ds at 14m
dd1 at about 10 and 1/2 m
dd2 at about 12 1/2m

..... that's tottering around in the house, not "walking everywhere never to crawl again"

quilpie · 23/01/2018 23:34

DS took three steps on the morning of his first birthday.

By the end of the week there was no stopping him.

mymatemax · 23/01/2018 23:46

Ds1 11 months
Ds2 23 months

But not confidently and outside until around 16 months.

earlylifecrisis · 24/01/2018 17:26

One just before her first birthday. The other at 14 months but not confident till 15

FancyNewBeesly · 24/01/2018 17:27

My twins are 16 months, and were 5 weeks early

One started walking about 15 months but only now starting to walk without constantly falling down.

The other is just cruising, bouncing up and down and taking little supported steps - he's very stable but no interest in actually walking yet. Crawling is too easy for him I guess!

elQuintoConyo · 24/01/2018 17:30

Ds 8mo3wks Shock got up and ran!

6Yo now and showing no signs of slowing down!

LambMadras · 24/01/2018 17:57

DS1 was 19 months.
DS2 was 22 months.

Lazy boys! Grin

ImMrsBrightside · 24/01/2018 18:41

My DD is 14 months today. Took first steps just before her first birthday then gave up and showed no interest in walking. The past two weeks has been walking towards people and standing up on her own. She still prefers to crawl and if she's not in the mood and you try and encourage her to walk towards you/daddy/nana she says "no" and flops down to crawl!! Grin Reckon it will be a few months before walking is her main mode of transport!

icantdothis2017 · 24/01/2018 19:37

First steps at 15 months. Walking outside two weeks later

Ilovemybaby91 · 24/01/2018 19:55

elquinto I think my daughter might be like your son! She is almost 7 months, pulling herself up onto furniture to stand & standing completely unaided for 5-10seconds at times. She also took a step or two towards her dad from me the other day (unaided) she's totally uninterested in crawling, gets frustrated & cries. I didn't think it was possible so young but I think she'll prove me wrong not long from now! Thanks everyone for your comments about your lovely babies! Grin

My LO wanted to stand from birth and was walking well by 8.5 months... but she didn't learn to crawl until nearly 12 months and even at 14 months her crawling looked awkward.

Ilovemybaby91 · 24/01/2018 20:18

cornish my daughter was the same from birth.. if you laid her on your chest she'd push off you & climb all the way up to your head Grin as soon as she wakes up from a nap she's trying to sit up & go go go! You saying that about the lack of interest in crawling too really makes me think she'll be running marathons before she crawls across the living room! Wink

My friend's twins started walking properly at 8 months - by 10 months they were running after me in the park. Never seen anything like it!

crocodarl · 24/01/2018 21:01

My 1st son was like your girl, OP. Could crawl well at 5 months and pull to standing unassisted and cruise at 6 months, walked at 9 months. As he was our first, we didn't think it was anything special at the time.

My 2nd one didn't crawl or stand til 10 months, walked at 15 months.

3rd is now 15 months, has never crawled, only bum shuffles. Only started pulling to standing last month, cruises a bit but I think he's still at least a month off walking.

Not fair to compare them, but I find it fascinating!! Think possibly my eldest has a lot of upper body strength and shorter, sturdier legs than his brothers hence why it was easier for him to get going early... but that's just a guess...

whichwayisout · 24/01/2018 21:02

1st day of birthday
2nd 14/15 months
Who knows with no.3.

pastabest · 24/01/2018 21:04

8.5 months, but cruised confidently from quite a long time before that. She also crawled early and had pretty good head control from birth.

Apparently there is some research the babies who don't lose the stepping reflex by about 2 months (most do, DD didn't) often walk early.

I've not been able to find much to back this up though.

Ilovemybaby91 · 24/01/2018 21:31

It's really fascinating. I look at milestones & think she is definitely ahead in this particular area. But with things like babbling, talking... she barely does it at all! & she's quite serious, takes a lot to make her giggle Hmm I guess just like adults babies have their own strengths too! Reading some of your comments I'm betting she'll be toddling by the 8-9 month mark! God help me! Grin

Yes, DD was the same, she is a little behind with communication.

I think the theory is that they either concentrate on walking or talking.

elQuintoConyo · 24/01/2018 21:40

He rolled back-to-front at 3mo and crawled at 5mo. Just so active. Once he could roll at 3mo nappy changing was a fricking nightmare!

He spoke later but is being raised bilingual, so that might have been it. Never stops waffling now, just like his mum Grin

SuperBeagle · 24/01/2018 21:47

DS1 was 12 months.
DS2 was 13 months.
DD1 was 9 months. Never properly crawled.
DD2 was 9 months. Also never properly crawled.

I was an early walker also. My grandmother's friend, who was a doctor, insists that I was army crawling along the floor of her office when I was 3 months old.

The theory here is that early walkers often tend to display less coordination than those who walk at the average age or later. This is because a child who walks early often forgoes other developmental steps (as mine did with not crawling etc) in favour of walking. This can mean that other skills, developed during those stages, are lacking.
