What container do you put your baby in?

DS is 5 months. Not yet sitting but rolling well. I have a seat in the kitchen on the worktop similar to the picture attached but he's started trying to roll out of it.

How do I even begin to contain him in the kitchen now? I have a bumbo and a highchair but don't really like him seated for too long and he really likes to be able to sit and watch DH cook.

Any recommendations lovely people of MN? Many thanks

All decided then - I'm going to give it a go having the highchair in the kitchen and stick his seat in the loft. Failing that, I'm going to buy a foam mat and then a play mat for the floor. I'm not convinced that having him lay on the floor is the best as DH seems to make an awful mess when cooking.

Thank you all. And he celebrated turning five months today by sitting up unaided just a few minutes ago Smile

We bought a second hand baby bjornbouncer which is bigger than the usual ones. Mine are still in it at 8 months. The best thing about it is that they can bounce themselves in it, which provides hours of entertainment.

Lol I also thought tupperware!

I was gonna suggest a folded up duvet on the floor, with a few wooden spoons, plastic boxes and the like and a few wee toys.
I do feel the floor is better for them to help develop their muscles at that age, thus helping them build the muscles necessary to help them roll and sit up. I did have a a Jumperoo and a baby walker and they were useful when ds was a bit older.

Propped up in the laundry basket is fine. It's so short a time between sitting and crawling that a specific chair really isnt necessary. Just wait til he is pulling himself up on the drawers and catching his fingers in them eleventy-zillion times a day... fun!

My DD could climb out of her baby Bjorn bouncer well before 8 months and she never figured out how to bounce it herself.

Interlocking EVA foam mats are light and easy to move, even a large cheap shower mat will be fine!

Dd used to like sitting in her high chair watching. If she got a bit aggy then I'd give her something to play with. It doesn't have to be anything interesting, a wooden spoon at 5 months was a good 10 minutes of entertainment!

Or dried pasta in a small Tupperware kept dd happy. She'd either shake it to death making loads of noise. Or empty it out on the tray and she used to put it back in the pot or more likely on the floor.
