Do they actually sleep solidly for 12h? Or do they rouse regularly but are able to settle themselves back to sleep again?

Currently mine is sleeping pretty solidly through the night. It's 12hrs between feeds about 10.5hrs of actual solid sleeping. Last couple of nights she has stirred enough to wake me up but not really awake. I only put her dummy in and she's away again. She's 3mths 2 wks.

DJS88 · 29/09/2018 23:09

I think it’s pretty solid - she doesn’t wake at all in the 4 hours she’s asleep before I go to bed, and doesn’t wake me in the night. However when she wakes in the morning she very quickly wakes me by chatting and kicking. DD is 5 months, she is a thumbsucker and if she is disturbed by a loud noise etc outside, thumb goes in and she’s quickly back off.

Wow! My DS is 2.5 and has never slept for 12 hours in his life, I thought that was a myth!

DD is 13mo and sleeps 13h and definitely wakes a few times. She used to need resettling around 9.30 or 11 and 5.30 and I usually hear a short cry or movement then still.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/09/2018 08:30

14months old tends to sleep 10hours, I can hear rustling while she moves in the cot but I think she’s moving in her sleep.

mintich · 30/09/2018 08:32

She'll move about her cot but doesn't fully wake up so she'll go back to sleep herself. She does use a dummy and is formula fed.....don't know if that makes a difference or not!

Faster · 30/09/2018 08:32

DS is 15mo and sleeps solid. He wiggles around and changes position, he sometimes bonks his head off the cot bars and doesn’t wake up. He’s still in my room so I’d hear him if he woke.

Faster · 30/09/2018 08:32

Oh and he goes to sleep at 6:30 and wakes at 6am on the nose.

Shazafied · 30/09/2018 08:33

She sleeps 7-6 with a 10pm dream feed. She sometimes grunts / rolls about for a minute then goes back to sleep herself.

She is 9m and we did controlled crying at 8m as her sleep was dreadful before that. CC took 2 nights and she has slept through since.

chloechloe · 30/09/2018 08:39

Nobody sleeps solidly through the night, not babies and not adults! From the age of 4 months or so we all wake briefly at the end of each sleep cycle although as adults we tend not to notice it. It’s a survival mechanism so we can check we’re still in a safe environment.

Some babies who are naturally good sleepers will get themselves back to sleep after some or all of these cycles whereas most will need help or reassurance before going back down again.

Mindchilder · 30/09/2018 08:51

My 12 month old has slept 6.30/7pm to 6.30/7am for the last couple of months. No idea how much she stirs as I don't watch her!
She definitely moves position though.

My 4 year old is also a solid sleeper and often falls out of bed without waking Grin

Earlywalker · 30/09/2018 08:59

DD slept 12 hours 7-7 from about 6 weeks old, still does over 4 years later Barr any awful illnesses.

Second born, not so angelic. We get a 2-3 hour sleep stretch at most Sad

SparkleBanana · 30/09/2018 09:07

Can’t remember with my first but my second is 4 months just now and sleeps through with the occasional stirring but not usually enough to wake me, I just know he’s a wriggler as he always ends up with no blankets on. He’ll start stirring around 6/7am but I put his dummy in a couple of times and he’ll go a bit longer so I can wake a bit. Then after his bottle will go back to sleep for an hour or two. If he has a bottle at 6pm he’ll usually go through the night. Any earlier he’ll need another before bed. Earliest I put him down is 8pm. My three year old sleeps through most nights to but is a big fidget and getting her to go to sleep is a nightmare.

myotherbagisgucci · 30/09/2018 10:21

My 9 month old DD sleeps from 7pm to 6am, I have a camera in her room and I see her occasionally waking up to grab her dummy, but then drops back off to sleep.

She's been in this routine since 3 months old. We've had the odd night where she's woken up, due to teething, having a cold etc.

bourbonbiccy · 30/09/2018 12:53

My DS is 13 months and I think 10hrs is his normal happy amount, yes he stirs but mostly he just needs me to pop in and give him his water, but sometimes he just needs to see me for reassurance. I don't get him out of his crib, it's funny sometimes I literally just walk in his room and he lays himself back down and nods back off.
Although he is getting his molars through at the moment so its a completely different kettle of fish at the moment 😭😭😭

BumpInTheOven · 30/09/2018 12:59

DD 14 weeks will normally go down around 9pm and will generally sleep through till 9am with the odd grunt and shuffle around 6 x

Lana1234 · 30/09/2018 13:00

DS 13m is sleeping through now 7-7.30ish but definitely needs resettling a couple of times a night. All I do is settle him in with his blankets snug again and he drifts off. He has caught a nasty cold off me though so the past few nights haven’t been the best 😩

Lazypuppy · 30/09/2018 14:34

Both. She sleeps 13hrs a night. 8 months old.

And the odd occassion she wakes she settles herself.

She is in her own room so i'll only hear her if she whinges a bit when she wakes up

Caterina99 · 30/09/2018 15:46

DD is 11m. Was never the best sleeper (nor the worst) but is sleeping through around 12 hours more nights than not this last few weeks.

Sometimes I hear her cry and then it stops after anything between a few seconds and a few minutes. I always give 5 minutes before I go in to allow her to resettle. On the video monitor I can see her rolling around looking for her toy bunny, because usually if she finds it she settles back down to sleep. She moves a lot as she’s constantly in a different position. I count it as sleeping through if I don’t have to go in to her

AniseRu · 16/10/2018 07:34

My baby started sleep through the night when he was 12 months and once he started he does pretty every night. The main thing was that he was hungry before and he slowly started drink less formula and eat more food. The main changing factor for me was that I give him semolina for a dinner around 7pm before bed so it keeps him full for all night. So from 7/8.30 pm to 6/7.30 am

IWouldLikeToKnow · 16/10/2018 07:38

Good lord, my almost 4 yr old has never slept for 12 hours...solidly or otherwise. The only times he has come close is when he is unwell.

Littlelamb73 · 16/10/2018 09:27

Ds 5 months, I think pretty solid but on a few occasions hubby has woke n up for work at 3am and accidentally woken him up briefly but he settles himself back to sleep

Dontbuymesocks · 16/10/2018 09:30

My DS is 20 months and he has slept a solid 12-13 hours since 12 weeks. We have to wake him up in the morning.
I’m not bragging - it’s nothing we’ve done, we are just super lucky!

sar302 · 16/10/2018 09:47

Our boy is 10 months old. Goes to bed at 7pm, and usually wakes around 6.30am when husband gets ready for work.

He is not fed during the night, and doesnt wake us at any point. But even if you don't hear them, all babies - in fact all humans! - wake during the night. Even if it's just for a minute.

My understanding is that when your baby can self settle, he does what you do - wakes up, rolls over, gets comfy, and goes back to sleep. Sometimes has a bit of a mutter to himself first. If baby can't self settle, he will likely wake every 45mins-2hrs (depending on sleep cycle) and require putting back to sleep.

ZsaZsaMc · 16/10/2018 09:55

OH MY GOD HOW ARE YOU / YOUR BABIES DOING THIS?
