Orchard games - your child’s favourites

Hi,

I have an almost 2.2 year old who only wants to play with cars/trains/vehicles (actually, that’s not quite true. He also loves books and outdoor/physical play) Anyway, I was thinking of getting him some first game and have heard good things about the orchard range. So far we have the farmyard heads and tales which he’s not that interested in.

So, any recommendations? Counting and colour recognition are not great yet so any that would promote these?

Thanks everyone.

Mine likes the Noah Ark memory game (although doesn't quite grasp the memory aspect, she just matches the animals).

Our charity shops seem to have an endless supply of Orchard games so might be worth checking them first before you buy

Llamas in pyjamas and Catch and Count are my 2.5 year olds current favourites.

My DC’s favourite Orchard Game is the Rocket Game.

Involves counting - person with most loops in their rocket trail wins - but not really colours.

Second shopping list!

If you see a crocodile is great for colour recognition and turn taking. you have to turn cards over to see if you can have a turn. If you get a crocodile card you miss a turn but you get to scream so that makes up for it!

missmapp · 02/03/2018 20:02

Shopping list. Just have played it hundreds of times !!

Aspieparent · 02/03/2018 20:03

Mine like smelly wellies and where's my cupcake. Also like farm yard bingo.

Peachsploosh · 02/03/2018 20:03

Shopping list in our house too. And the match the cup cakes one.

YesItsADebate · 02/03/2018 20:03

Shopping list!

They also like the monkey tree, pigs in pants and the rocket game.

Monster Bingo is good for shapes and colours, although my DS was a few months older when we got it. Tummy Ache is good fun although probably less educational than some of them. We found Snakes and Ladders-type games helped with counting.

GreenSpaghetti · 02/03/2018 20:04

Knickerbocker glory is quite good for the younger ones, game doesn't last too long either!

Shopping List
Farmyard Bingo
Where Do I Live?

All popular here. And when a bit old Pirates Snakes and Ladders and Ludo.

TuckMyWin · 02/03/2018 20:06

The Incey Wincey spider game.

Winifredgoose10 · 02/03/2018 20:07

For that age ladybirds (counting) and dotty dinosaurs(colours and shapes).
Hope though not counting or shapes mine preferred shopping list, crazy chefs and tummy ache(the probable favourite).

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 02/03/2018 20:09

Shopping list is our favourite here. We also like the lotto games. We have the bus one and the bug one.
Great games that can last a few years too.

Quack Quack, shopping list and pigs in pants

Summerdays2014 · 02/03/2018 20:11

Wow thanks for all the recommendations, I’m definitely going to get a few and will start with shopping list! We’ve been snowed in the last 2 days and I am soooo bored of train and cars and diggers. I think it’s time we introduced some new things for both of us!

Pizza Pizza is fun and good for colours and shapes. It's even more fun if, instead of binning the gross pizza slices, you put them together into the most disgusting pizza ever, which the losing person has to pretend to eat while everyone else says "no, it's too gross! Ewww!". My DC used to be in fits of laughter over it, as what they loved at that age was all things gross, and getting a reaction. They enjoyed losing more than winning.

Mol1628 · 02/03/2018 20:12

Shopping list.

Oogle · 02/03/2018 20:15

At that age the postbox game is a really good one as promotes colour recognition and you can count the letters you post. By 3 he’ll probably like shopping list or crazy chefs.

Summerdays2014 · 02/03/2018 20:15

Also, did you tend to stick to the age recommendations? Lots of them say 3 upwards but sound great.

Chienrouge · 02/03/2018 20:16

I’ve never looked at the age recommendations TBH

Mistydampandwet · 02/03/2018 20:56

eurochick · 02/03/2018 21:04
