Ear piercing guns cannot be properly sterilised. This leaves you open to infection and diseases such as hep b.

I had my daughter's ears pierced at 7 years old when she had been asking for a couple of years. It was over £30. I didn't really want it done by gun as gun piercing forces relatively blunt metal through the ear whereas a needle is hollow and removes the tissue to make room for the earring. Unfortunately as a pp said, it's hard work finding a tattooist/piercer who will pierce children. So Claire's it is. A tattoo parlour is sterilised thoroughly throughout whereas the only thing sterilised at Claire's is the tip of the gun. It's an open shop and is not sterile.

Also those saying it should be your daughters decision, I don't agree with that either. My mum got mine done as soon as I was old enough and I'm so glad. (If I have a daughter, I will get hers done as soon as she's old enough, none of this wait until she can choose stuff).

Genuinely Shock at this

What's wrong with waiting until they're old enough to choose? Selfish.

Really wish my mum hadn't had my ears pierced. I was around 6ish. As soon as I was old enough to say NO! I am NOT wearing them, I did. Was a few years though. Goodness knows what my mum was thinking. I was a complete tomboy and still am. I hated earrings, and haven't worn them since.
As an aside, I don't know anyone that's had an issue with Claire's

I'm regretting not getting DD tattooed for her first birthday, and her eyebrow pieced and tongue separated. I bet she'd have totally been grateful not to have to decide to do it herself at 18.

You don't put the needle in then out and then the earring through. It's a hollow needle so you insert the jewellery through the needle and then pull the needle out leaving the jewellery in place.
Needles are much quicker and much less painful.

DD had hers done at Claire's for her 10th birthday. It was about 40 quid but I think it depends on which earrings you choose.

The good thing is they do both ears at the same time, so it's over and done with quickly, which is good as my DD is a bit squeamish.

She's had no problems at all with them.

TittyGolightly · 30/09/2017 17:04

I have a horrendous nickel allergy, I suspect from gun piecing and gold studs.

Should DD ever want her ears pierced I'll be strongly encouraging her to have stainless steel studs.

Oh god here we go again! I know this post is pretty old but for the ones saying wait till your child wants there ears done ect who are you to tell anyone what to do? It’s there child not your? Each to there own but keep your opinions to yourself :)

Lornaax · 03/07/2018 16:05

Really? Is the wane yours? What ever her mum wants to do is her choice

SadieHH · 03/07/2018 16:06

But it's ok to tell your child what to do? Bit of a double standard there...

Oh, and keep your opinions to yourself, eh?
