First time mum with MS, just wondering if there are any others online. Have only met older folks with MS.

Hello... I was diagnosed three years ago and was about to start DMDs when I discovered I was pregnant. Had a great pregnancy with only a very minor relapse and have coped well since then. Still breastfeeding my two-year-old DD, which I love, but relapsed when my period returned three months ago.

I very, very much want another child and am 35, so don't want to hang around. Of course we're trying for another, but my periods are still erratic. Terrified the neurologists will tell me to start DMDs. Has anyone else been in this situation?

Hello Elpis, I'm in a similar situation to you. Diagnosed 6 years ago. Have a little boy of 2.8. Am 34 and am now actively TTC no. 2. I also have very irregular periods, but I'm not Bfing anymore - DS self-weaned at 22 months. I loved it too, felt like something my body could do right! Think my odd cycle might be due to an underactive thyroid (seem to do well with autoimmune conditions!). But medicated now and sorting itself out. I too dread having a significant relapse and having to face taking DMDs for the first time. My neuros are very nice in saying that its up to me and so far I've been well enough, but if I end up taking them now I know that's it as far as having children goes. Crap ain't it?! Fingers crossed for both of us.

I know exactly what you mean about your body doing something right. And of course you can breastfeed lying down, which has sometimes been a great advantage...

I am sure I will be told to start meds soon, as I've been relapsing on and off since February (I had an attack of vertigo on the very first day I ovulated after having DD). The question, I suppose, is whether they suggest Tysbari or interferon. I understand fingolimod (new oral drug, twice as effective as standard DMDs) is going to be approved by Nice soon, but there's not enough data yet about its safety during breastfeeding, let alone pregnancy.

But I saw a big study recently that suggested interferon had no impact on pregnancy or birth outcomes, so you might consider taking it if you need to. I'll find the link and post it later.

In the meantime, good luck with ttc and I hope the symptoms are lying low.
