Holiday with a new born

I'm after some advice about taking a new born abroad.

I'm due in May 2018 and my husband and I have booked to go to my sisters wedding in Majorca in June.
If I go overdue, baby will only be 10days old when we are due to fly. Anybody got any advice about potentially taking a newborn away, I just don't want to miss my sisters wedding! Is it possible or am I being foolish holding on to hope?

Haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been said already but I have recently done the whole speedy passport for a new baby thing...

You can get a passport on the 7 day express service if you make an appointment at a passport office e.g. Newport, Peterborough, Liverpool. You MUST make this appointment in advance and you pay when you book. You do not get a refund if you have to miss the appointment. It costs about £90. I have just done this for my newborn and the passport actually came in just a few days.

HOWEVER - you MUST have the full birth certificate, which means you must have registered the baby's birth. This has to be done within 42 days anyway (fewer in Scotland I think), but where I live there were no appointments for about 25 days!! So it would have been impossible for me to get a passport for my son in the timeframe you are aiming for. There are sometimes cancellations but that would mean checking every day and then hoping you could get a passport appointment immediately.

I would also bear in mind that you might not be in a fit state yourself, though of course you might be absolutely fine. No way to tell in advance unfortunately! I would have been fine to travel with my first pretty much immediately but not my second (EMCS).

I moved to the other side of the world when my first was only 11 weeks old and it was fine, and I am taking a toddler and a 7 week old on my own to visit family next week, which will involve 2 flights. Perhaps I am mad! If I was physically well I wouls be fine travelling with a very recent newborn but passports etc make it very difficult.

One other thing to consider - your baby will not have had his first jabs yet, which for some parents would be a dealbreaker.

In general terms though I would say that flying/travelling is MUCH easier with a tiny than with a toddler!

Oh my! I wouldn't have been able to do that.
Perhaps considering being there via Skype?
At least you'll get to see the ceremony...

And congratulations on your pregnancy!

Some airlines won't take infants less than 12 days old which is the first thing to work out. Next is waiting time to register baby's birth - we got our ds registered on day 3. Passport photos done on day 4. DH went to London on day 5 to the passport office in London to make the application. Passport received on day 9. So paperwork wise it's totally possible if the relevant registration and passport office appointments are available. What you can't control obviously is how easy/trouble free you dcs birth is. If you have a fairly uneventful birth and get on with bfing (like I did), it's to all doable. Of you do bf, not having vaccinations wouldn't worry me (and indeed didn't when I travelled to the ME with ds before he had his). But just the faff of FF whilst travelling would put me off a bit.

Lots of doom and gloom stories here but my ds has never vomited like the exorcist, never had a poonami and travelled like a dream when he was a babe in arms. Different story now he's a 2yo whirlwind.

Make tentative plans. I would. Good luck!

^What previous posters have said about recycled aeroplane air and mosquitoes. We just got back from Majorca and we were all bitten to fuck - I counted over 30 bites just on my left calf alone. Sorry OP but I just wouldn't.
