What do you do with your toddler when you have a shower?!

Sounds like such a simple problem. We have recently moved to a quite large house where before we were in a small place with no stAirs. I'm scared of her falling down stairs, out of windows, in to the pond or encountering another hazard. She can open stairgates.
I also have a baby who would like to nap around the time I would shower but couldn't today due to screaming toddler.

I used to shower the toddler at the same time. So just pop her on the floor of the shower with me!

HopeAndJoy16 · 17/08/2017 10:22

Can you shower with your toddler? Just put some toys in the cubicle and let her play while you shower? I know my niece loves a shower as a treat, although the novelty would wear off if you were doing it every day. Shower when your partner is around?

fluffywallow · 17/08/2017 10:23

I lock her in the bathroom with me - so far she's not figured out how to unlock the door!

Either in the shower/bathroom with me or in her cot with a few toys /music and both doors open (DS is normally around when I do this though and plays games with her)

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2017 10:26

Get up and shower before she wakes?
Shower at night when she is in bed?
Shower when someone else is in?
Take her in with you?
Don't shower...:o

OK bad mum alert: mines still in a crib, so i put him in the crib and put cbeebies on the laptop. Used to just leave him with toys in the crib but it got very screamy very fast.

InDubiousBattle · 17/08/2017 10:32

I either:
-shower before they get up or before dp goes to work so he watches them

  • get everything ready, nip down and put film on followed by quick shower (mine can't open stair gates yet)
-they go in the bath whilst I shower.
silkybear · 17/08/2017 10:33

I have a bouncer seat that she still fits in so she sits down there while i have a 3 min shower then I shower her and do her teeth. New baby due soon though so not sure what then. Maybe two bouncy chairs next to each other!

IDoDaChaCha · 17/08/2017 10:34

badabing36 perfectly safe. If they can sleep in a cot they can chill in a cot for a few minutes.

Scoleah · 17/08/2017 10:35

I put mine in his high chair in the bathroom with me, and put toys on the tray to keep him occupied!

NerrSnerr · 17/08/2017 10:35

I like to bath or shower in peace so I usually wait until my husband gets home, or I'll wait until the baby is sleeping and bath with my toddler.

silkybear · 17/08/2017 10:36

Actually found it easier to give her a quick shower after me in the mornings then doing a bath every night. Saves alot of time.

2014newme · 17/08/2017 10:37

I used to shower before mine got up

GlitteryFluff · 17/08/2017 10:38

I always shower in the evening when DS is in bed or once DH gets home from work.
I don't mind being in a different room to him for 5 mins but it's the fact I can't hear what he's doing when I'm in the shower that makes me worry.

Wildestflower · 17/08/2017 10:40

Shower with toddler. Lock her in bathroom with me and lots of waterproof bath toys or duplo/ sticklebricks.

Playpen,

or make one room really toddlerproof and put a gate across the door

or bring toddler into bathroom with you

or shower at different times (ideally when both DC asleep).

I'd recommend the first two, because there will be occasions other than when you want a shower when you need to contain toddler safely for a while whilst you have to do something else.

SarahJonesS · 17/08/2017 10:44

My 2 year old hasn't worked out how to climb out of the cot yet so she goes in there with the iPad on the side set up for peppa pig.

SnowWhite33 · 17/08/2017 11:16

I just say "mummy is going to take a shower" and go take a shower.
My son normally plays in the living room, then at some point he always comes into a bathroom and brings his toys. Then goes back and forth bringing in more toys.
Been doing that since he was about 1,5-2years old.
We have gates to go upstairs and ground floor is all considerably safe. When he was younger and in his "exploring" stage, i would just bring him and some toys with me into the bathroom.

MinkowskisButterfly · 17/08/2017 11:40

I put mine (2.5yrs) in the travel cot which we use as a playpen and put children's tv on. It only takes me 15 mins to shower and she can't yet climb out so I know she is safe.

Ecureuil · 17/08/2017 11:43

Mine are 3 and just 2, I just leave the door open and leave them playing in their bedroom. They come running in and out usually.

EyeDrops · 17/08/2017 11:55

My 2 year old can't open the stairgate yet, so I just bring her upstairs, make sure that's shut and let her potter around. She usually sits with books/toys and wanders in and out, and I'm only 5-10 mins. Or I put a CBeebies episode on the iPad for her which will keep her still!

BertieBotts · 17/08/2017 11:56

Stairgates or do it when they are sleeping!

Gillian1980 · 17/08/2017 11:59

My dd has just turned 2. I try to shower before she wakes in the morning or after she's gone to bed.
If I can't then I sit her in her high chair in the bathroom with toys or a video on my iPad.

I can't let her loose as our house isn't toddler-friendly at all. And she hates showers so that's not really an option.

Spudlet · 17/08/2017 12:04

I have a little box of toys that live out of reach in the bathroom, so I get those down and lock him in with me. Toilet lid has a lock on it so nothing can go down there. CBeebies usually also playing on the iPad. It generally works ok until he decides to play peepo around the shower curtain 🙄
