Moltex - anyone else find they leak every time?

I normally use cloth, using disps only when out for a full day or more. I chose Moltex as I'd heard they were good as well as eco-friendly, but so far they have leaked from the sides every time I've used them.

Anyone else had this problem?

No,and I have used them occasionally, interspersed with cloth nappies.

Maybe you just need to do them up tighter?
An all in one over the top will hold them closer to the body.

ib · 30/01/2007 14:47

yes, dreadfully. I think it's because ds has really skinny legs.

frenchleave · 30/01/2007 15:05

That's odd, my DS has really chubby thighs! Maybe they only fit medium thighs....

Moondog - thanks for suggestions. But even when I fasten them snugly and put his closest-fitting vest/bodysuit over the top they still leak at the sides .

They are such expensive nappies too, the new ones even more so. I wouldn't mind paying extra for the eco factor but, well, I'm seriously not impressed.

I'd just stick with cloth then.
Or try another eco friendly brand.
Tushies?
Must say though that i found them horrible.

MerryMarigold · 30/01/2007 21:39

I had no probs at all with moltex and have used them since day 1 all the time (i'm not THAT env friendly!). he had chubby thighs to start with and gradually they've got skinnier - still ok, but i always did them up tightly. do you make sure his willy is tucked downwards (assuming you have a ds).

Spidermama · 30/01/2007 21:41

I find Moltex great. They're not as utterly, ridiculously, scarily leakproof as Pampers and the others, but they're still brilliant and the most bio degradable of all.

Tushies still have the nasty gell and plenty of bleach.

Nature boy/girl are also bleachy with gel and have the added irritation of very hard sharp plastic fasteners.

moondog · 30/01/2007 21:44

Merry,I never remember the willy thing and consequently ds's pyjamas are soaked in the front nearly every night.

I also managed to leave the family jewels dangling out of the side of his undies today.
Worst still,I ignored his protests for about 10 minutes thinking he was moaning over nothing.

i still can't get used to the fact i have a boy.

I've never heard of those loopsy. Where do you get them from?

Thanks.

MerryMarigold · 30/01/2007 21:54

yeah spiritofnature.co.uk do bambo, but i didn't like them as much as moltex. only used 1 pack when he was newborn though, so not sure about the older ones.

Jennster · 30/01/2007 22:19

Tushies aren't great but they are the only nappy WITHOUT gel. They were too stiff. Use Moltex at night only and find them good. When they started leaking went to the next size up. Will start to use cloth at night too soon.....

We use Moltex, really like them, and use boots baby dry at night (sorry!)as ds gets very wet. Are bambos cheaper? Might try them then, do they have a starch inner like Moltex?

frenchleave · 31/01/2007 11:36

Glad they work for some!

Merry/moondog - I never remember the willy tucking thing either, my my DH does and they leak even when he's done it right.

Aviatrix - I've tried 2 sizes as he is on the weight limit between the two, and even that made no difference. I'm thinking they are just not elasticated enough to give a snug fit.

I'm sticking with cloth for every day, but we're going away for a week soon (hotel, no laundry facilities) so must take disposables. Looks like I'll have to ignore my whispering eco conscience temporarily and buy some Pampers

I bought some of the nature child (I think) ones in Sainsburys the other day, not as eco as moltex etc, but unbleached and 70% natural materials (?), so maybe not as bad as pampers etc? Anyway, quite impressed with these, might be a good compromise for your hols? Also, £5 for a pack, can't complain!

bobsmum · 31/01/2007 13:46

Moltex have recently changed their design and reduced the amount of elastication to make them more green. I supsect that'll just make them leak.

I've got some of the Bambo Nature ones and they're ok - manage nighttime fine, but would need changing straight away if there was anything other than a "proper" poo IYSWIM

Bambo have won various eco awards and seem to be pretty eco concsious I think.

I found Moltex leaked too. But then so did boots own brand on DS1, I think different nappies suit different babies.
Also, if you only use a few disposables, stop beating your self up about using a few pampers or huggies, after all, loopsy is using eco friendly nappies .... that have been shipped from scandinavia.... all those nappy miles... Pampers have a plant in manchester...

imnot27 · 31/01/2007 14:40

That's a very good point flibberty, I hadn't even thought about nappy miles... Where are Moltex from?

frenchleave · 31/01/2007 15:48

Loopymumsy - no the problem isn't at night, DS is in cloth 24 hours apart from when we're out for a full day or more. They only leak at night if I don't put the wrap on properly, but that's my fault.

You're quite right flibberty, I'll just write Moltex off as not suitable for DS and use other disps when I have to.

Anybody interested in a near complete pack of Moltex...?

OP posts:
bobsmum · 31/01/2007 15:52

Ah yes but I'm not convinced about Pampers' manufacturing processes. I'd rather risk the nappy miles on an ethically produced product and build up demand for something manufactured with a conscience.

Jennster · 31/01/2007 21:39

kyte I used nature boy and girl when dd was newborn (after I had used up all the free samples) Don't think they were any worse than the non eco ones at exploding poo that reaches the neck.
