Baby had day old water?!

georgeisadinosaur · 12/10/2017 20:58

I just accidently gave my 10 month old DC day old water and I'm feeling very guilty!

She has a couple of identical sippy cups and I was out yesterday evening so wasn't here to wash it out/sterilise and her DF must have put a seperate one in the steriliser. I made a new one this morning but have now found the one I made and realised I have given her the old one from yesterday morning all afternoon Blush

It was boiled water in a sterilised cup so I am hoping it will be okay but I am worrying a bit, anyone with any experience/knowledge on the risks??

Pram wheels and wellies are a delicacy!

They must be considering the tantrum thrown when removed from my child's mouth

BuzzKillington · 12/10/2017 21:18

Sterilising at 10 months?

You need to unclench!

mossyroundhill · 12/10/2017 21:19

Some of these comments are so unkind. Is there really any need to be so sarcastic? OP, your DC will be fine but please don't take this thread to heart.

...do you live in a third world country where cholera is endemic? If not then there is absolutely no reason to boil your tap water for drinking, consider it a privilege if living in a first world society. I would bloody well hope my tap water is safe for drinking without boiling considering we pay water bills for that very reason.

3EyedRaven · 12/10/2017 21:21

Aww, you lot are being mean Grin
It will be fine, OP

SunFinished · 12/10/2017 21:23

I also feel for the OP, there is no need to be sarcastic and rude. I remember being a first time mum and questioning everything I did and it didn't feel nice when people ridiculed me incidently was why I stopped asking a lot of things on here because I thought people would take the piss
OP, your baby will be fine, your doing a fab job.Smile

Yes I gave up sterilising when it occurred to me that every time we went to playgroup DD was putting grimy unwashed toys in her mouth along with all the other snotty babies / toddlers in the group. Week after week after week those toys never even got so much as a wipe down.

Ditto dummies.

She also likes to suck pram wheels.

No one dares go bare foot as otherwise she will start licking their toes.

She consumes at least an A4 side of paper a fortnight by chewing the corners off every document, envelope, catalogue and newspaper she can get her hands on.

And then there is the cat's bum....

She is nearly 9 months and tap water out of a sippy cup that's been chucked through the dishwasher is definitely not going to be what kills her out of all of that.

GinIsIn · 12/10/2017 21:24

The only thing you need to sterilise are bottles from milk. You don't need to sterilise sippy cups, and you don't need to boil water past 6 months. And no, nothing bad is going to happen. Are you usually this anxious about things?

gandalfspants · 12/10/2017 21:26

You only need to sterilise bottles after 6 months (advise is to do these up to one now). Tap water in a washed cup is fine.

1 day won’t turn water to poison.

DD licked the dog at 10 months and she’s still here.

Taylor22 · 12/10/2017 21:29

You need to sterilise bottles for as long as you are using formula in them.

Ohwell14 · 12/10/2017 21:30

The water from the taps where I live makes me literally throw up. People still give me tap water without saying that it is. I'm not being precious it really does, I have no idea why. So I will be boiling all the water when my baby gets older just in case

georgeisadinosaur · 12/10/2017 21:31

Thanks for the nasty comments Hmm

She isn't my PFB actually but has had many extra medical needs so yes in her case does need boiled water. My question was more in that its been sat there well over 24 hrs.

OP posts:
scrivette · 12/10/2017 21:37

It will be fine.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 12/10/2017 21:37

If the cup was sterilised and the water hot when it went it to it, risks are pretty minimal.

If it was milk, given additional medical needs, then that might be a worry.

I don't think you should worry about this though

The scathing comments are understandable, tbf though. You didn't mention anything about medical needs in your OP, and to worry about this would normally be a bit OTT.

Qcumber · 12/10/2017 21:38

I don't think people were being nasty. You didn't mention any medical needs in your OP and that obviously makes a difference. You need to give all the information relevant to your question.

georgeisadinosaur · 12/10/2017 21:43

It wasnt really relevant though as my question wasn't am I being ridiculous/OTT it was about if day old water is okay, I didn't ask if I still needed to boil/sterilise just about if water sitting there for a day is a risk.

But yes I do get more anxious about these things Grin some of pp examples of what their babies do would give me chills if DD did them! Shock

OP posts:
SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 12/10/2017 21:47

It absolutely is relevant because day old tap water in a clean cup would be fine, unless there are medical issues which mean you need to sterilise.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 12/10/2017 21:48

I do understand, I had a baby with extra needs and sterilised everything for far longer than I did for my older ones. He was at much higher risk of infection.

I still think you don't need to worry Smile

BamburyFuriou3 · 12/10/2017 21:53

All of mine were walking by 10 months. Dd1 ate a snail at that age. Dd2 chewed on a friend's dogs tail and had a thing for licking floors and windows, and Ds likes to chew shoes. Flipflops and wellies are his favourite and he doesn't mind if you're still wearing them. He's also chewed sticks and eaten at least 2 woodlice. And he's never had a stomach upset yet! Colds/coughs and croup yes, but nothing else (so far).
Kids are vile Grin

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 12/10/2017 22:00

Sometimes it’s worth googling instead of jumping on Mumsnet....

LeonoraFlorence · 12/10/2017 22:01

That is tame compared to only buying baby bottled water until they discontinued it and my PFB was 3 Blush.

LucyLambstealer · 12/10/2017 22:24

Can I ask what medical condition your child has that requires them to drink only boiled water?

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 12/10/2017 23:23

LucyL - MYOB.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 12/10/2017 23:29

They will probably be fine- and if not an upset tummy is the most likely outcome so you will soon know.
I understand your LO has extra needs but honestly when my youngest was 18 months I suddenly became aware at about 11am that he was munching on a piece of toast...which he can only have pulled out of the kitchen bin Envy (not envy) He was fine despite the bin being quite full and yucky.

LuluJakey1 · 12/10/2017 23:33

I wouldn't worry. I caught DS crawling in the kitchen and drinking from the cats' water bowl. He was fine.
