How old did you keep your child in your room after birth?

Just wondering.

I am a mum to be. Baby is due in Feb and we are currently in a 2 bedroom house. Second bedroom is used as a spare room and my husband son sleeps there when he comes over EOW.

We are looking at moving and have found a 3 bed we like (we want three or four bedrooms) but our house is not sold yet so realistically we will probably still be in this house when baby is born.

How long is “normal” to keep baby with you as parent?

It’s not a big problem as it’s a big enough room that could have a bed and cot in it if needed although obviously not ideal../

TIA

It's advised to stay in the same room until 6 months old to help prevent SIDs. My 2 moved around 8 months

AliceRR · 21/09/2018 18:17

Thanks. I thought it would be at least 6 months

Till they were 3!

I evicted the younger one at about 16 months. I evicted the older one at 2, but she's like a bloody boomerang, keeps coming back 😂

BithieBunny · 21/09/2018 18:21

Ours is 3 and still in our room.Grin

Chocolateismyvice · 21/09/2018 18:24

He's still on our room at 19 months! I'm due with our second in the Spring. We keep saying we'll put DS in his own room but never do. Only have 2 bedrooms though and they're not huge, yet I can see us all crammed into our room next year Grin

Florries · 21/09/2018 18:24

Oh thank god, DS is 5 months and I am no way ready for him to sleep in his own room all alone! All of my mummy friends did it at bang on 6 months so I've been worrying about it and felt I should give it a go!! Will definitely leave it now!! Great post OP

Thanks all 😊

In our bed until she was 5 Smile

6 months. And we all slept better!

donkey86 · 21/09/2018 19:02

Only three weeks. I know it’s against guidelines but she was such a noisy sleeper I wasn’t getting any sleep at all, even with earplugs.

applecatchers36 · 21/09/2018 19:09

DC 1 was 1 year and DC 2 was 2 years

seven201 · 21/09/2018 19:19

6 months to the day

Cindersdonegood · 21/09/2018 19:23

DD1 18 months
DD2 2 years+
DS1 maybe 18 months? 2 years? I can't really remember.

They're only babies once and it doesn't last long. I wanted to spend as much time with them as possible/practical.

LaPufalina · 21/09/2018 19:24

Six months or just over but I slept on a mattress on the floor in her room for a month after that.

Furrycushion · 21/09/2018 19:32

3 weeks for DD, 0 nights for DSs (this was pre the 6 month advice). I just couldn't sleep with them in the room.

CrimsonFootstool · 21/09/2018 19:43

DC1 10 weeks. DC2 6 months because he was ill.

champagneplanet · 21/09/2018 20:19

Four months and Five months. A friend told me the best thing I could do was get them in a proper bedtime routine, and in their own room once they outgrew their Moses baskets. She wasn't wrong.

About 7 months first time round and about 18 months second time round.

anotherangel2 · 21/09/2018 20:25

20 months and it is just DD, DH and I in a 4 bed house. If needed we could have done it for longer.

Aria2015 · 21/09/2018 20:27

Just after 6 months. It was getting to the point that we were disturbing his slew if we got up to the loo etc... so it get like the right time. He didn't bat an eye at the change which surprised me but he slept better after he moved, although I was more anxious because I couldn't literally hear him breathing next to me but after he was a year I relaxed!

anotherangel2 · 21/09/2018 20:29

Florries our DD is 2 1/4 and we still regularly hop into bed with her when she wakes durring the night. From 6 to 20 months she was in bed with us. It is only in modern day western society that humans put their babies in a different room.

2233xylophone · 21/09/2018 20:33

6.5 months when grown out of the bedside crib as we couldn't fit the cot bed in our room. No other reason, really.
