Do you kiss your child on the lips?

I'm just wondering - do most parents kiss their child on the lips?

What are your thoughts on this? Opinion seems to be divided from what I see!

Ds didn't like being kissed from a young age. He offers the top of his head to me to kiss. He is 9.

BigBlueBubble · 10/09/2018 17:45

Yuck, lip kissing is sexual and totally inappropriate for a child. Kiss their cheeks or hands etc and leave their lips for boyfriends or girlfriends when they grow up.

Haireverywhere · 10/09/2018 17:51

No none of us do (siblings and their DC) but I come from a family with cold sores so never have as Mum always had a cold sore and was forever trying new potions on them!

I don't think there's anything wrong with it though.

Of course I do, why would I not?

FranticallyPeaceful · 10/09/2018 17:53

@BigBlueBubble lip kissing is sexual?? Wtf? Hmm

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 10/09/2018 17:53

Would like to clarify no tongues are ever used - def non sexual kisses only.
Only a weirdo would associate kissing a dc as having an alternative meaning.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/09/2018 17:54

I kiss my DM on the lips. She is 80.

GoodbyeSummer · 10/09/2018 17:54

The 7 y old comes to me to give me a kiss on the lips. It's their choice so I have no problems with it (unless they've just had something to eat and it's all over their face 😂)
The 6 y old doesn't like being kissed (apparently they're too sloppy 😂) so we just have a cuddle instead. Again, their choice and I respect that.

Oddcat · 10/09/2018 17:55

Kissing my child has never been sexual .

myotherbagisgucci · 10/09/2018 17:55

Yes I do, DH doesn't though.

feesh · 10/09/2018 17:55

It’s not sexual; the association with sex is cultural! My kids give me massive smackers on the lips and there’s not much I can do to stop them!

golddustwomen · 10/09/2018 17:57

Yes, kiss them both on the lips, 4 and 1. Love them! In fact I probably kiss them a ridiculous amount of times a day, but one day they'll be 'too cool' to kiss their mom so I'm making the most of it!!

Dommina · 10/09/2018 17:58

I give my mum a peck on the lips sometimes. I'm 26.

Bigblue, what's 'yucky' is making it a sexual thing. Its a peck not a snog.

golddustwomen · 10/09/2018 17:58

Also the comments saying kissing your child on the lips is sexual... get a fucking grip

Oddcat · 10/09/2018 18:00

golddustwomen it makes me wonder what the fuck goes on in some people's heads .

Rosyz · 10/09/2018 18:00

No. I just think it's weird. Really strange. I wonder if it is done outside the English speaking world, I'm French and here in France I've never seen anybody kiss a child on the lips. It would be seen as very weird I think. Just never happens. We kiss and hug our kids a lot, but no kissing on the mouth.

Cuppaqueen · 10/09/2018 18:02

Interesting thread. I don't kiss my 1 year old on the lips (love kissing his baby cheeks, forehead, curls though) - not that I necessarily judge anyone who does but I don't feel I want to. I don't stop him if he gives me a kiss on the lips although if I say 'give mama a kiss', I offer my cheek so he is probably used to that more.

PotteringAlong · 10/09/2018 18:03

Yes, all the time.

Sashkin · 10/09/2018 18:04

I have been trying to teach DS to kiss but without much success, he is 18mo and opens his mouth wide when I swoop in Grin I end up kissing his top lip, or thin air. So for that reason I usually kiss his cheeks, it works better.

I fully intend to swap to lips once he’s learned what to do, I still kiss my mum in the lips on occasion and she’s 70.

LemonysSnicket · 10/09/2018 18:04

I kiss my mum on the lips and I'm 23

Itsatravesty · 10/09/2018 18:07

No, he won't let me Sad. Hasn't from around aged 5. He hates kisses. I sometimes sneak a quick forehead kiss at bedtime which he promptly wipes off Hmm. Thankfully he loves cuddles and offers them freely.

Pinkyponkcustard · 10/09/2018 18:11

Of course! My toddler loves to give his mummy a kiss. He’s so adorable and it makes me all aflutter

BiggerBoat1 · 10/09/2018 18:13

No. I love kissing my children and hugging them and even as teenagers they're still very loving and cuddly. Would never occur to me to kiss them on the lips though and it wouldn't feel right.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2018 18:15

lip kissing is sexual and totally inappropriate for a child.

I assume you'll be reporting my post to MNHQ and the police then BigBlueBubble. Hmm

lizmum5 · 10/09/2018 18:36

Very affectionate with all 5 of mine eldest being 16, don't see problem
