I'm about to loose my mind - stop him playing with his willy

My 2 1/2 year old boy has an obsession with his willy. Not so much in the day time but at night or at opportunity when he doesn't have a nappy he touches his willy to it's erect. Why I'm sooo frustrated is he plays with it at night and then wets the bed sometimes 3 times in the night. Please tell me someone esle is experiencing this and how I can stop this. He's not potty trained yet

Hi Zola, I hope you don't mind but I noticed that you are new to Mumsnet? Welcome anyway.

What you said about him wetting the bed 3 times a night, if he is not potty trained yet then presumably he is wearing a nappy, so how do you know he is wetting 3 times a night?

Rhubarb · 10/05/2007 21:12

Are you a troll too then?

cece · 10/05/2007 22:52

Assuming you are not a troll. My DS went through a phase of this at that age. After a fiddle it gets left poking out of top of nappy and then the bed is wet? I put him back into babygrows and a sleeping bag! But TBH although a pain you just have to wait for him to grow out of it, at least that's what we did.

do they ever grow out of it then

cece · 10/05/2007 22:55

LOL but he now has greater bladder control and is older and has enough sense to keep it tucked into his nappy pants!

Zola78 · 11/05/2007 12:39

A troll in deed. I guess I know your right, Cece but when you are washing bed linen and pyjamas everyday and you are sleep deprived from waking up so frequently you just want it to be over. In time!!!! What finally made him stop playing with his willy at night? My little boy still gets it out when he's in vests, babygrows and a sleeping bag and we have tried many of these combined.

Zola, he's a boy. They never stop playing with their willies. They just get a bit more discreet about it as they get older.

fireflyfairy2 · 11/05/2007 12:58

Mine is same age!

He keeps leaving it hanging out over the top his pull ups & peeing on his clothes

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2007 13:00

A friend put her dd's babygro on backwards to stop her getting undressed at night

could that work?

he sounds fairly determined, though...could you give him a special "fiddling time" before he goes to bed and then ask for his co-operation with "no more fiddling" at night time?

It sounds very wearing indeed.

NoodleStroodle · 11/05/2007 13:00

DS 11 - still goes on
DH older enough to know better - still goes on

Nemo2007 · 11/05/2007 13:01

its normal ds[3.6] constantly fiddles or shows us his willy

honeybunny · 11/05/2007 13:01

You cant stop them fiddling. They all do it, boys and girls. My ds2 is somewhat large !!! it used to cause quite a stir in our NCT group, and with an erection he always wet the bed as it poked out over the top of the nappy. We used a normal sized nappy and then a 2nd larger size over the top, which did help. Try lifting him at your bedtime to use the potty so that his nappy stays dryer for longer.

Diplidophus · 11/05/2007 13:02

It also sounds as if he's really ready to be out of nappies at night.

fireflyfairy2 · 11/05/2007 13:04

At 2 & half he's not going to understand an allocated fiddling time though

I agree, have you tried toilet training him?

GiantSquirrelSpotter · 11/05/2007 13:04

Why d'you want to stop it?

It's normal.

DimpledThighs · 11/05/2007 13:07

at least it is not your DH

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2007 13:08

she wants to stop it because he wets the bed three times a night

DaisyMOO · 11/05/2007 14:59

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you know it's the fiddling that's causing him to wet the bed? I thought when boys/men had an erection they physically couldn't wee? Does he wear nappies at night?

Rhubarb · 11/05/2007 16:26

Weird. My ds is 3 and he shows no interest in his whatsoever. I doubt it's even big enough for him to pull over the top of his nappy.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 11/05/2007 16:37

DaisyMOO, I think he is only wetting the bed because he has pulled his willy out of his nappy in order to fiddle with it and so he ends up weeing outside his nappy.

Zola78 · 11/05/2007 16:50

I only want it to stop because as FrannyandZooey said I am up 3 times in a night to change his bed. The reason I know he's wet 3 times is because he cries as soon as he is wet. I was telling him off for playing with his little friend but a friend advised against and I also found if I told him off he would wet himself more times as well as in the day.

I am going to try and put him on the toilet before bed so that maybe he'll become accustomed to peeing at that time and although he'll still be playing with his willy we we'll be none the wiser

Mercy · 11/05/2007 16:59

Does he wear a bodysuit at night? Do his nappies fit properly?

An all in one type outfit should stop him having access (well, in theory)

FrannyandZooey · 11/05/2007 18:05

It doesn't have to be big enough to be pulled over the top, it's just that when they have finished fiddling, it is pointing upwards, and the wee goes up and leaks out of the nappy

NOT fiddling with your willy age 3 is very unusual, Rhubarb. I'm feeling cross on the OP's behalf that her son's behaviour has been called weird and she has been called a troll.

cece · 11/05/2007 18:53

Actually no I think of it DS was very determined at that stage and used to wake up crying because he had both his arms stuck inside his sleeping bag... LOL And he would still wet it as he had left it poking out of his nappy whike fiddling.

I think I used bribery in the end... some sort of reward if he didn't wet the bed. Ah now I remember I told him he had to be sure to poke his willy back inside his nappy after fiddling

manictreecreature · 11/05/2007 18:54

boxing gloves ought to sort it.
