How often do you check your DCs

Just interested to know how many times people check their LOs once they are in bed & how old are they?

I have DD who is 22 months & I have always been an avid checker! She is asleep by 7pm id say I check her about 3-4 times before I'm in bed for 11pm.

If I wake up randomly in the night I always do then too Smile

I never check on mine, I didn't when they were babies either.

namechangingagainagain · 13/01/2017 07:29

4 children aged 3-13. I never check and didn't know it was a "thing". They share a bedroom in pairs so assume the other one will get me if there's an issue...... Or I'll hear them myself. I didn't use baby monitor s either!(adds this to my list of parenting fails).

Never. Once they started sleeping through, I never checked on them. Just assumed that they were safe, happy, in their toasty warm bed, and didn't want to disturb them by opening door / going in.

originaldoozy · 13/01/2017 07:30

I don't check on my 2.5 year old and haven't had a monitor since it broke when he was about 1.

TeaBelle · 13/01/2017 07:31

Never but we do use a video monitor for dd (age 2) and I wake at small noises so confident I would hear most things. I do have a peek at her on the monitor if I wake but I would wake her up if I went in and she's a terrie aleeper

n0ne · 13/01/2017 07:32

DD is nearly 4. I always go in before going to bed myself to stroke her hair and whisper that I love her. DH does too.

When she was a bit younger, I'd probably check on her 3ish times. If I woke up in the night for some reason, another quick check.

Never checked on mine apart from when we are away on holiday (like to know they've fallen asleep even in a different olace). Now that dd is out of pull ups at bedtime we go in and wake her about 10.3o for a wee so I suppose we check on her and her brother but hopefully that will just he a short term thing.

Disraeli · 13/01/2017 07:41

I chck mine (4 and 1) when I'm on my way to bed, and at other times if I happen to be going past their room. Also have a monitor for each bedroom.

Kim82 · 13/01/2017 07:54

Mine are 15, 12, 9 and 2. I don't check on them at all. I have a baby monitor so I can hear the youngest on the very rare occasion she wakes but that's only because she shares a room with the 12 and 9 year old so I don't want her waking them if they have school the next day.

Leatherboundanddown · 13/01/2017 07:56

Dd5. Deep sleeper. Once on my way to bed and replace duvet if it has fallen.

cheminotte · 13/01/2017 07:59

9 yr old - rarely check after I've said goodnight unless he's been sleeping badly recently.
6 yr old - may check once about 1/2 hour after saying goodnight to check he has actually gone to sleep.

JC23 · 13/01/2017 08:00

I have an 11 year old and a 14 month old and I don't check on them.
The baby is a terrible sleeper so I creep past his room and avoid going in there at all costs.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 13/01/2017 08:06

Primary school children. I check on them before I go to bed. I love seeing their lovely sleeping faces last thing at night, it fills my heart with love. I might still check they are breathing...

MerylPeril · 13/01/2017 08:10

I check on 7 year old DD when I go to the loo and usually straighten out her duvet and remove extra clothes she sometimes puts on when going to bed.
Then I give her a kiss on way to my bed!

Joinourclub · 13/01/2017 08:14

Um, I don't check. What are you all checking for?

Scrumptiouscrumpets · 13/01/2017 08:21

I don't check DS1. He wakes a lot most nights so I get to check on him then! But even if he started suddenly sleeping through I wouldn't go in to check on him.

DS2 is in our room so no need to check. I'd go in a couple of times before I go to bed if he slept through the night, but mostly because he's gorgeous to look at, not because I'm worried about anything.

FraterculaArctica · 13/01/2017 08:28

DS is nearly 3 and I don't check on him. No point in encouraging one of his still too frequent wake ups! He usually wakes crying in the night and comes along to our room anyway.

Pluto30 · 13/01/2017 08:31

Mine are 7, 5 and 20mo.

I check on them before I go to bed, and that's it.

If it's raining, I'll go in to close the windows so that it doesn't come in, but that's about it for additional checks.

Stylingwax · 13/01/2017 08:31

There's no way I check. If they are asleep why would i risk WAKING THEM UP....

maltedmilk1 · 13/01/2017 08:32

Margot - we also have a Dracula in the coffin child here who doesn't want to miss a trick so I have to creep about on my tiptoes Grin

Most people don't seem to of broken the habit since our LOs were babies. My OH never checks even when he goes to the loo and is right near her room I often ask did you check on her and he always says no!
How can he resist looking at how peaceful she looks in her cot I can't get enough!! Smile

I like to check they are actually asleep, covers on so not cold, or that they haven't suddenly got a temperature or whatever. At the moment they both have a cough so we go in and make sure they are sleeping high on pillow as it relieves cough

SquedgieBeckenheim · 13/01/2017 08:36

When we used the monitor I never checked on DD unless she was crying. Since we stopped using the monitor I check on her once when I go to bed. On the incredibly rare occasion she sleeps later than normal I'll check on her to make sure she's still alive! That's once in a blue moon though.

bittapitta · 13/01/2017 08:36

I don't check. It never occurred to me.

They will let me know if they need us (unfortunately still once or twice a night with the youngest!).

Like someone else says, what exactly are you checking? Especially that many times a night!
