Where do you put your baby??

Hi all. Bit random, but I was wondering where people put their babies/young children for safety or if anyone has any tips!!
I’ll clarify, am a single parent, with a now active crawling pulling to standing curious 10 month old so when I have something I need to do where he can’t come with me, eg quick shower or take the bins out etc, I strap him safely into his highchair for 5/10 mins and he will either play with his table top toys, or quite happily watch Peppa Pig

Anyone else?? 😊

Have a 21 month old .
She goes in her cot , in the shower with me .
Cot with toys and cartoons on ipad .
Have older kids 4 ans 5 who can be trusted for 10 minutes whilst I shower

DS is nearly 1 and if it’s a shower he usually comes in with me or sits in his cot with some toys. Anything else, if it can’t be done in a matter of a couple of minutes and I’m in the same room, it waits till he is napping. I put the recycling out the other week (tiny front garden, could see him through the window. Door way blocking the living room from the hall way) he managed to lock me out! 🙈

Haha oh dear! We are in a ground floor Flat and bins are only few seconds walk from back foot anyway. If I put him in his cot even with toys he’d scream at me.. he doesn’t like being ignored!! Lol

Nearly 3 year old could be truasted f4om before she was 2 (for short periods, really good now). Before that she went into her cot with toys. I like it best when they are babies and can be safely left on the floor!

user9217 · 16/11/2017 19:51

I know!! Before hand before he could move but could sit confidently I left him on the floor with toys we have all the appropriate baby proof equipment stair gate into kitchen locks in cupboards etc he just always finds a way to do something he shouldn’t! Grin

I had a travel cot and that was a godsend. Other than that, I've had my pushchair in the bathroom with me before and my baby would bath/shower with me if I had one when she was awake. She's now 20 months old and happily sits in her bedroom looking at her books while I have a shower. It does get easier!

Changerofname987654321 · 16/11/2017 20:02

I bath every night with DD to save time in the mornings.

user9217 · 16/11/2017 20:14

I feel guilty like I’m wishing his life away! Everything with me is ‘it’ll be easier when he’s older...’ or ‘it’ll be good when he’s older we can do x y z...’ etc! Lol very true tho

Nothing to feel guilty about, being a single parent is hard. I wish my toddler would still go into a travel cot sometimes!

SparkleFizz · 16/11/2017 20:23

We have a playpen in the living room for my youngest (11 months), complete with a selection of baby safe toys.

MummaDeeDee · 16/11/2017 20:25

Oh I’ve been there. My playpen was my saviour. Fill it with anything that can’t harm her. It’s soooooo much harder when they become mobile x

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 16/11/2017 20:33

I always popped mine into their cot, if I was say jumping in the shower and hubby was at work.

BrioAmio · 16/11/2017 20:38

Mine used to go in his cot in his room whilst I had a shower and I'd put an audio story on for him to listen to whilst he played.

Mulch · 16/11/2017 20:42

Cot or jumperoo aka circle of neglect

NapQueen · 16/11/2017 20:44

Bins once he is in bed for the night. Shower either before he wakes or during his nap or sit him in the base of the shower.

Alicekeach · 16/11/2017 20:47

Playpen / cot / jumperoo, depending on where I am in the house. I have twins, so even if I never showered, I’d need somewhere safe to put one twin while changing / bathing / dressing the other.

ILoveDolly · 16/11/2017 20:50

My middle child was very mischievous and so I got a baby cage Grin or playpen as they are also called. It was not her favourite place but when she was two I had another baby and it was very useful for emergency nappy changes/popping upstairs/doing the recycling during babies nap etc

Applesandpears23 · 16/11/2017 20:50

We shut all the doors and closed the stairgate which made the upstairs landing a giant playpen.

AnonEvent · 16/11/2017 20:54

I either pop DD in her cot or strap her into her pushchair and drive her into whatever room I’m in (ground floor flat, large hallway running front to back).

seven201 · 16/11/2017 21:40

My daughter is 17 months but hates being ‘caged’ anywhere. So she just had to come with me or I’d have to wait until she was asleep she wasn’t a good sleeper!. Or if no option I’d put her in the carrier but she’s always been big and my back couldn’t handle that for long. When I have a shower I have her in the room with me and I ram my foot against the shower screen door so she can’t break in. She quite enjoys just banging on the screen which doesn’t make a relaxing shower! I have to put the loo brush etc on top of the toilet cistern so she can’t eat it.

user9217 · 16/11/2017 21:59

Yep same here re baby carrier. He’s a big boy and is too heavy to carry round! Back issues for me also. he hates travel cots - won’t even sit in one without screaming then I get angry neighbours.... I think he’s happy enough in his highchair for 10 mins if there’s something I need to get done.. he’s obsessed with Peppa Pig so I put that on Netflix for him he loves it 😂😂

In the vice.

mindutopia · 17/11/2017 11:00

It depends what exactly it is. If it was cleaning, I would wear her in a wrap and get on with it or sit her in a high chair next to me. Shower, bins, etc. I always do after bedtime at night when I don't have to wonder where she is.

ImAMarshmellow · 17/11/2017 11:34

Shower... he roams the landing (Baby gate on stairs). He’s got some toys to play with and any rooms he’s not allowed in, I just shut the door. I don’t shut him in the bathroom with me because The bathrooms tiny.

when I’m in the kitchen he tends to follow me and popping the bins out I just leave him whilst he’s throwing a million bricks around playing nicely.
