TBH best way to heal it is a bare bum!

CarGirl · 14/03/2007 20:19

can't think what it's called - the yellow one - stains your clothes but it sticks to their bum........also sprilon spray which is for bed sores expensive but very good and you don't have to touch their bottom to apply it.

metanium!

If it's teething then try him on teething powders they help make the wee less acidic, so bottom gets less sore

wurlywurly · 14/03/2007 20:21

bepanthen, always found it fantastic.

thanks girls have made a note and will go to boots tomorrow. poor lamb.

cargirl - we've tried them b4 but he had explosive nappies - but I guess that's a small price to pay if he has a better bum iycwim. will get some of those as well to see if that helps at all.

try not to use baby wipes if you can help it they always seem to make it worse.

CarGirl · 14/03/2007 20:33

oh yes - no baby wipes - cotton wool (or washable wipe) and water. For yucky nappies when you dig out your baby wipes rinse off with cotton wool & water afterwards!

satinshoes · 14/03/2007 20:34

defo metanium

Bucketsofdynomite · 14/03/2007 20:35

Washable wipes soaked in water with a drop of Oilatum bath oil (use a lunchbox, ice cream tub or Pampers wipe box).

PestoMonster · 14/03/2007 20:37

I tore my hair out with dd1's sore bottom. Tried various creams and metanium was the best of the bunch, but it wouldn't actually clear it up. In the end my HV suggested leaving the nappy off during the day and painting her bot with egg white. Amazingly, this worked! I think it may have had something to do with enzymes. You let it dry on and it sort of protects it. Do it after you've cleaned up using just cotton wool & water. Don't use baby wipes.

Good Luck!

recoveringmum · 14/03/2007 20:42

I use Weleda Calendula nappy cream. It is natural and it works amazingly to clear up red bum that sudocrem doesnt clear up.

PizPizPiz · 15/03/2007 09:38

Another vote for weleda. You can get it online.

kittypants · 15/03/2007 15:56

question abot egg whites-could you put it on over night?were having trouble too.gp prescribed canesten hc cream but not worked,we tried sudacrem which is very drying apparently ,then matanium(sp?)with no joy!.dh wants to use disposables.
ive heard about bottom butter but where do you buy it?

Bucketsofdynomite · 15/03/2007 16:07

Have seen some Weleda products in big Sainsburys, not sure if this specific one.

talcyone · 15/03/2007 16:18

Drapolene?

cornsilk · 15/03/2007 16:20

Didn't try this on nappy rash as didn't know about it then, but 8 hour cream is fantastic on dry skin and burns. I use it on ds when he gets eczema on knees and it's great on chapped lips

hex · 15/03/2007 21:35

What's 8 hr cream? and where do you buy it?

Naomee · 15/03/2007 21:56

I also use Welleda callendula - and washable wipes, really works and I won't use anything else.

You can sometimes pick it up in independent health food stores.

Busybean · 15/03/2007 22:00

SUCOCREM= magic cream! seriously, you cant get anything better, apply liberally and regulary and it will be gone in a matter of hours
Make sure area is dry before applying also if poss get soem cotton wool pleats and use that and water to wipe bum with

Washersaurus · 15/03/2007 22:10

I also recommend using washable wipes with water (very occasionally have added a dash of oilatum for moisture). Where suducrem fails I use metanium which usually does the trick.

I am always asking people this, but...have you tried silk liners in nappies?

That lovely bottom butter comes from waitrose - not sure if would be any good for a really sore bum though, I have used it more as a nice preventative measure.

kittypants · 16/03/2007 10:17

are silk liners really really worth the expense then?im still plucking up courage to try the egg whites!

Washersaurus · 16/03/2007 11:02

I have to admit I have only had to resort to silk liners on a couple of occasions and they have seemed to help soothe DS' sore bottom - worth having around IMO
