, but I promise you we weren't all noticing our babies' sleep deteriorating at 4 months.

Thatsnotmybookworm · 06/10/2018 21:24

It didn't effect DS at all; DD went from sleeping 10/11 hours to sleeping 9ish hours; that lasted till she got properly started on solids at 6 months; then she started sleeping 12/13 hours. They were both formula fed; is it more of a thing for breastfed babies?

Buffymum · 06/10/2018 21:30

Never heard of it till I joined mums net about 4 years ago ! My children mid teens but neither I or any of my friends with children same age had heard of it !!
