Just happened to drive past school and stopped to watch kids at playtime. All running about having fun. Spotted ds with his friends playing some sort of follow my leader game- cheeks flushed, totally engrossed, happy in his group, full of energy. Felt a bit soppy.
Off to eat razors now...

Um, haven't had one yet today - but was welling up at Church nativity play yesterday. In between weeping with laughter at DS2 who was meant to be a wise man, but looked more like a pantomime dame!

Smithagain · 18/12/2006 14:44

Going to collect my little ones from their childminder, to find the 16mo happily snoozing in her arms. I just love that sleeping baby look. And it's lovely to know how fond they are of her (she is also their Godmother and a family friend).

Not today but had one of those moments a few days ago when dd was talking to Santa Claus for the first time. I cried! Just seeing her delighted expression was very emotional

Brushing my 3-year-old's beautiful, long hair w/a Mason Pearson brush till it gleamed and all the goldy streaks shined.

hulababy · 18/12/2006 15:05

Just been sat watching DD engrossed in making boomarks as Christmas presents for her grandparents. She was so fixe don what she was doing, using bits of my craft stash, checking what she had, where it had to go, what she was to do next. She seemed so grown up!

happystory · 18/12/2006 15:05

I didn't expect to feel sad and soppy about this but think my dd (11) is very near to starting her periods and it makes me so It seems so young to have all that pallaver and almost seems to be the end of her childhood. I'd already been feeling a bit blue about Christmas as they (ds is 15)just dont get so excited about Christmassy things now.
I need to borrow a toddler for Christmas!

Chandra · 18/12/2006 15:07

They brought Santa to DS's new school and every child got a present, on getting into the car I asked if he had liked seeing Santa and... he put the sadest face possible on a three year old and said "he didn't bring me a scooter"

I have spent a few minutes explaining to him that big orders are home delivered

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 18/12/2006 15:08

Christmas sing-song at my 4yo's preschool - he had on a Santa hat and beard, looked so solemn singing the songs (which were delightful, really kiddie stuff about Christmas puddings and Christmas stars and suchlike), all the children looked so sweet. I had 2yo ds2 with me and he toddled over and sat in ds1's lap, they hugged each other all through the singing and ds1 found a Santa hat and put it on ds2. Then the teacher singled ds1 out to come to the front and help tell the Christmas story, he was so excited he was hopping and hyperventilating, and saying things really fast, like "The angels came and said 'Aah, don't be afraid Mary, because your baby what will get born, that will be the best baby, the most important baby EVER"... it was so adorable

jeangenie · 18/12/2006 15:19

the smile on my DD1s serious little face when she finally spotted me in the audience at the school play this morning. I was in tears.
Oh and how hard she tried with all the arm movements to go along with the songs. And how out of step she and her little friend were but how much they enjoyed it.

Very soppy day today indeed

steffy1 · 18/12/2006 16:04

i had to drop my ds1 off for a taster day at his primary school, he stats in january.

off he ran in to the room, and off i cried all the way up the road. actual tears! i dont want him to grow up

merrylissiemas · 18/12/2006 16:27

ds stamps 1 foot and turns round and round when he's dancing. always makes me want to cry

Miaou · 18/12/2006 16:33

I walked up to the church this morning to watch the children doing their Christmas service, and happened to fall in about twenty yards behind the school walking crocodile fashion up to the church. And who was at the back but dd2, holding hands with the headteacher (a bloke) and chatting away to him ... bless

She also stood up in front of everyone to read the first part of the Christmas story and she did it so well - I was very proud !!

climbingrosie · 18/12/2006 17:08

My DS is sick at the moment and has been for the past week. After giving him his inhalers and various medicines this morning he stroked my cheek and said "you're so lovely mummy, thank you for being my mummy". Melted my heart and made me well up. He's only three.

merrylissiemas · 18/12/2006 17:13

blimey, i'm almost in tears here. how did we all get so lucky

moonshine · 18/12/2006 17:20

Ds,2, threw his podgy little arms round my neck and said 'I want to give you a kiss my little brilliant mummy'. Sniff, sniff.

robinpud · 18/12/2006 17:26

When I picked ds up from school his teacher told me proudly that in front of the whole school in assembly he stood up and talked about his football trophy. It's ahuge acheievemnt for him.. only last week he was the only child in the school not dressed up and performing. They have worked so hard to improve his confidence. his teacher was nealry as please as me!

Dd has just learnt to sing "we wish you a merry kissmas" over and over

SNOWMANdymoo · 18/12/2006 22:14

DD as a golden star in her first nativity play at pre-school. She had her thumb in her mouth all the way through but she went up on stage and did what was asked - which is a big step forward! I am so very proud of her

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 18/12/2006 22:15

These are lovely, this thread is making me feel really Christmassy

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 18/12/2006 22:22

Ooh, you're all cheering me up!

I'm pregnant, and now am even more impatient to have all these lovely moments with my little boy. [sniff].

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 18/12/2006 22:26

My 4yo DS2 has, for the second time, asked me if we can have a baby, pleeeaase, as his little sister is not a baby anymore. And you're not too old mummy, your hair is brown (he's too short to see my grey roots peepeing through LOL).

morningpaper · 18/12/2006 22:30

Singalong at nursery

50 3-4 year olds singing Away in a Manger

I had to look away, was about to blub

morningpaper · 18/12/2006 22:34

And I whispered to dd in bed tonight "I'm sorry I've been crabby today, I really think you're so fantastic."
And she whispered "And I really think you're very good at making mince pies."
And I whispered "I love you so so so much."
And she whispered "I love you to the moon and to Africa and back."

aw

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 18/12/2006 22:35

Watching ds1 and ds2 absolutely gripped to 'The Polar Express' - the end where they see Santa - they were gripped, it's so real to them and it takes me back to how magical christmas is when you are small. They are so lucky to have that now and I'm lucky to be able to do it all again through them.

It made me quite tearful as they gasped in wonder at FC on the DVD - they loved it.

roisin · 18/12/2006 22:35

DS2 is now big grown-up 7-yr-old ... but today he's poorly. Ear infections, dreadful chesty cough, sore throat etc.

I just want to sit and cuddle him, and not do anything.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow, but stay home with him. But dh has arranged to take time off/work from home, so I have to go in.

(damn these long winter terms that leave them so utterly exhausted that they succumb so suddenly and so completely to any bug that comes around. He was fine on Saturday.)
