What container do you put your baby in?

DS is 5 months. Not yet sitting but rolling well. I have a seat in the kitchen on the worktop similar to the picture attached but he's started trying to roll out of it.

How do I even begin to contain him in the kitchen now? I have a bumbo and a highchair but don't really like him seated for too long and he really likes to be able to sit and watch DH cook.

Any recommendations lovely people of MN? Many thanks

I've just realised my error - I don't mind him laying back for a longer period of time but am not sure about forcing him into a seated position for a period of time.

Kitchen isn't really big enough for a travel cot/play pen

Does he need to be in the kitchen with you? We would leave DS in living room on mat, he was good at rolling but we could baby proof around him!

Eek, don't put a baby seat on the worktop!

Put the baby seat on the floor. DD was perfectly happy there as long as she could see me. Putting a baby seat on a worktop seems rather dangerous to me.

DancingLedge · 06/06/2017 18:23

Huge old fashioned pram. Room for toys, and brings them close to your waist level

DoubleCarrick · 06/06/2017 18:23

He's been ok thus far as a little un but he is getting dangerous now. This is my question - what to do? Smile He quite likes the company as is very chatty and enjoys watching wat is going on

I'd just go for a high chair. At 5 months he'll be sitting up by himself in a few weeks if he isn't already. You can put some toys on the tray as well then.

jacketej · 06/06/2017 18:27

The floor is fine in my opinion, my little one started crawling at 7 months so did him no harm. A good comfy play mat works wonders

skyzumarubble · 06/06/2017 18:28

Just out the chair on the floor? Mine loved sitting in their chairs with a wooden spoon or something to entertain them if I was cooking

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 06/06/2017 18:28

Regular tupperware...

Sorry, couldn't resist when I saw the title. And no serious answer because my baby is 18 years old.

I'll get my coat.

Alittlepotofrosie · 06/06/2017 18:28

Jumperoo? High chair?

DrSpin · 06/06/2017 18:29

Please don't put him on the worktop! Mat on floor, high chair or jumparoo would work?

DoubleCarrick · 06/06/2017 18:30

Does anyone have any links for any decent play mats which could go on a hard cold floor? I'm thinking I might just use the highchair but his tolerance is quite limited for that as he just wants feeding when he's in there

Just put him on the floor.

DoubleCarrick · 06/06/2017 18:31

Thankyou all for your continued lectures on not putting him on the worktop - I've already stated that now he's moving he is now coming off the worktop. Cheers to those with advice Smile

I really don't think a work top is a very good idea op! My dc have always had a play mat on the floor either in the kitchen away from me (we have a kitchen diner so no where near the actual cooking bit!) Or in the livingroom and Id keep popping back every minute or 2 to check on him possibly use a baby monitor with camera ?

FATEdestiny · 06/06/2017 18:34

I thought tupperwear too

defo not Pyrex, that's made of glass

OP - don't put a bouncer on a raised surface.

Most bouncers like the one you posted have two positions - reclined and sat up. You perhaps done realise because you have to completely take it apart to swap between reclined and say up, but it is doable. Take the cover off and see if you can see screw fittings.

That said - if just leave baby on the floor in the living room. Baby should be fine with you popping in and out as you cook.

In the kitchen I used a high chair, but baby at this age wasn't all that interested in sitting in it all that long. Much rather be rolling around teaching for toys on the floor.

FATEdestiny · 06/06/2017 18:35

Crossed post op, sorry for tge continued lecture on putting bouncer on worktop.

koalab · 06/06/2017 18:37

We have foam mats for the hard floor. The ones they always have at baby groups and link like a jigsaw. Then the play mat on top.

DoubleCarrick · 06/06/2017 18:38

DS loves nothing more than to sit and watch dh cook. AND HE IS COMING OFF THE WORKTOP. This is the point of my thread. I want him in the kitchen watching the cooking as he enjoys it and am after links for alternative suggestions.

I love MN and anyone that recognises my username not that I think anyone will will realise that I don't get shirty and am rarely unreasonable but my god this thread has pissed me off Grin

Cross post with welsh!

welshweasel · 06/06/2017 18:41

DS also liked sitting in the high chair at that age. We've got be Ikea one which you can get an inflatable insert for so holds them snug. We had a suction toy that stuck onto the tray and amused him for ages.

MrsSeverusSnape · 06/06/2017 18:41

The Close pop in playmat is lovely and thick. It comes in lots of nice prints too.

firawla · 06/06/2017 18:53

I also have a 5 month old and we had a seat like this in the kitchen floor, but she was constantly rolling out of it so I've got rid and got the ikea highchair with the added insert while she's still quite little, working okay so far
