absolute massive meltdown in dd 4 right now - what will i do

she has lost it completely, she wanted her dodi, which she doesnt get until bed. is just home from school had her lunch and was calm, then asked for it i said no and she went beserk - so beserk i have never seen the like.
she then scrabbed me and screamed like a complete nut.
now in her room, door locked (not done at all) but time out on step staris wasnt working
the screaming is still going

Is it not worth giving her her dodi - what's the significance of her not having it till bedtime?

How long's she been going to school? I'd give her her dodi and put her to bed for an hour.

shes not tired, slept from 8.05 til 8.10 this morn not a peep.

the dodi is not allowed in the day, otherwise she sucks it all day and shes 4 and half.

shes a school 3 monrs a week for 3hrs for a year now.

go in and give her a cuddle

say you know she is feeling bad but mummy still loves her

and suggest a treat (not the dummy) to do together

friends tell me school can make them a little er, trying, at first so she may just be a bit tired

also, get rid of the dummy

Perhaps she is coming down with something...ds sometimes screams like this, i give him the dodi/dummy/gobstopper/titty/diddy!

i'd leave her to it. and tell her calmly to let you know when she will behave well enough to come downstairs

Well I would bite the bullet (not today as she is obv overwrought) and get rid of the dummy

Do something significant like "posting" it to the dummy fairy who will then give it to a new baby (cos they are for babies) and then the dummy fairy could post her something more appropriate for her age in return, what is she into?

DON'T give her the dummy - otherwise she will learn that meltdowns have the desired effect.

As long as she's not hurting herself, I'd ignore it and hope she wears herself out paddying and falls asleep. She does sound like she's tired, but 4.5 is old enough to know tantrums aren't the way to go. Must be really crappy for you hermykne, sorry

If time out on the step hasn't worked,then I don't see what is wrong with her being in her room. Although I personally would not lock her door. Let her know when she has calmed down she is welcome to join you again. Have a cuddle and do something nice together.

my friend dipped her dd's dummies in vinegar, dried them and said they tasted bad as she didn't need them anymore

or Easter Bunny/Father Christmas took them and left a present

I think she is tired from school so discipline is the last thing to go hard on imo [softarse pushover emoticon]

I would say The dodi goes in bin for ever if there are ever tantrums again about having the dodi. And also if the tantrum doesn't stop now.

am mean. but it's effective. and has the plus you can get rid of the dummy at the same time.
