GUILTY of buying almost all of this for my no1 son. Nappy bin was the biggest waste of money and space - and just horrible to empty. Why would you want a big bucket of poop lurking in the corner of the room?

Haha! I agree with almost everything on the list. I found the baby bath useful though and my 2 year old still baths in it sometimes!

I'm expecting dc2 and have bought a Moses basket this time despite not buying one the first time! I'm worried now!

I actually found my moses basket to be really useful - ds slept in it for months and it was so handy to be able to take him to sleep in when out visiting, or around the house. Not a bad buy!

I love my nappy bin! Lived in a flat with DD1 and no way was I taking her out to bin store to bin nappy each time I changed her! Still using it in new house with Dd2 but can't work out whether to have it upstairs or downstairs.
YY to fiddly outfits or any clothes that aren't sleepsuits for 1st 3-4 months.

Ds (who I would say was larger than average) stayed in his Moses basket until he was about 6months. Just get a big one. I liked it because I could move it from room to room.

DD was bathed in the baby bath until she had to sit up in it at 9months because it was easier in my back than washing her in the proper bath. Didn't use it with ds as he just went in with dd.

I agree with all of those except the Moses basket (good for downstairs naps), pram suit and baby bath.

We used a moses basket with both DSs. And I used a nappy bin, but that was for cloth nappies.

We used our moses basket and baby bath. Everyone on mn seems to really have it in for baby baths. Having one means you don't have to fill the whole bath everynight or dink your baby's head on taps and they cost about £7!

Baby wipe warmers?? Now I've heard it all!

Ha! It all depends on the baby I suppose. Neither of my DDs used a cot, so that was a waste of money - but I couldn't have predicted that! They refused the moses basket too.
I did use a baby bath thermometer, but only to check the temperature of the birthing pool (home birth).

I have loved:
Changing station - saves your back - I am a martyr to my back.
Over tub baby bath - ditto (and the newborn support to go in the normal bath was OK too)
Matching knickers (but DD was a baby last summer and it was very hot and we used disposables at first and I'm normally a pretty-nappy person)

(PS I was given a Moses basket for DS which we used a lot but for DD we got a crib instead - I was so pleased as she stayed in it till 6 months and we then put her in DS' room. A cot wouldn't fit in our room)

Moses basket I have found useful especially for DD who is 5months and just moved into her cot upstairs, but still has a Moses basket (on stand) for downstairs naps - (yes we had two baskets and stands for DD (DC2) one on top floor and one on bottom floor (3storeys), as the pregnancy with her has left me crippled and it was the only way I could put her down or pick her up by myself for weeks).

I used our baby bath! Used it for months till DD started kicking off the bottom and hitting her head. Much better than bending over the normal bath.
Loved the changing station as saved my back. Only just starting to change her on the floor now at 1 as she tried to nosedive off it this morning!

your keys, tv controls & batteries, tissues and wipes, the hoover lead, corkscrew and hammer if left within reach for a split second, content of their nappies, phones, shoelaces, candles...basically everything and anything they shouldn't

Another vote for Moses Baskets. What would they sleep in when they're tiny otherwise? Though my oldest was so enormous we had to borrow a crib for him when he was about two days old and he grew out of his Moses basket. The cot wouldn't fit in our room.

I love my changing unit, really saves my back and has loads of storage for nappies, wipes vests and pyjamas.

My changing table was essential for me. Stitches after birth. Ouch getting up off the floor with a baby in my arms. Change station was so useful, used it for every nappy change for years.

I agree with a lot of this list!

However, our changing table has been fabulous! Nappies, creams, clothes, some toys etc.

I couldn't imagine changing LO on the floor each time at home, not against it when out & about.
We do live in a flat though!

I love my nappy bin. Still going strong 9 years later. Mind you it lives in a downstairs bathroom under the changing table. Don't think I'd like it in the bedroom.

I suppose it comes down to personal preference.

I used our baby bath a lot....with both of my kids. ours turned into a sit up bath seat which was helpful as well.

personally a change pad on a bureau or change table is nice and most pleasant on your back.

I had most of those for dd1 and hardly used.

however dd2 I don't think I bought any of them except the baby bath. instead of a moses basket she slept in the pram carrycot which was suitable for overnight sleeping. handy as I could wheel her around rock with feet while I dozed on the sofa if she wouldn't settle at 3am!
