How old was your baby when you had a night out?

DD is 10 days old so I'm not looking to leave her just yet but it's my 30th birthday and DH's charity gig at the end of November when she'd be three months old and I'm considering getting a babysitter so DH and I can attend both events (a week apart) baby free. 30th birthday wouldn't be anything special - meal and cocktails and would be happy to do it with DD too but DH's gig is in a pub and his band are on at 10pm so would need a babysitter 9-12 for that one.

Right now I can't imagine wanting to leave her side but I know I'll regret not attending his gig as he's practiced so hard for it (a last hurrah with his old band pre-DC's in aid of a friends fundraiser) and it'll be the last time he plays a real gig maybe ever. Plus it's sufficiently far enough in the future to think about it without panicking.

How old were your DC's when you left them? Was it fine?

When DD was 6 weeks old I went out for dinner and a few drinks for my birthday. I was still ebf and DD was absolutely fine as was I.

WooYa · 30/08/2018 19:45

Left him for about 2hrs when he was six weeks old with SIL and left him with DH last Friday for a night out at 5months. I was a really anxious but he was fine and I needed to spend time out of the house Grin

Lazypuppy · 30/08/2018 20:36

I left LO with her dad when she was 2 weeks old so ibcould get my hair done. We both left her when she was about 5 weeks old for a dinner/movie date night.at least 3x a month she has days with other people whrn we have things planned or a date night.

My advice is start doing it young for your own sanity! Its important you and you DH have time to be a couple without baby, even if its only for a few hours

I’ve got a 3 month old. I left her with her dad (my dh) for the off half an hour early on- supermarket trips etc. Then when she was 10 weeks old we left her with dsis for a concert that we’d bought tickets for, before I was pregnant.
I went back to work yesterday so she was left with my mum all day.
I love her to absolute bits and I miss her when I’m not with her but I’m happy to leave her with my loved ones.

Tortycat · 30/08/2018 20:42

Dc are 4 and 2 and still never left them with a babysitter! Have left them with family for an evening or two but not a stranger. i think 2 year old would be really upset if he woke up and me or dh wasnt there. appeciate we're at one end of the scale though.

At 3 months i would have thought she'd still be waking frequently so guessing it depends how she is fed and whether she knows who's looking after her. My db and sil left their 5 month old with grandparents for a few days while they went away snd he seemed fine.

Fruitteatime · 30/08/2018 20:44

18 months, partly because that was when the first occasion arose and partly because we were breastfeeding and she didn't take bottles.

Tortycat · 30/08/2018 20:45

Sorry misread- i left dc1 with dh for an afternoon spa day with friends when he was 8 weeks and it was fine. But he would take a bottle. Dc2 wouldnt take a bottle so much longer with him (cant even remember!).

GinIsIn · 30/08/2018 20:45

DS is 18 months. We only leave him with my mother. We’ve left him with her overnight before, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving him with a babysitter.

fromroses · 30/08/2018 21:06

The only family we have is my sister who's too nervous around babies to ever truly be comfortable, even for 3-4 hours. We have friends who are happy to babysit for those few hours at home. She's breastfed so would have expressed bottles but DH has introduced them already so there'll be no nipple confusion by then.

I think it's the fact that it's not my sister that will bother me most. I'm fine leaving her with DH if I have to pop somewhere or sleep but anyone else is iffy at the moment and since DSis won't be up for it at 3 months, the thought of leaving her with a stranger to her (not to me) seems nuts!

My baby is 8 weeks and I left her properly for the first time last weekend for a hen do.

I left early but it was about 6 hours I was gone for. I took my breast pump with me because I knew I would get sore not feeding her for that long... the batteries ran out! Oh my gosh my boobs got huge, so painful I came home early and got her to feed ASAP! Don’t underestimate how much it will hurt if you don’t breastfeed for a few hours!

Tbh I didn’t really have a good time, I was quite panicky but I’m glad I’ve left her once. Don’t think I will again for a while though Smile

Mine slept at my mums for a night at 4 months, but had seen her pretty much every day since she was norn so was definitely comfortable with her and at her house. No problem at all. They are all different though!

Pondering1 · 30/08/2018 22:03

My DS was born the 9th Dec and our 1st wedding anniversary was just after Xmas. My MIL came round and watched him for a few hours so we could go out for a meal. Then when is 4 months old we had a night away for gig tickets I bought before he was born thinking it would be fine. I absolutely dreaded it beforehand but we had a lovely time and think it was good for us to have some alone time to reconnect, especially as newly weds! I was breastfeeding too and just expressed while away.
I felt so much better both times by getting lots of photos and updates - not to check up but just for my benefit and made me feel so much more relaxed seeing he was fine. Do this and try to enjoy yourself!

Sleeplikeasloth · 31/08/2018 17:49

Baby went out with her dad at maybe 5 days ish, and I went out for the evening at about 3 weeks. Stayed out overnight at 3 months, but have only left her together once overnight so far at 1 year. Bottle feeding though.

QueenOfMyWorld · 31/08/2018 17:55

8 weeks old

BlueJava · 31/08/2018 17:57

I left my 5 week old twins with my DH for 3 nights and 4 days when I attended a residential course. Such a relief to get a good night's sleep and be back to academic studies!

Dt were 2. Went out fir my birthday, came home at 10 and mil hadnt put them to bed yet so spent another hour doing that😑

Theresnodisneyending · 31/08/2018 18:01

Mine was 2 and a half years old.

Theresnodisneyending · 31/08/2018 18:02

@fromroses, don't worry about going out for an evening to support DH.

Iwantaunicorn · 31/08/2018 23:12

Left my babies for a night when they were 6 weeks old, and for a weekend when they were 15 weeks old.

Eledamorena · 01/09/2018 16:04

Different circumstances but I got a terrible D&V bug when DC2 was a couple of weeks old... called my mum by 9am after being ill all night (DH left for work at 6:30) and she came round for the day, I spent the whole day between bed and bathroom. My sister came round after work and sent DC1 (aged 2.5) to my mum's for the night and took the baby home with her. I would have cried with relief if I hadn't been so lacking in fluids by then I probably couldn't have produced tears if I'd tried!! Grin

The baby was bottle fed though so obviously much easier to leave. I remember thinking afterwards, what on earth would I have done if he'd been breastfed? Would he have starved?!!

In normal circumstances though I am pretty laidback about this. Moved abroad when DC1 was less than 3 months old so no network at all and left her with a colleague's niece pretty soon after arrival. Would have left her with family or good friends pretty much from birth if I had the opportunity and inclination to go out. But each to their own... I have friends who wouldn't leave their children with anyone except grandparents until the children were old enough to talk properly and therefore communicate if they weren't happy or had any problems.

fromroses · 01/09/2018 16:46

I'm hoping I'll have the inclination to go out come November. Right now I don't want to leave her side and hate other people touching her/trying to hold her apart from DC's and DH 😂

You'll be fine OP! By November you may well be itching to go out!!!
