What are you doing with your babies during the day in this heat?

33C at home today and I admit I am inside with my 9mo as it feels like we would bake otherwise....but I feel stupid as its so lovely!

Are you all venturing out still?

As early as possible I venture out but once it’s really hot, we stay inside curtains are closed and every window open. I do get the wasting a beautiful day feeling but an over hot, stressed baby isn’t my idea of Fun.
Our local soft play is quite air coned so that’s a good option for us, driving there with the windows down

Jellybabie3 · 23/07/2018 16:08

Hmm I havent taken DS to soft play yet maybe I could do that.

DS is sweating indoors so i think trips will be early morning or not at all too. Today we made it to aldi!

We've hidden away at home today, I have a load of errands to run tomorrow and no choice but to take (8month) DS. I'm dreading it! He seems to be coping ok though

I don't take my 2.5 year old on day trips outside, not in this weather. It's too hot for him. If we do go out we go to air conditioned places. Soft play, swimming etc.

Your house will be cooler if you keep your windows closed during the hottest part of the day, then open them at night when it gets cooler.

spugzbunny · 23/07/2018 16:34

I'm going to try baby cinema purely for the aircon!

I try to go out every day but by the afternoon it's indoor time! Sometimes if there's a good breeze I'll take her to a park with a lot of shade and trees.

Timeforanothernewone · 23/07/2018 16:36

Just chilling at home. It seems silly to go out in this weather

enbh · 23/07/2018 16:41

Me and DD (4 months) are sitting in the house, every door and window open and it's still 27 degrees! It would be far too hot to venture out. She seems to be a bit grumpy but I'm not sure if it's the heat, her teeth or a combination of both!

Smurfybubbles · 23/07/2018 16:50

Stuck indoors for the last few weeks with 11 week old DS. Been way too hot to venture out most days. Starting to get cabin fever and longing for cooler days when we can go out and about again! 33 degrees in Cambridge today currently 31 degrees in the house Confused

El1995 · 23/07/2018 18:22

My ds (3 months) is just out and about with me, shaded in his pram, just a nappy on and a cool flannel over his tummy! Taken lots of trips to the swimming pool this week 😁

Jellybabie3 · 23/07/2018 19:13

@spugzbunny i went to baby cinema when DS was 5mo. It waals great!! Albeit i had 2 poo's to interupt the movie but then feed, cuddle and sleep! Couldnt do it now DS is 9.5mo. He has serious ants in his pants!!

Soft play may be an option tomorrow thanks

I had my kids while we lived in Australia, and they were both summer babies. It was winter back in the UK that had me stumped 😂

Yes, close the windows and curtains during the day. Air the house at night while it's cooler.

Go out early. I used to hit the park at 8am when it was really hot.

Cinema...harder with an older baby, but brilliant with tiny babies. Watch film, feed baby, drink coffee 😀

Swimming, shopping malls, museums, galleries, garden centres...basically most places have air con, and most places are interesting to babies. Lots run activities too...who cares if it's you doing the museum quiz, it's always something to talk about!

Lots for inside things too. Freeze random toys in water then they can play as it melts. Painting. Foam. A load of cooked spaghetti kept mine busy for ages once, although I'm sure some will criticise the waste of food. Indoor obstacle course/assault course - just loads of pillows, cushions to roll about on.

Jellybabie3 · 23/07/2018 22:15

@Scotinoz Thanks!

I've not been venturing out much for weeks with my 12 week old, it's just too hot for him, and I learnt quickly a hot screaming baby wasn't worth it, though I do feel like I'm wasting the summer I always wish for. Here I was thinking how lovely a may baby was for going for walks and getting out. Sod's law

delphguelph · 25/07/2018 13:05

I go out to the park etc early in the morning. Home at 11 for lunch and nap. Back out again after 4pm.

delphguelph · 25/07/2018 13:05

Shopping malls are fab too.

delphguelph · 25/07/2018 13:06

Lots of water and water based food for baby too: watermelon and cucumber.

Jellybabie3 · 25/07/2018 13:29

We tried soft play for the first time yesterday which was nice with the air con but I'm not sure made a huge diff to staying home. Weather looks like it's going to crank back up again so we are off to tesco tomorrow morning (yay!) Then camping out until it gets cooler at the weekend. Going to attempt to make DS some tunnels etc to keep him occupied. Not much else I can do!

We go for walks in the woods. It’s a couple of degrees cooler than elsewhere. Unfortunately you need a car to get to the buggy friendly woods near me so when it’s hot tomorrow we’ll prob play inside. I have a massive shiny cake tin that I half fill with water and put bath toys in. My almost 7 month old is very splashy, so he gets nice and cool whilst getting all of the toys. I strip him down to nappy and cover floor in towels, mind. I also get splashed but that’s a nice cooling bonus imo ;)

Business as usual here, just with suncream, lots of water, hat etc. Lots of time in the paddling pool. My child is slightly older (13m), but that meant we also had the heat wave when she was newborn last year. Business as usual then too, though she didn't wear a lot of clothes for a while.

arbrighton · 26/07/2018 19:34

Can't not walk the dogs so we do that most days (they went to doggy daycare today)

We went to my mums and had a short trip to the playground today.

DS is a sweaty beast but we're just carrying on as normal (13m)

EssentialHummus · 26/07/2018 19:40

Bathtub/paddling pool with 2 inches of water and toys.
Leisure centre pool.
Picnic in the shade.
Slow walks around Iceland/freezer section of Sainsbury's.
Baby cinema - went with DD yesterday at 10.5 months, she was bewildered but fine.

Cmad116 · 27/07/2018 16:34

My DD is 10 weeks sunday we are mainly staying in if i go out i go early before it gets really hot do feel a bit gutted to not be enjoying this weather but her health comes first
