Baby had day old water?!

georgeisadinosaur · 12/10/2017 20:58

I just accidently gave my 10 month old DC day old water and I'm feeling very guilty!

She has a couple of identical sippy cups and I was out yesterday evening so wasn't here to wash it out/sterilise and her DF must have put a seperate one in the steriliser. I made a new one this morning but have now found the one I made and realised I have given her the old one from yesterday morning all afternoon Blush

It was boiled water in a sterilised cup so I am hoping it will be okay but I am worrying a bit, anyone with any experience/knowledge on the risks??

SheRaaargh- I asked a question, op doesn't have to answer If they don't want to. I'm only curious as a medical professional with a microbiology/immunology major where op has got the advice they need to boil their babies tap water at that age. The only thing I can possibly think of is maybe SCID, even oncology and leukaemia patients aren't generally advised they need to boil tap water. Really the only thing that could possibly make you sink from tap water in developed countries is legionella or cryptosporidium and they are extremely rare unless there has been a recent outbreak in your area, or potentially something like pseudomonas if you haven't cleaned your tap or glasses/cups/etc for ages and ages.

Reppin · 12/10/2017 23:58

Do you mean 10 weeks OP? Surely no one sterilises cups and boils water for a 10 month old.

georgeisadinosaur · 13/10/2017 07:17

LucyL I don't really want to go into her medical condition but this is under the advice of 3 specialist consultants.

Well it's going to be very difficult for posters on here to advise you if you're not going to give key information.
If you're still concerned, I suggest you call your HV or ask for a phone appointment with your GP as they will be aware of your daughter's medical issues.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/10/2017 08:44

Three different consultants have told you it’s imperative that you boil her water? Wouldn’t most people have put that rather pertinent information in the op? Why didn’t you? Hmm

BoredOnMatLeave · 13/10/2017 08:49

To be fair OP the medical condition is a bit of a drip feed as no-one knows what condition it is and if day old water will make a difference.

In normal circumstances of course it would be ok.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 13/10/2017 08:52

Blimey op, if your DD has medical conditions that require special procedures that you haven't shared on here, then you are taken a bit of risk asking us lot for advice.

SelmaAndJubjub · 13/10/2017 08:53

Of course it is.

georgeisadinosaur · 13/10/2017 09:30

Because her medical history isn't something that needs to go on the internet.

If I asked if I needed to boil/sterilise after x amount of months yes I would put the info as its relevant. I asked if water goes bad after 24 hrs as it was late at night so no one I could ask so I thought a group who largely would have DCs may know.

I didn't expect 80% of posters to jump to conclusions and laugh it off, just to answet if they knew..

Oh for god's sake. It's like asking if the sea is too cold for a child at this time of year, and then later dropping in they can't swim - of course it affects the question you asked. If your daughter genuinely has that serious a medical condition that she can't have tap water, ask one of the three specialist consultants, don't ask randoms on the internet, especially when you only give them partial information.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/10/2017 10:33

her medical history isn’t something that needs to go on the Internet
But you were asking had she been poisoned by drinking water that had been boiled yesterday Confused
On the face of it, a completely ridiculous overreaction. And then you casually drop in the information that she’s actually under the care of no less than three specialist consultants, feigning amazement that this could possibly be relevant. Really?
If her health is so fragile, you’d have to be quite spectacularly dim to ask randoms on the Internet instead of one of your pet consultants, wouldn’t you?
Hypothetically speaking, of course...

KarateKitten · 13/10/2017 10:34

You know all water is days old no matter where it comes from! It's all be sitting somewhere......

georgeisadinosaur · 13/10/2017 10:56

I couldn't ask a proffessional at 9pm at night...

I was very anxious and worried that it could be dangerous and hoped for some reassurance until I could ask. I was silly to turn to mumsnet given that most posters just use this as an anonymous platform to be cruel.

Even taking the medical side away there is no need to laugh off someones worries. If you have no advice or guidance why bother saying anything at all.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/10/2017 11:08

Have you spoken to someone this morning?

123bananas · 13/10/2017 11:16

It could be worse.

At least it wasn't a slug, worm or a bit of old food off the floor He is 3 and still with us.

Chill out, there are things you should worry about them ingesting, button batteries and yew berries for example. This is not one of them.

mindutopia · 13/10/2017 11:26

I'm sure that's absolutely fine. I never sterilised cups and I never boiled water. Mine is still alive at 4.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 13/10/2017 11:32

Sorry op, I think you're being a bit over sensitive with the reactions you got. most just tried to reassure you that all would be well and that boiled water is not necessary, I don't think anyone would comment on this issue if they knew the child had special needs. I hope all is well

whinetime89 · 13/10/2017 11:41

Today my 11 month old ( 3rd child) found a 3 day old pear under the couch and started eating it. #mumoftheyear 😂😂

GinIsIn · 13/10/2017 11:47

Right. We are cruel for not magically guessing your child had additional needs which completely change the answer to the question you asked? Confused. OK then. If she has these mystery medical needs you'd be best off calling 111 or asking a specific support forum for your daughter's condition.

mintteaandbananabread · 13/10/2017 11:51

You realise bottled water wasn't bottled in the 24 hours before you drink it?

Sohurt17 · 13/10/2017 11:52

It’s impossible to answer your question though because there are other things in play.

For a typical 10 mo with no health issues then day old boiled water is not an issue and you are a bit daft to give it so much brain space.

A 10 mo with, say, colic for example, you are right to be somewhat concerned and it would be perfectly understandable if you wanted to ring a professional for reassurance.

It’s all about context.

cestlavielife · 13/10/2017 11:53

If it's an issue get the number of hospital children's ward so you can call.24/7 for advice or 111 where you can give the medical details.

Unless the water was put in a dirty cup then little chance it is a risk after one day

georgeisadinosaur · 13/10/2017 13:42

Yes I have spoken to somebody now about it - thank you for the helpful responses.

mint bottled water is completely different. It has been bottled and sealed, once a sippy cup/bottle has been made and baby had a drink the bacteria from their mouths go into the water and it can then multiply. Yes its unlikely in a day but that isn't the same as sealed water. That is like comparing the baby jars in the cupboard vs one thats been open and sat on the side 24hrs, not going to last as long/be as clean.

Fuck me some people couldn't wait to make a nasty little comment here could they.

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/10/2017 20:34

Did the person you spoke to reassure you george?
I am sure your DC will be fine but its entirely natural for you to be worried.
