Kiss your baby

Hi, I have an 8 month old daughter and sometime I give her a little peck on the lips if we are playing and laughing.

Is it wrong to kiss your child on the lips? I know 100% I don't have any viruses or nasties and I know that from a certain age it becomes inappropriate.

I used to kiss both my parents on the lips this stopped when I was about 8.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't view it as sexual but as I suffer from coldsores I wouldn't kiss a baby on the lips.

This is weird. Which Drs think it's inappropriate? And what bizarre kind of dr doesn't recognise the difference between 'good' and 'bad' bacteria. (Re. The mouth having more 'germs' than a loo seat comment.)

It is weird that anyone would find it sexual. That is weird and says more about those individuals. If you don't want to, fine. But sexual? Jeez.

How about kissing on the knees? Is that ok? Because yesterday I kissed DH on - among other places - his knees. It was part of extended foreplay before a rather steamy shag. Thing is, it's about context, isn't it? When I kiss my babies, I'm not thinking anything remotely sexual - I'm kissing them because they're just delicious. I'm agog that any weirdo actually needs that explaining to them. Hmm

If I can't kiss on the lips should I also not nibble his chunky thighs??

Momma absolutely not. A light pat on the head will suffice if physical contact is deemed absolutely necessary. But don't overdo it. You don't want to turn your children into hippies.

Yeah momma are you some kind of pervert? Grin

he is amost 2 now loves giving kisses, comes running and gives a big wet snotty kiss on my lips with a huge smile. Absolutely love it, and i personally think there is something wrong with people who think it is wrong

Anyone who thinks kissing your baby on their mouth is wrong is sick in the head. OF COURSE it's ok!

I must agree with that. But I come from a family of kissers. And so do my kids now, mwahahah.

I kiss my 6 yo & 8 yo on the lips. I only aim for cheeks when they are snotty and gross (or when I am, for that matter!).

It will stop when they go off it. Big dd isn't massively kissy, but little dd is. :)

Personally I don't do that (toddlers put everything in their mouth, and also to me it feels "too close")

But I can't see the harm for those who wants to do that... It is most definitely not a sexual thing.

The only person I kiss on the lips is DH. I never kissed my DSs on the lips and my parents did not kiss me on the lips. Don't mind what anyone else chooses to do with their DC though.

I kiss my girls on the lips and they're 10 + 7.
This is sexual? - What a load of bollox!
Next week we will be told that holding hands is sexual, or tickling them is foreplay.
And if your worried about germs I suggest you never touch a door handle, never press a lift button, atm machine or pedestrian crossing button unless wearing gloves at all times!

Wet sloppy kisses are the best.

Jujubeanz- same here! Not likely to jump in to bed with her any time soon either!

I can't believe people think it's wrong! I kiss my baby on his lips and I always get a massive smile/laugh afterwards!

Right, if you kiss your baby on the lips that's fine. If you don't that's also fine. This doesn't have to be a thing.

I sometimes kiss my baby on the lips. When other people do it I hate it though. I would never kiss anyone else's baby on the lips!!!

I still kiss my mum on the lips and I'm 32

I'm 29 and same here.

I also kiss my DD on the lips and will do until she no longer wants to.

Mine used to grab people by the ears and attack them with an open mouth kiss. Was pretty intense. He's 2 now and kisses me on the lips all the time but it's a proper pucker up kiss rather than open mouthed slobber.

I love kissing him!

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 10:58

splendide how dovi teach DS to pucker?? Slobber - ok. Tongue and biting - yukky slobber overload

Report
splendide · 14/02/2017 10:59

He just worked it out himself really although I did used to do it in quite an exaggerated way to him. I was pleased when the tongue risk subsided.

I didn't kiss DD on the lips when she was very small as I didn't want to introduce more germs to her but at some point I started to. Can't quite remember when but certainly by 12 months. She's almost 2 now and often gives me a kiss on the lips of her own accord which is lovely Smile I really can't see that it's something to get worked up about but I guess it's due to how you were brought up and what was normal to you.

I am not a hugely affectionate person so I would feel more comfortable giving a kiss on the head or cheek or tummy instead, but I wouldn't judge others who felt comfortable doing this as long as the child seemed happy with it. If the child doesn't like it then it's an absolute no.

Yes agree with the PPeho said they would never kiss Simone else's baby on the lips.

I would kiss nieces or nephews on the cheek or head, but for young babies unless the baby was a relative eg niece or nephew, I would avoid kissing them at all. I would never kiss a friends baby (eh baby under 1). Older kids that aren't relatives I would give a kiss on the cheek.
