I want to buy my little girl a toy kitchen for her second birthday as she loves playing at cooking. Does anyone have one they recommend please?

Ikea one.

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 01/08/2018 22:14

Definitely a sturdy one. We have a wooden little tikes one that is still as good as new 9 years later. Plastic ones tip over easily onto little ones.

Katescurios · 01/08/2018 22:15

Ikea here too. 2 years on and it still looks new.

IKEA

Our IKEA one is played with daily by my 2, 6 and 8 year olds and all visiting children and it copes really well. The extendable height means they can enjoy it even when they're taller too.

Ikea duktig
Height adjustable, solid, light up hob .. and sells on really well when you inevitably want rid.

Google Ikea duktig hacks too. Can put your own mark on it!

We got ours 6 yrs ago from John Lewis and still going strong. Wooden one, £100, still stocked now. Really plain and classic looking, would recommend (although the Ikea one is great too!).

IKEA

Ikea definitely.

We got it because DD2 (6 almost 7 at the time) asked for a play kitchen for Christmas. All the other toy kitchens looked really small and I was worried that she wouldn’t get any use out of a toy kitchen. The Ikea one is height adjustable and it’s fine for DD on the tallest setting (although she’s not a particularly tall 7 year old).

It looks lovely and looks really realistic. It’s a reasonable price too and the things you can buy to go with it are really affordable and they’re so cute!

Also, if you are creative or a dab hand with a paint brush you can revamp them. There are loads of ideas on Pinterest. Some are amazing!

Cutesbabasmummy · 02/08/2018 10:43

Ikea - you can pick them up second hand too. Ours gets a lot of love.

Notevilstepmother · 02/08/2018 10:50

The Ikea ones are lovely.

The pots and things are good too, I use the children’s wooden spoons fish slices etc for real when camping!

UndergroundSun · 02/08/2018 10:54

Another vote for IKEA, ours is 5 years old and good as new.

Notevilstepmother · 02/08/2018 10:54

Oh this looks nice too, anyone tried it?

I bought smoby kettle and toaster for friends child, they do quite a few small appliances that are quite lifelike.

Thanks for all these ideas. I hadn't even thought about wood v plastic. Can't believe how expensive these toys can be!

Not a kitchen but an accessory, the Melissa and Doug felt sandwich set is brilliant

We have the Kidkraft Culinary Kitchen in Espresso, but I can’t find one at a decent price right now. Kidkraft have lots of choice though.

We got it for about £80 from Costco online. The instructions were simple to follow and the hardware was all labelled, which made it easy to build late Christmas Eve! It’s sturdy and we are really pleased with it.

Dalesgirl16 · 02/08/2018 19:33

Thanks. I've just looked up that Kidcraft kitchen and you got it at a hell of a cheap price from Costco!

Ikea if you're buying new.

If you see anything alternative going cheap/free second hand though - grab it as the kids really don't give a shit as long as it's got cupboards, a sink you can shove everything in and some form of "hob" to put a pan on.

Lidl at the moment have nice wooden playfood sets in (they come in and out of Lidl and Aldi periodically) or Wilko used to do some lovely ones as well.

And buy lots of wooden spoons (just get them from Wilko or wherever) - because friends/cousins/siblings will come over and there will NEVER be enough wooden spoons for people to all do the pot stirring thing.

We have an Ikea one upstairs in the house (works well if you're short on space that one) and a Little Tikes one in the playhouse outside.

Asda did a really lovely wooden one last year. Very sturdy and attractive too

Dalesgirl16 · 03/08/2018 07:47

I like the IKEA one because it's height is adjustable but I really like this one too.
