Omg!

Nothing prepared me for this! He's 5 days old now and so far I've been spared the dirty nappies! I've done a few wet ones but that's it!

Bit of context, it's my partners 6th baby and my first!

How can so much poo come out of something so small????

It was everywhere!!! I couldn't even work out where to start! I must have used about 10 wipes just to clean it up!

And the smell!! Jesus Christ it smelt like a man poo I swear!

Anyway it is done now, so hopefully a happy baby again (he's decided to sleep all day and stay awake at night!)

Oh mate... only 10 wipes & no baths required? Sounds like you're just warming up!!!!

FrizzyNoodles · 27/05/2018 07:41

Wait til he's properly into solids and rolling around!!! Arrrgggghhhh!!! Then when he runs away!!!!
Enjoy Grin

firsttimedad79 · 27/05/2018 07:41

Hey! I never thought of a bath!

Oh no, can't yet, the remnants of the umbilical haven't dropped off yet!

@FrizzyNoodles I was struggling enough working out the logistics of holding his bum up with one hand and trying to wipe with the other!

OP posts:
calamariqueen · 27/05/2018 07:53

I meant neither of you needed to bath Grin

boatyardblues · 27/05/2018 07:59

If it didn’t spread al the way up his back or out the leg cuffs of his nappy and down his legs, you have not yet encountered the poonami. DS1 had such a massive poonami once that it got into the sleeves of his sleep suit and hairline at the nape of his neck. Running a bath is advised in these circumstances...

firsttimedad79 · 27/05/2018 08:00

@calamariqueen well yes I can see that this could be an issue at some point. For now though I escaped with just plenty of hand sanitizer!

Wait til you've got a toddler trying to run away while you're changing them...

Fatted · 27/05/2018 08:01

Wait until you both go in the bath together and then they do a poo in the bath. Grin

Or you're changing them and realise half way through that they're actually still going Grin

DS2 also went through a stage of being unable to poo in a nappy Confused so I had to lie him down on top of a mat to get him to go. That was fun Hmm

firsttimedad79 · 27/05/2018 08:01

@boatyardblues poonami! Never heard that term but sounds horrific!

Let's hope I never have to encounter that!

Ca55andraMortmain · 27/05/2018 08:03

Hahaha I remember these days so we'll, especially the time it exploded all the way up her back and into her hair. I put her in the bath but shitty bathwater was even more gross than the original shitty baby had been. Not a great night! Incidentally, I know they're not for everyone, but I definitely found cloth baby wipes to be
..grippier for want of a better word and even a poonami of epic proportions rarely needed more than two or three.

AprilShowers16 · 27/05/2018 08:04

I hate to say it but toddler poo is even worse (at least in my experience). Have you thought about using reusable wipes? I recently switched and I only need one or two for a poo whereas before I needed about 10!

Congratulations on your baby and dealing with the 💩

firsttimedad79 · 27/05/2018 08:06

@AprilShowers16 I've not seen reusable wipes? To be fair I've not seen much and know even less. I bow down to my partners knowledge in these things! I swear she has 3 arms though in the way she deals with a pooey nappy!

Isadora2007 · 27/05/2018 08:07

He can definitely have a bath despite his umbilical stump not being off yet.
And you ain’t seen nothing yet as he will have poops that come out the sides and down the legs plus up the back. When that happens- if he has an envelope neckline vest on (most designs are) it is made to be able to come down over his body to avoid taking a shitty vest over his face/head.
Not sure why it actually smells bad though- my babies poopy nappies weren’t vile until after they were on solids. Is it maybe a formula thing?

Babynonamee · 27/05/2018 08:09

Gosh it sounds like you are just warming up! That sounds pretty standard. Grin newborn poop is perfectly pleasant in comparison to when they are on solids.

Toddler poop is just awful, especially when they kick and scream and twist and run away!

FrizzyNoodles · 27/05/2018 08:12

Firsttimedad79 watch some wrestling for tips Grin

GinUnicorn · 27/05/2018 08:12

Mine had an upset stomach once and managed to squirt diahrea all over my chest (at least it wasn't face)

Welcome to babies OP they are pretty gross at times and relentless sleep thieves but the most beautiful and amazing thing you can ever experience. Congratulations

firsttimedad79 · 27/05/2018 08:51

@GinUnicorn thankyou!

It really is great having a baby here. Even with the lack of sleep I still look at him when I walk past and smile!

I’ve cut a few baby grows and vests off and disposed off just because it’s easier!

firsttimedad79 · 28/05/2018 11:44

@PenguinJS were they really that bad? Jeez am not looking forward to that!

My partner has said I was unlucky, he had had a bit of a blockage and then exploded! He's back to normal poos now!

hoopdeloop · 28/05/2018 11:50

I remember my DH changing my son and hearing some shouts. I came downstairs to see my DS lying on the changing mat with pee and poo everywhere, all over him and the mat and his clothes. I just turned around and went upstairs to run the bath!

There are going to be many times when you look at a vest/sleepsuit/top covered in poo and think it’s not worth attempting to save and just bin it! Welcome to parenthood!

firsttimedad79 · 28/05/2018 11:58

I'm already dreading the next time I have to do it! His mum has been on duty the past couple of changes so all is good!

Part of me can't wait to get back to work, but part of me wants to jack work in and become a sahd to do all this stuff!

OP posts:
FrizzyNoodles · 28/05/2018 12:50

Your partner should get ten keeping in touch days towards the end of Mat leave.
Also you could ask your employer about going part time. Even if you both did 4 days that saves 2 days childcare. Depending on your job, compressed hours might be an option where you work a full week over 4 days.

ijustwannadance · 28/05/2018 13:04

Oh OP. It only goes downhill from here.
4 month DD had a poo this morning. I stupidly assumed she had finished and lifted her feet to slide dirty nappy out at the exact moment she squeezed again!
She managed to reach the fireplace 2ft away although mostly covered my nappy holding hand and lower leg.

Worst ever was when older DD was about 15 months and shit in her car seat whilst coming home on motorway. OMG the stench. Had to drive rest of way home with open windows.
It had gone up her back and down her legs. Even her shoes were full of shit. Nearly had to buy a new car seat!
Had to strip her off in the bath and hold her bum and legs under the showerGrin

Wait till he gets started on the mulligatanwy
