Formula feeds - silly question?

Hi there, I possibly should know this being eight months in with my second, but...

Is it ok to mix formula with cold water? I understand it's not sterile but does that matter when they aren't tiny? I've swapped to lactose-free milk and it does not come in ready made bottles so it is hard to make it up in advance with hot water.

MauiChristmas · 24/11/2016 13:38

Six months...Coca Cola at (presumably) less than six months.

I'm sorry but that his categorically the worst advice I've ever heard on MN, and I'm over this place like a rash.

Coca Cola works for some ADULTS with tummy problems, not because it's sterile, but because the neat sugar and caffeine make it a one-stop rehydration solution and pick-me-up. Adding it to baby formula belongs on Jeremy fucking Kyle.

suspiciousofgoldfish · 24/11/2016 13:48

Whenever anyone starts a formula feeding thread, I always end up more confused than I was in the first place.

Coca Cola?!

Not a doctor, Sam but a health care professional of 17 years.

My DS1 wouldn't take a bottle either. He had sippy cups of EBM when I wasn't around, or made up the difference with age-appropriate food from 6 months. He's still alive and very healthy. Without the addition of Coke.

ElphabaTheGreen · 24/11/2016 13:56

So I take it from that you're still adding Coke, it's not like you just used it to begin with then got rid?

Fuck. My. Life.

He's 6 month of course it's normal.
At what age did you start adding it to formula if you don't mind me asking? Have you started feeding solids too?

Sam has got to be shitting us surely?

Hurryboomboom · 24/11/2016 14:05

Before he just wanted to constantly nap - which isn't normal for a person.

He's a baby. Babies nap constantly. At 6 months I'd expect no more than 2 hrs awake time at the most.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 24/11/2016 14:07

oh for God's sake, now you've taken it too far and we call bullshit!

Sam is obviously joking, don't worry.

ElphabaTheGreen · 24/11/2016 14:09

Sam if you are not on a wind-up, please, please discuss this with your health visitor. It is a terrible thing to do. You may be severely over-feeding him, which could lead to a lifetime of obesity problems. Some babies are sleepy not mine which is just as crucial to development as being awake, so you may be depriving him of this important need as well. 4-5 hours worth of naps (total, not necessarily in one chunk) during the day is normal for some six month olds, in addition to 12 hours at night because it is necessary for their development. He shouldn't, for example, be awake for longer than two hours at a stretch at six months old. That's normal and healthy. You're making your baby wired, not alert.

Honestly, if I knew you in real life, I would be contacting your health visiting team on your behalf as a matter of urgency.

ElphabaTheGreen · 24/11/2016 14:11

I've cross posted with her updates and reported. Christ, I hope she's a troll.
