Do they actually sleep solidly for 12h? Or do they rouse regularly but are able to settle themselves back to sleep again?

@zsazsamc

Mine doesn’t really nap in the day so I suppose that makes a big difference. Even at 7-8 months he was only having one 30 min nap per day max. He has quiet moments where he looks tired in the day and will sit and chill, but he’s too nosy to sleep!
I’m no expert but I think the amount of napping they do in the day is relevant.

Sleeping 12hours with the occasional waking and self settling (once a week or so).

My DD is 10 months now and sleeps 6.30-7pm-7-7.30am since she was 5,5 months. Every single night without fail, incl holiday, visiting grandparents, teething etc. she stirs while going from one cycle to another or changing positions/rolling over, i can see it on the baby phone but never actually wakes up. She was terrible the first 5 months, i was like a zombie, and then it all changed pretty much overnight as soon as she learned to roll over and started sleeping on her tummy.
My DS who is now almost 4 is very similar and has also always been an excellent sleeper, but he used to occasionally wake up needing a cuddle to settle him back.

Seems to be a bit of both- sometimes sleeps like a log and others lets out several cries during the night which I ignore

Holy moly, I have an almost 4 year old and a nearly 2.5 year old. Both of whom are awake at least once a night. I’m so jealous!

@Dontbuymesocks. I’m not sure your point about naps is true as sometimes naps help- I keep hearing the phrase sleep breeds sleep. My back usually has 2/3 hours nap and 11/12 hours sleep at night m

DD has been doing 12 hours since around 9 months, a handful of nights with illness and teething aside. She does sometimes scream out in the night, but settles herself back to sleep within a few seconds.

Eatmycheese · 17/10/2018 22:44

My first son is a sleeper.
His sister and his brother are not. At all.

I can’t read anymore of this thread I want to cry!!!!

rubyroot · 17/10/2018 23:15

@Eatmycheese- this is a skewed sample Cheese, fear not. I think most people who answer this will be those with babies sleep at night.

My baby slept awfully for first 7 months- at 8 months he started to sleep 12 hours (hes been doing it 6 weeks now) and it was most welcome as I was on my knees with sleep deprivation. I realise that at any moment this could change, I do not take it for granted. I feel your pain ad I hope it gets better for you

My little boy goes down at 7.30, he will wake between 10/11 but only for him dummy then usually sleeps through until 7 most nights. On the odd night he'll wake few times for his dummy or a bit of comfort but usually settles quite quickly! x
