Help with finding a nursery with a webcam

Hi everyone

I’m new here. I hope you are all well.

My daughter is one year a two months.

I’m looking for a nursery in West London with a webcam.

I’m petrified of leaving my daughter and I feel it will give me some reassurance.

Please let me know if you know any good nurseries with this.

Thank you :)

Hi! Just to say I doubt you will find one due to child safeguarding issues and GPDR. I wouldn't especially want other parents watching my child at nursery/ Our nursery has CCTV which you can request to look at and staff can look at if any incidents occur.

I left my son in nursery at 9 months and I cried but he was fine! Your Little girl will be too xx

KingLooieCatz · 19/09/2018 16:49

Came on to say the same, I doubt very much a nursery with a webcam exists. I'd be more worried, not less! Chill. Millions of children go to nursery.

IWantMyHatBack · 19/09/2018 16:51

You're never going to find one with a webcam, all sorts of reasons why.

Many have cameras in the rooms which are viewable from the office though

It doesn’t exist.

Asterado · 19/09/2018 16:56

I really hope there’s no such thing. The safeguarding issues this would present alone blows my mind!

DPotter · 19/09/2018 16:58

Nurseries are not allowed to have webcams, because it would be filming all children in the room, not just yours. Would you be re-assured that every other parent would be able to see your child ? Doubt it.

Have you tried to un-pick why you are petrified of leaving your DD? Understanding why could help you to find ways around the situation.

Finding a nursery you can trust can be time-consuming. You can get a list of local nurseries via your local authority. Ask other local parents for their recommendations. Give a few a call and ask to visit. Each locality is different - you may find there are waiting lists in operation or you may find others have space available as from Monday.

I think you need to try and deal with your anxiety as i doubt you are going to find what you want.

Lindah1 · 19/09/2018 17:07

My friends baby is at a nursery with a webcam so they do exist. They monitor who logs in so they can see if you're logging in when you shouldn't be ie your child isn't there.

DolorestheNewt · 19/09/2018 17:14

OP, I really think you need to create a new post asking for help with your anxiety over leaving your child in nursery. It will not help you to feed your anxiety by being able to look at a webcam. What exactly do you expect to be able to see? (Apart from everyone else's children as well as yours, which, as PPs have pointed out, is why this would be an unusual setup that most parents wouldn't want.)

More troublingly, this would possibly surround you with other parents who are all equally anxious - not only does that mean you are not meeting parents who can reassure you with the normal and essential process of letting go, but I can just imagine that every time a child falls over, the staff are effectively one down because a parent is on the phone wanting to know what the staff are doing about it.

michellejj · 19/09/2018 17:16

Of course it exists. Here's a company offering this. www.nurserycam.co.uk/

aperolspritzplease · 19/09/2018 17:16

It would breach every GDPR rule in the book. You need some help with your anxiety, or a nanny, who knows full well you are filming her.

SplatRat · 19/09/2018 17:17

Sorry, don't know of any in West London but there are plenty of nurseries with webcams that you can watch your child on. They are password protected so that only parents with children in the nursery can watch.

pumkinspicetime · 19/09/2018 17:18

They do seem to exist but they are not the norm, you may do better to focus on your anxiety in the long run.

DolorestheNewt · 19/09/2018 17:18

michellejj I think this is a company that sells webcams, isn't it, rather than a nursery that uses one? Maybe I'm misreading the ad.

michellejj · 19/09/2018 17:26

Yes, www.nurserycam.co.uk/ is a company selling this to nurseries, not a nursery chain.

catchyjem · 19/09/2018 17:28

Check out cybertots.co.uk . I think this is what you are looking for.

Elephantinacravat · 19/09/2018 17:30

How can any nursery have a webcam that broadcasts to parents? It would break every GDPR and safeguarding rule in the book surely?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 17:30

There may be we cams but surely that is a safety feature for the staff?

They won't let parents watch willy nilly - can you imaging 30 sets of parents ringing up the nursery to ask someone to put a jumper on little Mary, or demand why John had the jugsaw taken off him by William? Or why Jane didn't finish her yoghurt or why isn't anyone picking up that crying child?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 17:31

How long will she be in nursery? The best way to find one is through personal recommendations.

Elephantinacravat · 19/09/2018 17:32

To be honest, I would hate for us to go down a road of webcams in nurseries and schools, privacy rules or not.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 17:38

It's very easy to misread what you see on screen anyway.

My sister is a reached and was at an event where a small child was leaping over a bannister and running up a flight of stairs (and round and round). My sister went over to speak to him and got down on his level and to calm him down. She put her hands on his shoulders (he was the child of a good friend) and spoke quietly and slowly to him to get him to stop and listen.

This was caught on camera in the background of a shit and her daughter said to her 'mum, why were you throttling Jack?'.

BrieAndChilli · 19/09/2018 17:38

How would you know that parent x hasn’t given thier log in to Danny to watch, granny gives it to her friend to watch the adorable grandchild. Friend doesn’t know how to use it so gets nephew to help her. Nephew is on the sex offenders reginter!!

Also I doubt your employer is going to take too kindly to you spending your day watching your child on camera instead of working!! You might think you won’t but it will be addictive. I know if I could watch my kids at school I would always be peeking!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 17:38

Reached? Teacher (of 40 years!)

BrieAndChilli · 19/09/2018 17:38

Granny not Danny

AsAProfessionalFekko · 19/09/2018 17:39

Oh my autocorrect! You get the gist.
