Hi, like all of you I'm sure I have been having trouble finding the time to get on Mumsnet. Hope everything is going well for you all. I love being a mum!
I thought we needed to have a post to discuss stuff as Feb, April and May have them but not us.
DD was born 29 March and is a real character showing lots of personality. Hopefully I won't be alone for long.

hiya chuffed
good idea to start our own thread - I've been posting on feb for a while when I had the energy and free time (not all that often!)
ds was born 4th march and is very smiley and cute at last after 2 months of solid screaming and non sleeping
then he found his thumb and bliss followed
we're all setttling down now and I can take him out and about to mum and toddler groups with ds1 who loves him to bits and giggles whenever he sees him in the mornings
right now though I'm trying to get ds1 out of his cot so ds2 can move in - the moses basket looks very cramped
it took a while but now I think he's the best baby going
where are you other feb mums?

Chuffed · 01/06/2004 13:24

Believe it or not we just had our worst nights sleep. DD had her first jab on Tuesday and 2 wake ups on Tuesday night but last night she woke up 3 times. She has never done this, not even from birth. She has only woken up twice. Do you think this is related to her jab or is she having a not talked about growth spurt.

OP posts:
californiagirl · 01/06/2004 23:12

I've been hiding in Feb. too. DD was dozy after her jabs, except for a brief incosolable period in the afternoon. But I think we have been having a growth spurt - she seems to do all eating for a while and then all sleeping and we had 9 hours last night after a day where she napped most of the day. Last week I thought she was going the wrong direction as we had several nights where her longest stretch was 5 hours, very unusual for her.

She's not quite out of all of her 0-3 month clothes but close (12 weeks today). And yesterday she rolled from front to back. Just the once, though.

Still on the short sleeps, it is really wierd, I was wondering about growth spurts too. The other thing is that she has just started seriously drooling, I can see where the teeth are going to come through but nothing has come yet. She doesn't seem to want to chew on anything though...she couldn't really be teething at 9 weeks could she? It might explain the short sleeps all night and day too.
On a good night we just spent 5 days away with a drive from London to Edinburgh and back and she was soooo good while we were away.

DD was horribly fretty on Sunday, I was looking to see if she was teething and DH said she was too little. But yesterday evening as she was drooling and gnawing on everything that came to hand, DH was starting to think the teething theory was looking good.

Her new trick, just started last night, is to wake up to nurse and be "talky" instead of crying.

mummytosteven · 07/06/2004 20:09

Hi there, I'm a bit new to mumsnet, and didn't really post on the pregnant March 2004 thread, and hope you don't mind me butting in on this one!

DS Steven was born on 8th March 2004 and is also a bit characterful - you definitely know what he doesn't like (which strongly includes baths atm!!). He's got his second jabs tomorrow -he was OK for his first ones so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these wil be OK. Chuffed - was DD hungry when she woke up? California girl - i've heard that drooling can also be a sign of being ready for solids. Can't say I've read it anywhere, it was a friend who told me so it could be complete cobblers!

californiagirl · 08/06/2004 17:56

I didn't post at all on the March 2004 pregnancy thread as I was due in February! (Morocco and I have March 4 babies)

I don't think she's ready for solids; Friday night she grabbed a piece of bread out of DH's hand (lucky move, she's not 100% on grabbing things yet) but immediately decided it was boring. She does not show any interest in our food, despite being held while we eat quite often

mummytosteven · 08/06/2004 18:28

Oh well, sounds like the teething theory is the most plausible then - any sign of any teeth in her mouth yet?. Steven missed his jabs this morning :-( -tried to get out of the door once, he was sick, got him cleaned up, phoned docs to say would be a bit late, then turned round to pick bags up to go out, and he was sick again! I just gave up, and rescheduled for two weeks time. HV said that should be fine, but he has to have them in a fortnight.

