Freezer containers for toddlers?

Hi, anybody know of any good toddler size portion food containers suitable for freezing? Or just ordinary ramekins? I want to make ds mini cottage pies, fish pies and that sort of thing.

I just bought some little tubs from Wilkos when I had DC1, pretty sure they were BPA free as I had a thing about it at the time.

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 07:54

Thanks jilted I got some little pots from there when ds was younger along with the oz baby ice cube trays from another shop but i’m looking for a bigger ramekin size (like the size of Morrison’s fresh toddler meal selection). I was hoping for at least 6bI can batch cook a few/

Just give him whatever you’re having? It will make life easier for yourself than freezing tiny portions of stuff!

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 07:58

Pottering thanks we do give ds what ever we’re having most of the time. I just want to freeze some extra of some things to give him afew lunches and stuff as sometimes he gets two ‘dinner’ type meals a day. There are also times when I can’t give him what I’m having.

Thanks Kat I’ll check those out Smile

I have these, which despite the name are still going strong for DC2.

They do a smaller size which I found handy for bolognaise/ratatouille portions where I wanted to make the pasta/Cous Cous fresh.

stormymcstormface · 03/08/2018 08:06

I always find it amazing that people feel need to interject with “just give him what you’re having” - do you really eat all- every single one- of your main meals at the same time as your toddler? Never have someone babysit who might want to focus on the toddler rather than preparing a meal? Never want, yourself, to focus on the children rather than preparing a meal?

When people ask for hints and tips to save time it seems people are quite happy to suggest batch cooking- why does suggesting that you might want to batch cook cause such condescending comments in this situation?

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:19

Thanks stormy. I’ve always had extra in freezer for ds because as well as all the reasons you mentioned it means that he gets something substantial when I’m just having a ‘quick’ tea or he can’t eat with me for various reasons. I like to see him get a decent dinner and I find having some portions on hand on freezer helps me do that. Mind you it’s probably my fault I am a bit OCD (people who know me politely say I like to be organised.)

Pass the ones we have are ramekin size but they could have stopped making them, I was a long time ago that we bought them Smile

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:22

Thanks marmite they look handy for pasta sauces and like you say bolognaise etc and they look like a nice portion size.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/08/2018 08:22

Pass there’s no need to justify why you want to do this either, it’s totally normal!

WooYa · 03/08/2018 08:23

They've got the Nuby tubs in B&Ms if that's easier for you. And Tesco have a baby event on... maybe there's something in there?

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:24

Thanks jilted yeah the ramekin size is perfect for how much ds would eat, I can’t seem to find a set of 4-6 of them preferably with lids (but I can just cling/foil the tops). The ones individually I’ve seen are quite expensive and I’m not sure whether suitable for freezing and reheating.

Cheers WooYa I’ll check Tesco out and a good excuse to go have a look in the baby event.

We got some great ones from Matalan. They're so useful I've just bought another set. I do portions of sauce, cottage pies etc in them for DS 3 & use them for DD, 9 months, to put small portions of our dinner in to have the next day. Aldi & Lidl usually have some pots in the aisles of tat, the range & B&M are also quite good.

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:30

Thanks I’ll have a look in Matalan, love looking in there as well. Looks like a shopping trip is in order.

Thanks for all your help everybody, I knew MN would have the answer.

You will just HAVE to buy some of these and eat the puds to reuse the ramekins Grin www.gupuds.com/

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:36

Haha I think the chocolate ones have the strongest pots as well Wink

We do eat pretty much every meal with our children (except when DS has lunch st school, obv). We don’t have anyone who can babysit in the evenings so no, we don’t go out.

(But also understand the need for toddler sized freezer containers).

Ylvamoon · 03/08/2018 08:42

I got some 250ml tubs from the pound shop. They are great, BPS free, freeze well and suitable for dishwasher ... you get 3 in a pack.

PasstheStarmix · 03/08/2018 08:47

Sound great Ylvamoon and I like the price too, I shall be taking a look that we thanks
