Potty Training help

My 2 year old DS2, doesnt have any inclination about potty training.

He sits ith me all the time in the loo, and knows what I am doing, yet shows no signs of potty training

He will walk about for ages with no clothes on, but as soon as I put on pants he wees in them.

Should I wait for him to give me a sign or should I push him a little.

He will sit on the potty for ages, but refuses to do anything

Jiz28 just wanted to add - maybe wait untill you have a few days when your not as busy, so can concentrate on it abit more.
Im lucky in a way as i was able to put everything on hold for a few mornings.
Also i had some spare carpet that i was about to bin so i put that in the front room incase of any acceidents - and you know what.... the few misses DD did have, they were on the extra carpet.....lucky eh
Good luck [grin

LadyOfTheFlowers · 22/03/2007 23:44

just out of interest what are the signs?
ds1 is 20m and will sit on the potty but will not do anything.
he wants his nappy off if he needs a poo or if he can, will take it off himself and then poo....
he is also terribly interested in his poo which has had horrendous results! lol

d'ya think he's ready?

Hello, I think he might be.
You could always start with just the poo's.....i mean say to him when he needs to poo do it on the potty or tell me (meaning you lol) then take him to the big loo. Then when he gets used to that then try the wee's.
Im a beliver of diving in head 1st when it comes to the wee's - i think training nappies confuse them, just go for it.

With my DD i started with the poo's 1st. It was when she was a few mths old at bath time, she kept pooing in the bath so i would quickly put her on the loo to do it, when i could catch her in time. Later on she would point to the loo at bath time or when we were upstares. Then it changed to when we were downstares also, then out of the blue over the course of 2 or 3 days she kepted wanting to go the the big loo more and more but it was for wee's also. So i bought these 2 ebooks, 2 pottys, lots of loo roll & lots of different drinks (see ebook) and just went for it. I'll email you the ebooks if you want you can CAT me if you dont want to put your email on here.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 23/03/2007 00:07

that would be nice.
i wasnt sure if he was ready and i didnt want to start too early as that can have a negative effect i believe? i heard that somewhere.
i am eager to get him started anyway!

I'll Email you now hun

My DD was 17mths when she was dry I think it really helped that we started the poo bit early. I didnt think of potty training when i did it , i was just fed up with cutting baths short cause she poo'd in it, oh and steralising the toys (soz sure i spelt it wrong)

mysterymachine · 26/03/2007 12:46

My HV has suggested I start potty training my DS now - he is 2 next week. He doesn't give any indication that he is doing anything in his nappy and doesn't use a lot of words either. How would potty training work when he doesn't have the vocabulary?

MagicalMay, could you e-mail me the book as well please.

Well, we started with our hopes up high and the potty training offensive was a disaster ... our 2.5yo showed every signs to be ready but the only wees we actually caught in the potty were by sheer luck. We followed the rules in magicalmay's book religiously, never got upset (or rather didn't make obvious!). 2 days of this and she's back into nappies today. She's obviously not ready, we'll try again before the birth of dd2 in June. The whole experience was a nightmare so not looking forward to go through that again ...

mysterymachine · 26/03/2007 14:53

You're putting me off now - I was thinking of having a go over Easter weekend whilst I'm not at work but am having second thoughts after reading your message PPP

MagicalMay · 27/03/2007 01:40

Every DD/DS is differernt, im sorry it didnt work out for you this time PPP. Dont loose faith, she'll be ready when shes ready.
mysterymachine - My DD has only just started this mth to kind of talk. It was pointing and er noises (as they do)
Honest to god this Sat (24th) was the 1st time she has said 'wee wee'. It was a certian 'er' she done that i reconised before.

thank you so much in advance !!! xxx

canarygirl · 01/05/2007 21:15

Thanks magical may - with help of your books my dd is now trained. It took two days (couldn't do the complete focus thing as have a 7 month old to look after too) and it worked a treat. DD did lead the way by asking for pants which helped and three weeks on she is dry during the day and waking in the morning and asking for the potty first thing - hooray !!

BadZelda · 01/05/2007 21:51

magical may I would love your e-books: blameless at badzelda dot com - cheers!

claire dot bown at ferventsoftware dot com

Quite tricky though as I have 8 week old twins to look after too!!

henners · 03/05/2007 21:06

Just started potty training dd is 2 1/2 and desperate to be trained, always asking to do wee on potty & then doing it! Keeps asking for pants etc! Bought pants yesterday, all fine, only 1 accident today but will not do poo! Farting like a trooper but keeps saying she won't do poo! Am worried about constipation! She hasn't been since Tuesday & is a regular 24 hour girl! Any hints?

mamma2kids · 03/05/2007 21:14

This thread has given me renewed potty enthusiasm. Started with DD yesterday but gave up as she weed 5 times in 2hrs (none on the potty) then DS complained his sock was wet as he'd stepped in the wee. It was too much to bare. D'you think I should try again? I can't wait to get rid of nappies.

Shoshable · 03/05/2007 21:19

Posted this on another thread today, been using this meathod for 26 odd years as a CM

Day 1 - 3 no clothes, ask if they want the potty, at least every 1/2 hour. Expect lots of accidents.

Day 4-7 Providing child is now making it to the potty, pants on, still reminding, first couple of days will result in wet pants, but by day 7, usually making it to the potty.

Day 7 onwards trousers on as well, still asking often, take potty EVERYWHERE with you.

If this doesn't work, would say the child isn't ready. Have done it with children from 20 months - 4 years, they are ready when they are ready, boys in general are later than girls, but saying that just had a boy dry at 22 months and a girl not till almost 4. !

mamma2kids · 03/05/2007 21:28

Thanks. Good advice.

twobabies · 04/05/2007 13:36

Hi MagicalMay,
i'm a dad with a little two and 3 month DS, would love an e copy of the book. ([email protected])..he's just at the right point I recon..but I'm struggling a bit. Thanks

Arriety · 04/05/2007 17:19

Hi MagicalMay please could I also get a copy of the books? [email protected]. Thank you very much.

twobabies · 07/05/2007 23:11

Shoshable, thought your method looked really good, can I ask when you say ask if they want the potty do you mean actually saying do you want the potty, without actually putting them on it or can you put them on the potty every 1/2 hour and say do you need a wee.

I have been putting dd on the potty every 1/2 to an hour for the last two days and she goes nearly every time with no accidents /barebummed/ is this what you mean. Please excuse the lack of question marks, brackets my shift key isn't working.

Thanks in advance

LouBudd · 09/05/2007 20:26

Hi,

I have been reading all of your postings and it seems that magicalmay has a great source for potty training.
My ds 26 mths was an angel for our first day of potty trainig yesterday with all wee's and poo's in the potty bar one accident. Today has been horrendous with wee everywhere and him refusing to go on the potty. Maybe I'm doing something wrong cause he has shown all the signs for being ready.
Would love a copy of the ebook for potty training or would love to know where to get it from.
Thanks in advance
