Baby Led Rearing - do you do it?

I am currently writing a book on the new method of baby led rearing. This is where you rear your child according to their wants and needs. So for example, if baby wants to put their head in the dog's bowl, we allow it as they need to find out what is acceptable or not for themselves. We, as parents, as just the observers in this scenario that is life. Baby finds out what is good and not so good by exploring for themselves. They decide when to eat and when to sleep and we are led by their decisions.

Any questions?

What about routine?

LucyJones · 22/03/2007 12:40

fab idea. I was getting stressed that my baby wanted to sleep all day and be awake all night.
Think I will just go with it.
Also my nearly 3 year old keeps running across runs without looking.... will let him learn the consequences of his actions...

MY babies have led my rear to be huge does that count?

Rhubarb · 22/03/2007 12:45

ROUTINE!

That is not a word we like to use here at the BLR!

mmmm.... sounds like this could really lead to some probs when later on, the parents need to put their foot down about something. Agree on learning from own mistakes, but a baby needs a little more guidance and structure in life.

littleEasterlapin · 22/03/2007 12:47

You are a very very bad pink vegetable!

franca70 · 22/03/2007 12:47

lol ledodgy!

bundle · 22/03/2007 12:48

and don't eat rhuby's leaves, they're poisonous.

zippitippitoes · 22/03/2007 12:48

how much food should i keep in the fridge as he likes to take it all out and dump it on the kitchen floor sometimes having the odd bite here and there or putting it in the bin

Hillary · 22/03/2007 12:49

Whats the point in parents then?

Is it not for us to guide them thats crazy & dangerous!

Ivor · 22/03/2007 12:52

Excellent idea, fruit shoots all round

littleEasterlapin · 22/03/2007 12:54

Hillary, I suspect the pink one is taking the p*ss... BLR... BLW...

Rhubarb · 22/03/2007 12:55

Oh no Hillary, babies guide us now, didn't you know? They let us know when they are hungry or sleepy and we are led by their actions. It's the most natural way to raise your child.

zippi, I would keep a selection of babies' favourite foods in the frige for him to dip in and out of. If he empties the fridge then it is up to you to put it all back my dear! Don't be lazy!

Are you bored today, Rhubs?!

piglit · 22/03/2007 12:58

Ooh, can I join? It'll save me so much hassle with discipline and all that nonsense. Does it mean I can not bother with potty training - I just let the dses poo all over the house. And can I leave the TV on all day? They'll just turn it off when they've had enough. Is that right?

Bloody marvellous.

Hillary · 22/03/2007 12:58

I thought babies drove us into despair!

quadrophenia · 22/03/2007 12:58

Rhuby you are norty

pupuce · 22/03/2007 12:58

so how does that fit with elimination communication then?

quadrophenia · 22/03/2007 12:58

piglit I suspect that you don't use nappies at all and potty train from birth

pupuce · 22/03/2007 13:00

Quadro that sort of what EC is!

piglit · 22/03/2007 13:00

Of course! How silly of me.

WaynettanEasterEgg · 22/03/2007 13:00

oooh yes - no longer shall I get annoyed when DS1 comes into my room at 6am (on a Saturday fgs) and clambers on top of me and demands to watch television. instead of trying to reason with him I shall jump out of bed, turn on his favourite programmes and give him chocolate for breakfast! Happy baby = happy mummy!!!

NotanOtter · 22/03/2007 13:01
