Hello my ds is 17 weeks and realising we have a long slog of naps ahead of us i really want to give reusables a go. They seem expensive to get going so i want to try first really through the day to see how easy they are to get away with and how we get on. I have some m care vouchers so thought would check there goods out but looking at kushies and bambino mio and i am confused about what exactly i need and what it entails. Want it to be an easy straight fwd experience so my Dh doesnt poo poo the idea (pardon the pun!). Advise on sizes and all aspects would be apreciated and i can didtch the mcare voucehers if theres somewhere cheaper to shop for em ebay recommendations etc.... Thankyou

I didn?t get on with Bambino Mio either ? dd has always been slim and we had mucho leakage! Got totally disheartened with the whole thing and have been using disposables ever since (nearly 2 years ? gah!!) I like the look of the Tots Bots, especially with the comments on this thread. Would they work with my (still in their fecking wrappers) Bambino wraps?

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 11:27

Should do, yup

Songbird · 08/03/2007 11:30

Thanks, I might just give it a go!

Mish, it is expensive as you have to buy them now rather than over the course of 2-3+ years. However, on a preg mag I saw last week there was an offer for a year's worth of Huggies (note ONE YEAR, not ALL NAPPIES) valued at £1,000!!! It really adds up, one pack of sposies a week or whatever.

Over the course of your nappying you save a fortune - and they're free other than washing for other babies!

I wouldn't recommend a birth to potty nappy at this stage as they're not known for fitting well through to toddlerhood, and really they're therefore only worth it if you also get the smaller end of use. That said, they're very good!! And you can use them on your next...

I would go for 2-size nappies, eg Tots Bots, Bambineo, or many others, and get the size 2 nappies, which will take you through.

Songbird - yes they will work fine.

MAC - which size 2 velcros would you recommend for a 16lb baby? DS is only just coming up to 20lb now and his old style wbb is still too big on the waist (obv not an issue with the bambineos and longer outside tab). His size 2 velcro at that weight swamped him and needed folding down and nippa-ing.

mish2 · 08/03/2007 13:32

Hello makesachange - there wont be anymore so for my sons needs alone. My friend just been round and she uses happy heiny and fuzzi bunz but i aint heard if these.... american i think... anyone know of suppliers?

Although even with the longer tab it would have still been far too high on the rise

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 13:37

I do fuzzis (but not through shop), I think I had a happy heinies once - loved it, but never found any more!

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 13:38

Oh no, just googled, mine was something different

Songbird · 08/03/2007 14:29

With the Tots Bots, what are the pros and cons for aplix or non-aplix? If I'm using them with my Bambino covers which are already quite bulky around the velcro area, will there be too much bulk with the aplix?

AnAngelWithin · 08/03/2007 14:32

the velcro isnt that bulky imo. its easier for dads to use than the nippas as well which is a bonus! lol

MrsWaggsnapps · 08/03/2007 14:36

SB - I must admit I find the velcro bulky, esp. if it's velcro + velcro (I would usually use an airflow wrap with velcro Tots) and Nippas were invented by a dad and aren't that bad.

To confuse you even more you could go for poppers (bamboozles or fluffles only, I think), which you can nippa too.

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 14:39

I find it bulky - but then I don't like velcro wraps or nappies.. I'm a nippa popper girly.

Songbird · 08/03/2007 15:38

Well, I've done it, just ordered one Rainbow Bots to try out (couldn't resist the colours!) from Nappymania (is that one of you?). I've gone for the non-aplix one with a nippa. Thanks ladies, and wish me luck!

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/03/2007 15:44

Out of interest how do you nippa a poppered fluffle?? I'm finding them a little hard 2 manage on my 3 month old.

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 16:01

lol - nappymania is neither of us

Why are you nippa-ing a poppered fluffle? You just do it like you would normally - latch on one side, stretch across to the other and hook on, then pull down and hook the middle bit. You just have to make sure you avoid the poppers when hooking

accessorizewithbabysick · 08/03/2007 16:16

Just thought if I nippad them, they might fit a bit better (size 2's, he's a little small for them).

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 16:22

Oh yes, fold down the front a bit then, and nippa as normal

mish2 · 08/03/2007 17:07

thanks for all your help i have decided to go with the happy heinys pocket filler types, they come with fillers but any extra advice on fillers just pile it on....

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 17:08

You found em then

mish2 · 08/03/2007 18:03

i ment they dont come with fillers

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 19:10

I'm lost... do they come with inserts or not?

mish2 · 08/03/2007 19:51

NOT! and there are like azillion choices - quick dryign, comfy and super absorbant but not too bulky are my wants for them!! oh and cheap!

OP posts:
mish2 · 08/03/2007 19:58

i want the world - oh and someone to come round and do my washing and drying, change my sons bum, make my dhs tea and my daughters, clean the loo - i could go on!!!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/03/2007 20:12

lmao - right. First question... where are you getting the actual nappies?
