How do you bathe your DC??

I know it sounds like an odd question, but I really want to know... I mean the actual process.
Here's why I am asking... When DS was little, he had one of those baby baths that would fit into our big bath. That way I didn't have to faff around filling up the big bath. Just filled up the small one, add soap, scrub DS with a washcloth and when done, hose him with the shower to get all the soap off.

Now that he no longer fits into the small tub, he goes directly into the big one. It takes ages to fill! So I only fill it a couple of inches so that DS has some water to sit in.. I don't actually add any soap in the water. I take a washcloth, wet it, put a few drops of soap on it and scrub DS. Then I let out all the dirty water and wash him him again to get all the soap off. I may fill the tub again if he wants to have a bit of a splash around.

While at a friend's place I saw her put her DC in a bathtub full of bubbles, let them splash around for a bit and then just took them out and wiped them. No rinsing off the soap.. No washcloth. It seemed so much easier! That got me thinking if I have been doing it wrong all this time Confused

Inputs please.

TIA Smile

Sometimes I rinse DD with a jug of warm water.

JustMumNowNotMe · 09/06/2017 19:32

You need a bath divider! I'll get you a link hang on

moggle · 09/06/2017 19:33

I mostly do what you do but I just rinse her off with the "dirty " water. It's really not very dirty. However she's 2.5 now so I do usually make the bath more like 6" deep so I guess that dilutes the dirt a bit more! Sometimes I use the shower to rinse her but usually just a big plastic jug.
I do sometimes put bubbles in but I still use a cloth or sponge to properly wash her, especially her bum. She often still has cream put on her bum and it's usually still there if i just let her sit in the bath.

How old is he? I often used to have a bath with mine, to make it worth filling it up properly. I've always gone for the bubbles and splash around option.

Ecureuil · 09/06/2017 19:35

Put them in the bath, wash them then rinse it off with the same water they're sitting in. Sounds a bit of a faff refilling the bath!

This is brill, used it for 2 years for my 2 year old and now new baby too xx

Why do you let out all the water half way through and fill it again? That's really making it hard for yourself!

My DS has very sensitive skin and eczema, so we don't use any soap at all. Just water in the tub, he runs around and has some nappy off time while it fills up. Stick him in, let him play for 10 mins or so, I give him a wipe over with a flannel, done.

bigredboat · 09/06/2017 19:37

A few inches of bubbly water, splash about for a bit, flannel into the water then wipe all over, jug to wet hair, shampoo, rinse hair using jug of fresh water, out of the bath and spray leave in conditioner and brush. I use a gentle bubble bath (Childs farm).

museumum · 09/06/2017 19:39

I do it like your friend.
What do you do when you bathe? Do you fill it a sexual bf time with clean water? I certainly don't. I soak for a bit, scrub all over then get out. Same with ds.

NoCapes · 09/06/2017 19:43

museum that typo! Grin!!

OP you're making it very hard for yourself Confused just put child in water, bubbly or not, scrub or not, get them out
I've never known anyone empty and refill half way through, do you do this during your own baths?

elQuintoConyo · 09/06/2017 19:43

Tiny square bath here. About 10" of water (quick to fill) with bubbles. Splash about, flannel all over, wash hair, rinse with jugs of bath water. Get out.

If we're pushed for time he has a shower - honestly i prefer them. I find bathtime an absolute ballache.

There's no way i'd be changing water halfway through.

neversleepagain · 09/06/2017 19:44

I fill the bath 3/4 full and squirt bath soap straight into the water. Plop 4 year olds in. Let them play. Wash their faces and behind their ears with a flannel. Drain bath and remove 4 year olds.

LockedOutOfMN · 09/06/2017 19:45

They're 5 and 8. They shower themselves with shower gel. One of us helps 5 yr old with washing her hair and one of us will be floating around in the bathroom or close by while they're showering.

MrsPringles · 09/06/2017 19:49

DS is nearly 3, he gets chucked in a shallow bath with bubbles and lots of plastic toys.

He plays for a bit and then I wash his hair, brush his teeth and give him a wash over with a flannel.

Out, wrapped in a towel like a baby burrito and I sniff his head as it smells like the Johnsons shampoo and it's like the newborn days Grin

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 09/06/2017 19:50

Fill bath about 2/3 with water and soap, put kids in, wash hair and rinse with jug, scrub with flannel then play around a bit.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 09/06/2017 19:53

Full bath a few inches with a few drops of matey for bubbles. Stick DS (11mth) in for a splash. Give him a rub with a flannel then wash his hair and rinse off with the bath water. He gets in the bath pretty much every day so the water is never actually dirty. Couldn't be arsed farting about with refilling it.

NSEA · 09/06/2017 19:55

There are good types of bubble bath that is also a soap, so the water leaves them clean even if you have a night of scrubbing. I clean mine like yours 1-2 times a week. Other nights its a shallow bubble bath and splashing!

Lollyb86 · 09/06/2017 19:55

Fill bath about half full put some bubbles in and toua. DD 3 plays for ages. I remind her to wash her face, arms, legs, bum etc (cue giggles 😁) take her out and put in poncho towel.

NSEA · 09/06/2017 19:55

Off scrubbing

Lollyb86 · 09/06/2017 19:55

Toys not toua

NerrSnerr · 09/06/2017 20:22

Mines 2.5. I fill bath half full with bubbles and toys. She splashes and plays for a while. We have a quick hair and body wash then a longer play.

bobblyorangerug · 09/06/2017 20:26

Fill the big bath with water and bubble bath

DD goes in has a splash around, wash with shampoo and soap on a sponge

Rinse off using a jug with bath water (it isn't dirty)

Play a bit more

Get out

Sparrowlegs248 · 09/06/2017 20:29

Ds1 is not quite 2. He has a bath every night, with some infantry bubbles in. It's about 6 inches deep. He sits and plays, then stands up so we can soap him up with some Aveeno wash. I use hands for this. Then rinse him off with his watering can and flannel. Then sits and plays a but more. No showering, no extra water. He's not really all that dirty!

chelseapritch · 09/06/2017 20:32

Ds is 2 1/2, I usually fill the bath half way, out bubbles in and some of his bath toys, let him have a play, give him a wash with the sponge, wash his hair, rinse off any bubbles with the sponge then all done, I usually let the bath out while he's still in it as he hates getting out if there's still water in lol. But I agree 're running the bath seem a bit of a task and totally pointless x

DubiousCredentials · 09/06/2017 20:39

I don't think I've ever scrubbed my dc Confused. I did it like your friend. Maybe a jug of clean water to rinse hair at the end.
