Just that really. For those of you who have been outside most of the day, how many times have you applied suncream/sunblock to your lo's?

None but that’s because we were inside from 130-430

3 tines as DS had a waterfight with DP and the ‘waterproof’ cream looked suspiciously runny.

He has still gone a bit brown despite his mega 3 hour lunchtime nap inside

Approx 300 times, it feels like Grin. I have the two palest children I have ever seen, their skin is the colour of newborn fish. They’ve been outside all day, in and out of the paddling pool. Practically every time they ran past me I sprayed some more on! They would easily burn after 5 mins in the sun with no cream on.

Once, this morning. We were out in the sun at a playpark and country fair from 10:30 to about 2pm, lots of that time in direct sun. In the afternoon we were mostly indoors or in our shady garden. I don't think anyone visibly caught the sun.

P20 once

Twice, child’s farm factor 50. She doesn’t burn but I’m not risking her health in later life with such strong sun today. Most days when it’s just warm she doesn’t wear it for max vit D absorption but even with spf 50 on you still get about 2% UVB rays through and being out so much that’s enough to maintain vit d levels.

I’d rather top DD up with vit d than deal with skin cancer later in life.

WhatisaNarwhal · 07/05/2018 22:15

Factor 50 first thing all over before we went out at noon, then topped up at the park twice, about 2pm and 4pm, as she was running around between shade and sun in just a nappy, hat, socks and a t shirt.... the sun was so strong.
We were with my Italian “never burns” friend who is presently the colour of a ripe tomato.

DD is blonde, and pale skinned but looks like she’ll be dark when she’s older. Dad is olive skinned and I’m Irish heritage - so I’m not taking any chances to see what she’s got in the melatonin lottery!

Shade does not protect you from UVB rays , your skin can get sun damage in shade too

GothMummy · 07/05/2018 22:19

About every hour, but we were at a water park today and I have very pale blonde DCs and a family history of skin cancer.

Once. Ultrasun extreme, no signs of redness xx

Rach000 · 08/05/2018 08:48

I think I did dd about 3 times over the day but she is very fair. I was thinking about getting a solar buddy as well. As she always wants to help, gets it all over her hands then rubs her eyes and crys her eyes hurt!!
Also need tips with getting it out of clothes as white tops seem to get discoloured easily. I have tried soaking in vanish etc but doesn't make a lot of difference.

IamPickleRick · 08/05/2018 13:17

My in laws never “burn” as they are Mediterranean, however they do get the skin peeling straight off thing which I think means the damage is still being done. I still put loads on the kids even though only one is olive, the others are whiter than snow
