8 year olds

I have a few questions regarding 8 year olds I'm hoping someone can help me with. My son (8) spends time at his dads and they have teenage sons living there and my ds seems to think he's now 18 and not 8.

My questions are:

Do 8 year olds still wear pyjamas?
Do 8 year olds get to stay up to watch Big Brother?
Do 8 year olds talk on msn to their friends?

I'm sure I'll think of some more later.

Not all answers relate to my 7 (nearly 8) year old.

  1. PJ's Yes
  2. No TV after 9pm. BB before 9pm not for last few weeks when Jade went crazy.
  3. msn : Mine no, but some of my frinds with 8 yr olds yes.
Glassofwine · 28/01/2007 22:57

Ok, I have a 7 1/2 year old - does that count?

  1. - yes to pj's
  2. - no, has seen it once or twice when woken from a bad dream, had to turn it off as language bad.
  3. - wouldn't know what msn was, emails, but only grandparents and me to tell me that she loved me!

However, she is the oldest in this house, not the youngest. Ask me again in 4 years time when ds is 8

ditto ds (8 in four months) objects greatly to being forced to watch grown up TV anyway (one of his complaints about our current nanny). I don't think he'd like msn because of the reading, but it's not something I've even thought about suggesting - who would he message anyway? He's not very keen on jammies at the moment so he quite often wears one of my old t-shirts (although not when anyone outside of the immediate family can see him )

My only just 9 year old doesn't wear pj's, he gets very hot & sweaty at night.
Only sees a bit of BB, in the morning if his 12year old sister is watching the edited highlights or lowlifes as we call it.

Bumblelion · 29/01/2007 11:53

My DS is nearly 10 but thinking back to when he was 8 (same answer as now).

Do 8 year olds still wear pyjamas? NO
Do 8 year olds get to stay up to watch Big Brother? NO
Do 8 year olds talk on msn to their friends? NO

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 29/01/2007 12:01

Yes my eight year old wears pyjamas (or occasionally a nighty). What would be the alternative then? Is wearing pjs something a person growns out of?? Because I haven't..!

Big Brother, no, wouldn't let her stay up to specifically watch it.. but she might catch a bit if she happened to be up at 9pm, at the weekend maybe. But she has usually been asleep an hour by then.

MSN, she has used it in my presence talking to RL friends or family, but we don't have it anymore so no.

admylin · 29/01/2007 12:16

My ds is 8, he hates pyjamas always has done but I can get him to put them on 50 % of the time.
Thank goodness we're in germany so Big Brother free zone!
No to MSN. When in the UK last time I was amazed to see loads of 9 year olds had their own website or page on the internet, and when my niece wanted to do one (including uploading photos) her mother read the rules and you had to be 12 or 13 so she wouldn't let her but all her friends had one already, they were all chatting in MSN too

Fimbo · 29/01/2007 12:31

My dd is 8.5

YES to pj's
NO to Big Brother
Did used to MSN friends, but it was getting out of hand, with other children constantly phoning her to go on it, so have removed it from the computer.

MejustMe · 29/01/2007 12:43

ok here goes....puts bullet proofs on now lol

my ds wears pjs when he feels like it,
watches BB and loves it.....
and he has free internet access which i find great as he has just got in touch (with my help) with his fathers brother and wife so he can now have a paternal family member to relate to.

serenity · 29/01/2007 13:00

DS1 (9 in a few weeks)

PJs - yes, now he has some that fit. If not then t-shirt and boxers

BB - not at night (8pm bedtime) but has seen enough of it at weekends that it's his ambition (definitely not enocouraged by me or DH I must add!)

MSN - we don't have it
