am I being a weird mum?

Ok - is this a strange reaction. Ds1 is 6yr old, and today I find out that the little brother of his best friend at school has been up all night vomiting. I've been thinking that I will keep him off school tomorrow just in case the best friend goes down with it, and passes it on to my ds before the weekend. Am I a control freak or is this actually quite sensible? Thought we could just have a nice day at home...

No,it's weirdy behaviour.

multitasker · 18/01/2007 21:12

Get - a - grip. Just read what you have posted and that should answer your question.

WideWebWitch · 18/01/2007 21:12

You're a control freak, he hasn't got it yet and may never get it!

nope. not allowed. going to have to brave the awful weather like the rest of em!

bleakhouse · 18/01/2007 21:13

Ok ...kind of know this, but dad was alcoholic throughout my childhood, being sick all night, etc, thought of sick still makes me scared now, just about control it, but is no one else sick phobic, for other reasons?

Only (possibly)if tou're doing something really really vital at the weekend - even then it would be a bit OTT

MissGolightly · 18/01/2007 21:15

Yes, it is weird. Repeat after me: By sending my son to school tomorrow I am allowing him to build up a healthy immune system. And learn to read. And have friends. Etc.

SickJealousandWorried · 18/01/2007 21:15

Mad I am afraid

controlfreaky2 · 18/01/2007 21:17

... as a snake

bleakhouse · 18/01/2007 21:20

You're all actually making me like myself more... who wants to be normal? Anyway he can already read. I take it you all came from non-alcoholic homes, with no terrifying drunk and disorderlies to cope with.

bleakhouse, now you have explained the reason you feel strongly about this it does make more sense as to why you dont want your son to be sick.

However, Im sure you agree that it is best for him to come into contact with germs and illness ,and also for him not to pick up on any phobias you have.

sorry to hear about your own childhood experiences.

I think you need to separate out the different things; your history, your emetophobia, and your son. There are several threads on MN about vomit phobia, and others about alcoholic parents.

But do send him to school.

bleakhouse · 18/01/2007 21:27

I actually don't act like a freak around him, probably do all the things you all do . like stroke his back, catch it in my hand, and 'neve'r mind, you're all right now' etc. But I still think in my head at a million miles an hour when I see the sick bug on the horizon,'How can I escape this?'

OP posts:
pointydog · 18/01/2007 21:31

"catch it in my hand"

Now I'm not sick phobic, but I never never NEVER do that!!

pointydog · 18/01/2007 21:32

I think you know yourself, bleak - it's ok to have a hang up like this but you've got to make yourself not over-react to it. You should only keep him off school if he is sick.

pointydog · 18/01/2007 21:33

I still can't believe you catch it in your hand

Are you really attached to your soft furnishings?