Chuffed · 09/06/2004 00:05

dd only cries when she is hungry or nappy change needed, no other time (except in the middle of the jab). If she wakes up and isn't hungry she lies there and chatters to herself before going back to sleep or waiting for one of us to wake up. Not looking forward to bf with teeth.
Topped up with 50ml of formula last night before bed and she slept for 6 hours so think that might be the solution.

mummytosteven · 09/06/2004 20:57

Chuffed - any chance we can swop babies :-) - no ds is an angel except when I do something really unreasonable like pull a tshirt over his head or give him a bath! He rarely seems to be bothered by dirty nappies. Glad to see your daughter seems to have got over her jabs.

californiagirl · 09/06/2004 22:42

DD is mostly not a big crier, and in general is OK about T-shirts. But she has her days. And she has, as far as I can tell, only one cry, which comes in levels of unhappiness, but not in, say, tired vs. hungry vs. bored. Sometimes it's even hard to tell "Making noise for fun" from "I'm starting to get ticked". She doesn't appear to care at all whether her nappy's full.

No sign of teeth, although everybody who sees her gnawing on things or hears her crying miserably when she goes through her fussy periods asks about them.

Chuffed · 10/06/2004 15:22

oh dd LOVES the bath and doesn't like getting out. Is OK for dressing, really easy going except she just never keeps still. Is always moving and turns herself in circles on the mat. She is also starting to get frustrated when she is trying to turn over and can't quite get there. I get a couple of wingy noises at that point but not crying.

morocco · 11/06/2004 02:22

hello again
seems we're all starting to get into the swing of things - ds2 is such a little sweetheart and I'm totally smitten now. he's also drooling and gnawing constantly but not a sign of teeth - it's so bad i'm going to have to put a bib on him as otherwise it's about 5 changes of t shirt a day
he also loves his playmat and kicks there for ages wriggling his way around, he also loves being pulled to sitting and then standing - huge grin on face, very steady on feet and excellent head control - but I got a bit narked at baby group when everyone told me off and said he was too young. he is very young I think for such antics but his brother was the same and walked at 10 months so I think it must just be genetic, anyhow, he doesn't do much supported standing just in case it really is bad for him, but what do you guys think?
he's waiting for his second lot of jabs but I'm in no real hurry - get round to it sooner or later I guess - hv sounds a bit keen mummytosteven! probably on some kind of performance pay and needs 90% of clients jabbed or something
the hot weather has really kicked in here and I'm constantly breastfeeding again - seriously thinking about supplementing with a bit of water but I'd like to wait til he's a bit older and preferably on solids really (hopefully that will be at 6 months)
love to all
anyone heard from other march mums and babies from the pregnancy thread?

californiagirl · 11/06/2004 19:07

Everything I've seen, plus what my Dr. told me (when she held DD up to see if she'd put weight on her feet at 2 months) says you can hold them up to try to stand just as much as the 2 of you like. DD is desperate to sit up, but only tries standing for a few seconds at a time (which the Dr. thought was great)

Her sleeping is going backwards, though. Tell me it's just a growth spurt and my 6-7 hour baby will be back soon!

Chuffed · 12/06/2004 22:00

DD sometimes winges to be held up in a standing position as I think she gets sick of lying down. DD is always wiggling around and isn't it neat having the weather heating up now as I left dd this morning on a 'change mat' on the floor with nothing on just wiggling around.
DH and I are completely smitten with dd and I think a lot of our friends are surprised at how much we love being parents, I think they thought we'd be complaining about this and that and wouldn't be able to do anything with anybody. We are pretty much the first to venture into this territory.

OP posts:
californiagirl · 14/06/2004 18:59

OK, the moppet is definitely teething. You can see where both her bottom front teeth are about to come through, the right one first. Bizarrely, she's sleeping just fine again, 6-7 hours in the first stretch. She was whimpering in her sleep last night, but she didn't wake up (I realized eventually that most of the night when she whimpered, I half-woke, and made soothing gestures and murmurs -- to my husband, who was sound asleep)

morocco · 23/06/2004 03:54

hello again
how are the teeth coming along californiagirl? ds is still grawing away but no signs of anything really but all that dribble cools him down anyhow
he can roll over from tummy to back and finds that hilarious, but can't go the other way round again, once he can I think he'll be off and rolling round the room!!
sleeping well - usually ds wakes us up more at night - c'est la vie
and has had 2 jabs now - one more to go
how about you guys?

