Newborn Nappies - Bimble or Swaddlebees

Shivs1974 · 19/04/2007 21:55

Am hoping that someone will be able to help...A colleague at work is expecting her first and is looking to use cloth nappies. She was thinking of using either Bimbles or Swaddlebees as a newborn nappy.

She's looking for slim-line look with good containment and would rather have velcro or poppers. She hopes to use Tots Bots as Size 2s.

Can anyone help or suggest something else?
I don't have experience of these as used Tots Bots and Motherease wraps for my two.

Many thanks

i like the swaddlebees i have. fuzzi bunz is also v. good. v slim and absorbent - esp if you use the microfibre inserts that come with them. also they dry almost as soon as they come out of the washing machine.
HTH

Thank you - that's good to know. Anyone else have any comments? Does anyone know the url of the nappy review site that one MNer put together a while ago?

Is she thinking of the swaddlebees pockets or the ones that need a wrap? The pockets arent that good on containment imo, particularly newborn poo. was the first nappy i bought and almost put me off reusables cos it just wasnt reliable enough. Think the others are great though cos the seperate wrap means that anything that escapes the nappy is caught by the wrap

The swaddlebees organic velour are a lovely nweborn nappy but quite expensive if you are buying a few, a Mothearse x small sandys is a good alterbative, slim fitting and lovely and soft

Flamesparrow · 20/04/2007 19:07

Swaddlebees organic velour are goooooooooooooorgeous.

Those Swaddlebees organic velour do look gorgeous! What wrap would you use with those for a newborn?

ceolas · 22/04/2007 13:34

Will the TBs size 2s be enormous on a new baby? I know they say they do from birth with a bit of folding.

snugglebumnappies · 22/04/2007 15:51

I have actually found TB size 2 less bulky on a newborn than a size 1, as there is more nappy there seems to be less gathered fabric round the back. My children have all been biggish babies though (8lb10oz and bigger).

powder28 · 22/04/2007 15:54

I just bought a couple of second hand organic velour swaddlebees nappies off ebay and they fit my ds really well without being too bulky. I also like the fact that they popper at the sides.
He is a year old.

Flamesparrow · 23/04/2007 07:42

Bambineos sz 2 are a lot slimmer on a newborn than tots sz2.

Wraps for the swaddlebees... probably a motherease rikki (the smallest size)

I´ve got a swaddlebees and a load of bimbles but still waiting for baby (due on wednesday,..come on baby!!) so can´t talk from direct experience yet. The bimbles look pretty small and cute though and I think they are a bit cheaper than the swaddlebees so it might depend on her budget?

I´ll get back to you whenever Master Maveta decides to put in an appearance if you like

Shivs1974 · 23/04/2007 11:31

Thank you everyone....and Maveta, if you could let me knownewborn baby time permitting!!) that'd be great. Hope you don't have to wait much longer!!

Thanks! I will let you know

Quick update for you... ds is now 2 weeks and we´ve been getting on great with both the bimbles and the swaddlebees´, I really couldn´t choose between them.. the swaddlebees are so so gorgeous and I wish I could afford more but the bimbles are really good too.. not as pretty but still quite cute and diddy under clothes. I can´t judge much on absorbency because him being so little I change him really regularly even at night. TBH the deciding factor is probably money, if she can afford the swaddlebees´ then go for it, I would love to have a whole bunch of them, but if not the bimbles will do the job.

I would say that I am not sure the bimbles would fit a chubby baby aswell, they seem to be very much a ´hipster´ cut and I am not convinced they will fit him up to 15lbs as claimed although I might be wrong..

I´ve got a couple of wbb´s too and I would choose that as my size 2 over the tots bamboozle just because they are so nicely slimfitting. HTH.

Ceolas · 16/05/2007 11:29

Congrats maveta! What wraps are you using?

Flamesparrow · 16/05/2007 11:36

Ooh did I miss you having the baby????

How's it going?

Washersaurus · 16/05/2007 11:39

I absolutely loved my bimbles on DS and am looking forward to reusing them on new baby in Aug - fab fit and containment but don't last very long as so teeny tiny!

I would think it is probably a good first nappy if using Tots bots size 2's birth to potty which might be a bit too bulky for the first few weeks.

sorkycake · 16/05/2007 13:33

My ds is in organic velour swaddlebees (from Flamey) and I lurvvve them! I also have some Bambineo's which are good too. I use woollypants as wraps and they're adorable! I challenge anyone to find a baby's bum as quite as my Ds's. They're pricey but well worth it

Ceolas · 16/05/2007 13:34

Are you using the newborn size, sorkycake? How are they for size?

sorkycake · 16/05/2007 15:35

Well my chunky monkey is 3 months now (where the time has gone is anyone's guess) and is 16lbs so I went for the one size nappies and they fit beautifully! I always use the additional booster as he's a heavy wetter. They come in lovely colours too.
My mum was stroking his nappied bum yesterday lol.
I love his woollypants even more though, especially the longies.

maveta · 16/05/2007 17:35

Hi Flame! Yes he´s finally here! and I´m loving real nappies.. can´t wait to be able to buy some more

Ceolas - using ME rikki and a nature babies´ (thanks flame! ).. I have a couple of airflow but find them a bit bulky under clothes just now, think they´ll be great for summer and when he´s a bit bigger though.

Flame.. from what weight would you say size 2 wbb´s work well as a still-slim nappy?

Flamesparrow · 16/05/2007 18:07

I'll look up what size DS was when he first went in them

Ceolas · 16/05/2007 18:09

Flame, I got the Rikki wraps today, thanks.

They look quite big. Do you think XS would be too small? I grow 'em big!

Flamesparrow · 16/05/2007 19:10

The XS are meant to be suited more to prefolds, but I have wondered if they are better for skinny legs. Never had the 2 next to each other to compare though iyswim
