Been looking online at Vtec Toot Toots and I don't get it. Do you need a track ? Do they move along or do you have to push them? They have lights and sounds yes?

What is a good starter set for a 18Mth old likes animals & cars ?

Not sure I get it either Witty. Hopefully this will bump for you Smile

You have to push them along. My Sil bought Dd a set with 2 cars and a track for her 1st birthday. She loves the cars and plays with them a lot but even now a year later the track is too advanced for her. We build it and its not easy to build and she just tears the track up. They make sounds and have lights.

My 4 and 2 years old never really took to them

Ds had them but it is hard to rebuild the tracks correctly, make sure you keep the instructions. He has tons of the cars that still get played with now and he is 5. He makes random tracks of his own now and they have lasted years, good quality and well made.

They get really annoying when you are watching tv and you randomly hear one of the vehicles start singing from the bottom of the toy box.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 15/09/2017 18:50

I would just start a brio collection. Much less annoying.

MonkeyJumping · 15/09/2017 18:51

They are justcars you push along. They play annoying songs every so often, or if you push the button on the windscreen, and the windscreen lights up.

You can buy tracks, garages, police station etc. If you have these then when the cars pass over specific points on the track/building, either the car or the building (sometimes both) will be triggered to play another annoying song and flash lights.

A lot of toddlers enjoy them - roughly one year onwards - but they can't build the tracks/sets at all until they're at least 3.

The songs are very annoying, wish we'd never got any.

A classic wooden train set is just as much fun, no annoying noise and easier for the children to put together.

MonkeyJumping · 15/09/2017 18:52

Just realised I complained about the annoying songs three times in that post....they really are annoyingly noisy and nonsensical!

StorminaBcup · 15/09/2017 18:55

Don't do it! My MIL bought ds2 the tractor and it drives me round the bend.

Yes we had 4 of the sets but didn't keep the instructions and now have no idea how to build any of them - you have to get it exactly right or it doesn't work, you can't really build your own sets like you could with trains.

Discotits · 15/09/2017 18:59

We had the emergency set of three: police, fire and ambulance, the songs are genius, 'Emergency, emergency, let's go and fight the fire!'to a random tune. Never had any track but I seriously considered the garage. Try a set of three although most people can't bear the songs.

We have enormous amounts of it, my almost 3 year old has been obsessed with it for about a year. The songs are annoying, especially the garage as their isn't a volume control! He did learn to build tracks quite early on, although we just have mainly track rather than the sets.

He's getting brio for his birthday, nice and quiet I hope.

Awittyandmostunusualusername · 15/09/2017 19:12

Grinwell you've all saved me a fortune then .. ha

Go with wooden Brio. Toot Toot track is a total pain to build.

Don't do it to yourself OP. DS' police toot toot car is broken and lost at the bottom of the toy box. Every so often it spouts electronic noises and I can never find it. Argh!

Bringmewineandcake · 15/09/2017 19:20

DD1 had the emergency set too, and DD2 is just discovering them. The songs are no worse than most other kids toys. Definitely don't need the track or sets, just the vehicles will do.

Summerdays2014 · 15/09/2017 20:05

My 20 month old son loves them! He has the garage, the speedy race car ramp and the train. The train is different to the other sets as the train has batteries and goes round by itself!

MonkeyJumping · 15/09/2017 20:36

You can get battery operated trains for the wooden train sets if you want :)

Runlovingmummy81 · 15/09/2017 20:42

Where abouts are you? I have some you can have!

Everytimeref · 15/09/2017 20:45

My grandson loves the toot toot garage.

MonkeyJumping · 15/09/2017 20:50

Most toddlers love the toot toot stuff, but it's v annoying for grown ups

Bubblysqueak · 15/09/2017 20:53

They are brilliant we bought our first set when ds1 was 2 and we are still using them and he's nearly 6. Both dc play with them every day. We have the garage, construction site and railway station and 2 sets of extra track and extra cars to stop fighting. Best buy ever!

KadabrasSpoon · 15/09/2017 20:54

I was about to reply about the songs but seems I'm not the only one suffering Grin

"I fight the fire, save people with the ladder. Quick quick quick on the way to fight the big fiiiiiiiiiiiiiire"

Don't do it OP!
