Have I really been selfish taking my son out alot during mat leave - should I have spent more time at home

My son is almost one. Hes a happy sociable little boy and will smile and wave at anyone he sees. He cant walk or stand by himself unaided yet but is cruising.

I have only a handful of days left before returning to work and someone has now landed me with a comment thats making me wonder if I have truely been selfish with how I have used our leave.

Admittedly me and DS have been out almost every day. 1 day is reserved for swimming, 1 for grandparents (cafe and a walk usually then food shop in the avo) another day for a baby group of we can make it (nap depending if not out somewhere). The other 2 days I have usually taken DS out for the day - may be a trip to a local wildlife park or just to a mall or coffee but quite often just shopping at supermarkets etc for his clothes (i admit there has been alot of coffee shops).

Someone has now said 'maybe DS would be walking if he wasnt strapped to a car seat or pushchair all day'. I am gutted and now regret not spending more time at home. We havent had a pj day since he was tiny.

Did I get this all wrong?

We are home today and playing and now I feel regret that we didnt do this more....

Sounds like you have had a great mat leave and really made the most of it. Your baby is a happy little chap by the sounds of it! My DS turned 1 this month and isn’t walking just yet, he’s standing unaided for a small amount of time but clearly every baby is different. We’ve definitely not been as busy as you either (had nearly a week of pj days cos I came down with a stinking bug recently)?so that persons comment was just silly

I'm super impressed. He would of objected if he wasn't happy. All babies are different.

I used to the mum at baby group with the baby in the corner miles away from all the mums chatting. I had and still have a non compliant one. He would not sit on my lap anywhere.

I didn't have any easy car journey anywhere until I was able to turn the car seat forward facing. My DS would only go in the pushchair for dog walks and then really that was because he want to sleep and would wake up as soon as we got home.

My DS stood unaided really early. He would crawl then stand up in the middle of the room and stand there for ages. A lot of people said if I walked him around holding his hands he would of been walking at 9/10 months. But I'm too lazy for that !!! And why rush. So I left him to it and he walked once he was ready just after 1.

Haven't RTFT but my DD19 shuffles around (very fast) on her knees until 18 months and nothing bad happened to her!
