Annoying Mum

Bex1517 · 04/01/2018 17:47

Does anyone else's Mum say stupid comments. I mean I love my mum but my lord does she say some stupid things. Like today I told her that I only really have my heating on for around 3 Hours max a day and she said that's why the boys get ill with colds 🤦🏼‍♀️. And the other day my baby was wearing dark grey and she kept telling me she didn't like it.

Mine told me I should get a really uncomfortable chair to sit in for breast feeding so I won't fall asleep in it. I just said ''mmmmm' and ordered a lovely reclining armchair!

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 04/01/2018 20:04

Mine will tell me that she doesn't like the colour of the lounge or the way my furniture is arranged or pictures hung up etc. I just hmmm while thinking, "You don't live here!"

She also tends to nag that the DCs don't have lots of clubs (like DN) but then gets huffy if we can't see her because we are at x activity. Go figure.

I do love her though.

Not just my mum then! 🤓

The first thing my mum says to me when I have the baby is "oohhhh her hands are cold" in an accusing way.

My DDs has cold hands 24/7 even in mitts.

When I pick DD up from said mother she's cooking, and wrapped up... But her hands are cool.

Gets on my nerve.

Bex1517 · 04/01/2018 20:33

Mines says that all the time as well! Does my head in. I always say most babies hands are cold woman 🙄

Mine tells us we should move to a bungalow, because she doesn’t like stairs (she doesn’t live here)

OnNaturesCourse · 04/01/2018 20:38

I also get "let her cry" and "she CANT be teething yet?! " (she's got white bits pushing her gums...)

Bex1517 · 04/01/2018 20:45

Oh my days that's so silly about the stairs. 🤦🏼‍♀️ mine says let him cry too and also he should be outside sleeping in his pram. Em it's -2 mother I think not 🙄🙄

Mine thought we were being fussy first time parents taking our LO to the doctors a few times as she wasn’t right- turned out we were right and she was poorly. You just know.

OnNaturesCourse · 05/01/2018 11:14

Today I got "keep her awake during the day so she sleeps at night!"

This comment came after I spent 5 hours trying to get DD to sleep the previous night.

Babies don't do routine, and have you ever tried to wake a sleeping baby that isn't needing fed or changed?!

I was advised with my newborn that "if the baby is crying, find out what makes him stop and then do it again next time."

I mean, what did she think I'd been doing??!!

I also got a request by her to take a video of the baby crying "because it sounds so sweet". When I declined because it was too upsetting, she replied "it's ok, **I won't get upset".

And I have to include these nuggets of advice, not from my mother but my aunt:

"If a child cries,

  1. Check whether he is hungry.
  2. Thirsty
  3. Sleepy
If not because of these three
  1. Check the place where he lies or sits whether there are insects like ants or something that hurts him like a pin."

So yeah, lots of useful stuff here from my family!

Bex1517 · 05/01/2018 15:44

Oh my days!! They can be so silly can't they! I bet they wouldn't like their mums telling them what to do! My little one has a cold so isn't sleeping. Queue grumpy stressed mummy 😖😖

A bit off here but my DGM who's like a DM to me - first thing she looked for when she saw both my kids when they were first born was their ears. Her comment with DC2 was "ooh he has got lovely flat ears" with DC1 however the tops of his ears were a little floppy as they were folded in when he was born I was advised by her to keep and eye on them and if they don't become flat soon to tape them back so he doesn't end up with sticky out ears Confused
Don't know her obsession with flat ears but her DM is the same.

Bex1517 · 05/01/2018 19:19

Haha that's a bit strange

Isn’t that in the job description for mums though? I have worked in a professional corporate environment for 25 years my mum still reminds me to make sure I wear clean clothes so I give the right impression.
I have never gone to work in dirty clothes Hmm

SAMlady · 05/01/2018 19:44

My funny Mum says don't wear your coat/ boots outside, it'll get wet. Er, isn't that it's function?

DeleteOrDecay · 05/01/2018 19:47

Not so much my mum but my GM has come out with some corkers in the past. The most memorable one was when she said I should leave dc1 to cry as a newborn because it helps their lungs develop.

Frogletmamma · 05/01/2018 19:47

I am the wrong side of 40 and my mother still tries to brush my hair when I am out. Also she dribbles on a tissue and attempts to wipe DD's face

JuniUmiZoomi · 05/01/2018 19:53

I'm pregnant and whenever I say I'm hungry (fairly often) she always says 'good'.
When I was a bit loopy after DD was born I suggested to DP that we give her to the neighbour as I couldn't do it. When I told my mum this she got huffy that I didn't suggest giving her to her (DM). As opposed to being worried that I'd been so loopy I thought that giving the baby away was a good idea.

Bex1517 · 05/01/2018 19:57

Jeez. Mums eh! But my husband tells me I sometimes come out with things that my mum would say. How dare he 🙄 🤦🏼‍♀️ not me haha x