Chuffed · 23/06/2004 20:56

DD doesn't seem to be teething yet although she is drooling ALOT. She isn't rolling but crab crawls on her back all over the place, I leave her on her rug and turn around and she is half way across the living room.
Am too scared of not waking her for the dream feed so she is doing the 7ish till 11ish then sleeps till 5am.
Can't believe how much she is growing though...she is 61cm long already.

OP posts:
Kif · 23/06/2004 22:47

I'm another newbie to mumsnet. Dd arrived 24 March - is it OK if I join in here? My little 'un also leaving puddles of drool everywhere!

californiagirl · 24/06/2004 05:41

Both DD's bottom front teeth are through now. The day after the teeth started to cut, she learned to roll back to front (she occasionally rolls front to back, but she's not at all reliable at it). As she had been doing the once-in-a-blue-moon thing rolling front to back, when she first did back to front I was hoping she'd do it again when DH could see. Then she did it basically continuously for 2 days, howling when she got herself stuck on her tummy. He flipped her over 10 times one morning before leaving for work! And she only rolls leftwards.

They came through really fast at first, but are moving more slowly now. And I think there may be some more coming, the way she's been gnawing on things.

It's been hot here, so we've been playing with a sippy cup. She can get water out of it, and she even swallows some of it, now that she's played with every possible way of spitting it out. However, she does not consider this a satisfactory way of dealing with thirst.

morocco · 29/06/2004 01:54

hi kif and welcome
good grief californiagirl - how many teeth has she got already??? are you still breastfeeding - hope she's not nipping
ds is still drool monster and unreliably rolling back to front and front to back every once in a while. when on his front he can also kind of arch his back and shuffle forwards - looks a bit painful to me but he seems happy his new form of transport
really annoyingly and bizarrely he's started wanting his night feed to be done standing up and walking around - I'm breastfeeding so this is not a habit I'd like to keep up for long as he's now 6kg and my arms don't fancy much more weight on them
he loves grabbing toys and trying to eat them
and he onnly sleeps for max 45 mins - are your babies like this too?

Chuffed · 29/06/2004 18:11

Welcome Kif.
As well as the drooling, dd is starting to make chomping, kissing noises as well as stratching madly at her ears so my guess is that a tooth will come through soon.
No rolling over yet, and yes Morocco I'm sure dd doesn't sleep more than 45mins at a time during the day. She fights sleep like anything.
What were you meaning by the night feed, the 11pm or the 7ish. I've given up the dream feed as I prefer waking up once in the night transferring dd to the bed from the cot to feed for 10mins and then back, rather than trying to stay up till 11 then not getting myself to sleep until midnight.
Off for the second set of jabs tomorrow.

OP posts:
morocco · 02/07/2004 02:51

hiya chuffed - yes, the 7pm ish feed - know exactly what you mean about not being bothered staying up til 11 to do a dream feed - I'm far too knackered by then
I'm glad to hear someone else's baby hasn't heard of these 2 hour naps I keep reading about (sorry for us though chuffed - be kind of nice to have that much of a rest)
can you believe ds is finally moving into his cot and out of the moses basket which is now ridiculously too small for the poor mite - how lazy we've been not to put it up earlier
anyone else get a little pang when the 'pregnant due in march' thread started up?

mummytosteven · 02/07/2004 02:56

Can't believe all these teething babies. Finally transferred DS from the moses basket to the cot and grobag this week. He's taken to it like a duck to water so been out buying lots of toys to jolly the cot up . DS goes through phases - long nights sleep, 20 minute sleeps if that during day - but finally he knackered himself today after 7 hours sleep last night and had a 3 hour nap this afternoon

morocco · 02/07/2004 03:24

great news about the sleep mummytosteven
gosh - so sorry everyone - I'm knackered and not thinking straight - reread my post and didn't mean you guys were lazy if your little ones are still in a moses basket - its just me and dh have been talking about putting it up for about 3 weeks now and ds has started banging his head on the top of it and also pulled the material round the edges over his head last night - guilt guilt - so that's why we have been lazy
