on her terms

my friend who is 8 weeks pregnant has just told me that she will be a very good mother but completely on her terms!!!
she,s 36 has never had any interest babies or children.has always been career/money driven person who partieshard at weekends.
the thought of breast feeding makes her feel ill,as does being handed a baby that hasn't been thoroughly washed.
her baby will just have to learn to fit intoher life!!
i don,t even understand why she got pregnant she has only been with her partner a few months.
i see trouble ahead!!!

She'll understand what you were smiling about in 12 months time.

goingfor3 · 07/06/2007 17:36

pmsl , yeah right !

CorrieDale · 07/06/2007 17:56

oh poor woman, she is in for a major shock. Or then again, she may do a complete volte face once the baby is born, and turn into Earth Mother Extraordinaire.

macdoodle · 07/06/2007 18:01

Am ashamed to say I was similar and thought my life would continue and baby would just fit in - 2 weeks off work 6 months on prozac and I realised how very wrong I was - my life isvery different now and I wouldn't have it any other way

macdoodle · 07/06/2007 18:02

oh just to add my DD is nearly 6 am 11 weeks pregnant with DC2 and seperated from DH after year from hell - still would do exactly the same for my DD (my best and only worthwhile achievement)

LIZS · 07/06/2007 18:03

will you post an update in 8 months time please !!!

BrothelSprouts · 07/06/2007 18:05

Ah bless her.
Hope she's got a pair of night vision rose-tinted glasses for the night feeds!

Oblomov · 07/06/2007 18:09

She's in for a shock

NineUnlikelyTales · 07/06/2007 18:11

Or the baby is I do know a couple who have more or less managed this. They must be so proud.

kitbit · 07/06/2007 18:23

does she actually want a baby or would she rather have a new handbag??? rofl!!

YeahBut · 07/06/2007 18:33

Ha, haha, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah
Give her 3 months after the baby arrives and she'll be in her trackie pants with her unwashed hair scraped back into the distressed mum ponytail. Bless...

lillypie · 07/06/2007 18:38

we have been friends for 20 years and i love her dearly but she is the most selfish opinionated person i know!
earlier i was trying to talk to her about the benefits of that first breast feed even if you really don't want to carry on,so also how skin to skin contact helps you to bond with you baby and she told me i was talking utter rubbish

OP posts:
lillypie · 07/06/2007 18:41

Yeahbut you've just described exactly how i look

Twiglett · 07/06/2007 18:44

oh how sweet

FrannyandZooey · 07/06/2007 18:46

Maybe she will do things as she says she will, I know people who have done this

Pixiefish · 07/06/2007 18:46

My fried was very much like that and she has stuck to it. She loves her baby yes but her parenting is very much on her terms. She didn't even consider breastfeeding.

I bite my tongue all the time and respect her right to parent in her way as I expect the same from her. (Although I'm pg with #2 and she feels that it would be better if I bottlefed as it's easier and you know exactly how much the baby is getting- grrrrrr I bite my tongue I just wish she would extend me the same courtesy sometimes lol)

Pixiefish · 07/06/2007 18:47

friend not fried -dur

Twiglett · 07/06/2007 18:52

maybe you should introduce her to xenia

lillypie · 07/06/2007 18:58

i'm watching the whole thing unfold with great interest.she has already caused a huge fuss whilst registering for anti-natal care (at my lovely health centre)because the receptionist
wasn't attentive enough to her

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 07/06/2007 19:04

You never know - she may channel all that fussiness and drive into the baby an become the most over protective dedicated mother you know! stranger things have happened...

lillypie · 07/06/2007 19:07

yes,but not in this world

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 07/06/2007 22:05

Twig- maybe I should

She's a copper and can be very opinionated and thinks she's ALWAYS right
